hello, this is a letter to all "og jordan heads" who thinks hypebeast when they see a kid in a pair of retro jordans. Kids today do not have a MJ to look up to. All there is, is Kobe and Lebron. Kobe and Lebron are great players but they cannot compare to his abilities on the court or his sneakers. A lot of people believe that kids wear j's because Wale or other rappers or famous people wear them. Me personally I wear jordans because when i wear them for basketball or just for casual wear I feel proud to be rocking the greatest shoes of all time. The reason a lot of u guys wear j's is because u grew up watching him and wanted to be him. Or because u wanted them real bad as a kid but could not afford them but u can now. These shoes are nostalgic to u. Because of the recent hype releases and now the 4 hour line every release u guys are blaming kids who want the shoes but have zero knowledge of the shoe. There is alot of kids like this out there. U feel like they are stealing ur hobby. The point of this letter was to make u realize that not all kids are hypebeasts. There are a lot of kids who r real sneakerheads like me...

welcome here. I believe you are on point as to why the older people like myself who is 31 buy jordans. I remember when I got my first pair of concord 11s back in 00. I was so excited because when they released in 95 I didnt have a chance or the funds to get them.
I am also sort of excited to get the retro oly 6 in 2012. I like this shoe and missed out in 2000. in 05 got a ds pair but they will stay like that.

I grew up a Laker fan, never a fan of the Bulls or MJ. I liked his shoes because they were hyped back then too. Just a different hype than there is today...

Don't worry about what others think. Sure it's a cliche, and it's sometimes harder to stick to than it sounds, but it's true.

"Hypebeasts" - "who grew up watching who" - "OG heads" - "nostalgia" etc. ...you'll soon realize that it's all a load of bollocks. In real life nobody is worrying about you or what you're wearing or why you're wearing it.

No-one is any "realer" than anybody else or deserves to have more respect just because they so happened to be born a few years before someone else. The same way as no-one deserves more respect just because they have a higher post count or earlier join date on a message board.

No-one on this board was around to watch The Beatles or Jimi Hendrix perform live ...that doesn't mean they can't enjoy their music.

Basically you are saing you buy jordans because they look cool...and you like sneakers...what do you know of the history? What can you tell me about the impact they had on you? Sounds like you buy shoes as a hobby, which is cool, but have not connection to the shoes. But who am I to judge. I don't buy alot of the new stuff because it doesn't resonate in my heart. I wish you guys would just take the time to learn about them before you guys say you want them.

I started to wear air jordans to play basketball
In the og VIII because they were one of the
Best basketball shoes around in 1993.
But jordan obsession started with 1996
When i missed out the XI because i did
Not know that all jordans are that limited
In production. Most of my jordans
Have graced the hardwood and some
Even the blacktop. Was most disappointed
In the VI and XI retros performance wise
And surprised with 2001 III retros, 2005
X retros.
From the older air jordan models i still
Ball in the X, XII, XIV. The XVI, XVII, XIX,
XX, XX1 are also great on court.
Have not tried the 2010 and 2011 yet.
But im definetly a guy who collects air jordans
Not because they are famous or hyped
but because they are the shoes that MJ
Wore in the NBA and still being inspired
To represent his legacy.

This. I feel the same way with the first set of retros since I missed the OG's from the 80's to the late 90's. I started buying Jordan's in 2000. My parents could not afford Jordan's in the late 80's and throughout the 90's because the price tag was high at that time and I have 5 siblings (3 brothers and 2 sisters).
We are the same age. But if a 14 year old person buys Jordan's does not consider him/her a hypebeast.  But they do buy what is trendy to them (now it Jordan's, foams, Lebrons, Kobe's, etc). Maybe they are hypebeast depending on the definition. Everyone should buy what they like.
