This is your brain on Fortnight

Videogames can aggravate pre-existing personality traits and/or bad parenting, but I think that's where it ends. If someone can't differentiate between violence in games and violence in reality, that's not the game's problem.

Personally I always viewed videogames as a valuable learning tool, especially at a young age. Playing Pokémon helped me learn English and by the 4th grade I was pretty fluent. My understanding of English was practically zero before I got my first videogame but a game like Pokémon made it easy enough to infer meanings from the context.
The younger you are, the better you can learn a new language. Videogames are an excellent option to engage young children in learning new things.

played video games a lot growing up i give a lot of credit to Gran Turismo in my ability to drive my car :lol. As a kid i never realized how much of a driving sim that game was. But then when you end up in a car on a dirt road and it handles just like it did in the game you are like wow...shouts out to the gran turismo team. Also cool to see how a rear wheel drive car handled vs a mid engine 4 wheel drive vs a front wheel drive.

Still remember when parents were up in arms when the OG Mortal Kombat dropped

During the U.S. Congressional hearing on video game violence, Democratic Party Senator Herb Kohl, working with Senator Joe Lieberman, attempted to illustrate why government regulation of video games was needed by showing clips from 1992's Mortal Kombat and Night Trap (another game featuring digitized actors). Brought in as an expert, Professor Eugene F. Provenzo commented that such games "have almost TV-quality graphics [but] are overwhelmingly violent, sexist and racist."

In 1997, thirteen-year-old Noah Wilson was killed by Yancy Salazar, also thirteen. Salazar stabbed Wilson in the chest with a kitchen knife and severed his aorta, leaving Wilson to die after an hour of massive blood loss. The victim's mother, Andrea Wilson, alleged that her son was killed due to Salazar's strong interest in Mortal Kombat. She claimed that Salazar was so "obsessed" with the game that he thought he was actually the Mortal Kombat character Cyrax, who she claimed used a Fatality in which he grabs the opponent in a headlock and stabs his opponent in the chest. In fact, this Fatality did not exist and was never performed by the character Cyrax

The video game industry did lose its mind with the blood and violence after MK came out. I remember there being some ridiculously over the top bloody/violent games in the arcade. Remember Time Killers?

As a kid your days are long

I would go play outside, play with my Star Wars or gi Joe or transformers, read goosebumps books and play Sega genesis or PlayStation 1. I know I put thousands of hours into both of those consoles. But I still had plenty time n put mad hours into doing the other things mentioned.

Kids now on the tablet or their phone and just on the game I’m not saying anything bad about but kid days are long and they could benefit from doing something else like we did, plus still have time to play Fortnite for thousands of hours.

Rage 2 is a good fill in for quick action
Not a fan of the Rage series but Doom (same developers) is a masterpiece of fast paced and brutal action. Really looking forward to the upcoming sequel.

I was a huge fan of the old Doom games when I was little.

Favorite game and Ace Combat.

I’d NEVER fight for this country but man, dropping bombs and doing somersaults in Ace Combat had me feeling like a Blue Angel

Lol like it was yesterday.

Idiot parents don’t want to accept they made idiot children. Games this and that...... who the hell bought it for then to begin with????

If you’re a functioning human you’ll be aight. If a video game can greatly effect your life and ability to make sound choices you have a bigger problem.

It's so easy and convenient for parents and politicians to blame hip-hop, Marilyn Manson and video games for society's ills that were created long before any of the aforementioned.

Outside problems solved by outside solutions aka perception pills when little billy doesn’t listen to mommy and daddy
