Why are Black people expected to speak up for other groups? vol. #OscarsSoWhite

I love how on social media, people fight injustice with contradictions.

People fight bullying with bullying, racism with racism, etc.

Oh, you're going through a struggle? Let me shout my struggles louder than you to show how much more I'm struggling.

But nobody ever actually gets any type of anything accomplished.

random. and probably not on topic. but whatevs.

Get it through your head that there were people who wanted Liang to get off. Many were at that same protes some of which shouted down BLM protesters. Hop on Twitter and search the hashtag #PeterLiang. Read the comment section from the NY Times article that recently came out about this issue. There are plenty of you who showed your true feelings last week all the while setting up shop in our neighborhoods.
Ok...? There were also plenty of Asians and Asian Americans who didn't want Liang to get off. There were also plenty of Asians/AAs that were voicing the opinion that both the sentencing and the killing were unjust. There were plenty Asians and Asian Americans at the counter protest alongside BLM protestors. You do realize there are people of different races that have supported African American civil rights, right?

I remember seeing an article posted on Facebook about Joan Trumpauer Mulholland being the first white member in a black sorority, and the comment section was FILLED with black people who just jumped to conclusions and said stuff along the lines of  "WHY WOULD THEY LET THIS WHITE DEVIL ***** IN" . I mean, this was a woman who was HEAVY in the civil rights movement and was part of the Freedom Riders. Likewise, there were plenty of Asian Americans that were protesting alongside African Americans (as well as in the Black Panthers) during the civil rights movement and bridging racist divides (Yuri Kochiyama).

Sure there are some people that are bummed that Chris Rock didn't acknowledge other races were also severely underrepresented in Hollywood as well, but a lot of people are actually more pissed that within the whole theme of racial inclusion, Chris Rock/Sacha Baron Cohen made a racist jokes (towards Asians/Jews). Stereotyping African Americans is super detrimental no doubt, but by stereotyping other people you're perpetuating the same injustice that you are fighting against. Fighting stereotypes with stereotypes just creates a greater divide between communities and ruins race relations ever more in the US.

However, if you really believe anonymous comments on the internet are a valid measure to stereotype an entire subset of people, okay.

so black people can't be racist?
Anyone can be racist. There's a difference between the broad term racism and systemic/institutionalized racism.
Black people can be racist but they can not engage in systemic racism.

Divide between the communities? At the end of the day, we stick to our own just like you stick to your own, like every race sticks to their own. There's more anti Blackness from those communities than there are people who are our "allies". Might as well have thrown Bernie Sanders in there.

So the latest argument in this thread is that Asians can be racist to black people......

Like black people don't make stereotypical racist jokes against Asians ALL THE TIME.

Me love you long time, ching chong ching.

THATS NOT RACISM!!!!!!

they say.

We still arguing semantics?

rac·ism
ˈrāˌsizəm/
noun
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
"a program to combat racism"
synonyms: racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, casteism
"Aborigines are the main victims of racism in Australia"

Can we move on now?

Yeah black people are so racist against Asians that we ALWAYS eat in their restaurants and shop in their stores. So evil.

You go above and beyond tryna play devils advocate that it makes you look dumb and you seem like a smart dude.

Just to be clear, it's black folk responsibility to stand up for injustices towards black folks AND other minorities as well?

That's quite a task.

That's cuz it's on social media. Can't be looking for accomplishments of importance there in regards to those issues.

All it's good at is attacking ppl for those things that are looked down upon in a similar fashion to bullying.

What kind of argument is this

Do white people NOT eat at your restaurants?

Just because you support a specific race and their businesses doesn't exempt you from being racist towards them...so the argument is the only people that Can in fact be racist is white supremacists of power?...because they are the only ones in a position to halt the progress of the oppressed race?

I'm sure if you go to a BLM rally or protest you will see people of all shades fighting alongside the black community....I don't know where people are getting off with this "they don't fight with us, they want us to fight for them" theory.

I truly never understood this logic. Theres one real easy ****ing solution to this, DONT SHOP THERE. OPEN UP YOUR OWN DAMN STORES.

If Black people could get loans as easily as someone fresh off of the boat, we would. We'd like to establish economies in our own neighborhoods too, but non "model minorities" don't get the same access to resources.

I like how having chris rock host is supposed to create the perception of oscars being diverse yet managed to stereotype asians

Aren't loans based on credit not color?...And we control our credit score, no?...

It blows my mind how everyone always feels compelled to tell black people what they need to do and how they need to fight for equality.

This society is conditioned to look down upon black people subconsciously. It really is sad.

Any time the black community speaks up, everyone yells in unison 'you're doing it wrong, do it this way.'

MLK is the best role model there is though. Pretty sure every black person knows what he did and how he did it.

See you don't understand the difference between prejudice and racism. You're probably the most clueless person on this board when it comes to race so I'm not even surprised.

Racial Jokes are ignorance and prejudice. Racism is enslavement. Jim Crow laws. Police brutality. Mass incarceration.

Not necassarily in the past as the loan process was more face to face in history than now but let's look at capital requirements. Blacks have been in this country for the longest and have the least wealth even tho you can say it's all about credit score even if you have a decent credit score being black usually means your family does not have any form of wealth or funds they can pass to you. A lot of other minoroty group families were able to build businesses during the time were blacks were unable to wether in their homeland or in the United States. There is no natural reason why African Americans are at the bottom of the US. AAs have been in the US as long as some white families but have for the most part no accumulated wealth. We can look at the turmoil from the 20s-60s erasing a lot of wealth that should be in the AA community. Look how many quality inventors there were in the yesteryear and the contributions these people had to American society. Clearly something unnatural is effecting the AA community.

I'm pretty sure if I parade around yelling out the N word I'd be classified as ignorant AND a racist, even though me using that word holds no more weight than a black person using any other racial slur, ITS RACISM no matter which way you slice it....yes there are levels to racism and blacks are the only victims of systemic racism, NOONE IS TAKING THAT AWAY....but don't tell me black people CANT be racist, that's a reach.

If that was the case I think I would have married a white girl, lame.

Thank you for taking the time to explain that things aren't as black and white (no pun) as they seem from the outside looking in.

Yeah that totally makes sense and part of this systemic oppression that dates back decades, but in today's society I don't see loan acceptance being determined by the shade of your skin, more like a number and if you are black with an 800 FIcO score, I'm sure no bank will deny you a loan....

With that said I totally understand that while everyone else might have gotten a start at 0, blacks been screwed for decades and started at -100 trying to play catch up and not being able to.

Btw I appreciate the tone and respect of your post. :pimp:
