Why Vote ?

Sheep mentality. Nobody with the courage or ability to change the system is getting there name anywhere near a ballot. Politics is entertainment for brainwashed adults who feel the need to identify with a group. Does that sound familiar to something u are totally against?
Atleast pig love gets it.
Exactly!!

If you don't vote, OR try to change the system, then I dont want to hear complaints.

What I WONT let you do is tell me that local voting doesn't matter.

Local voting DOES matter.

But if you feel like national voting doesn't matter, whats stopping you from doing it anyways?

You can feel like your vote doesn't matter, but at least casting a ballot for the national election gives me a peace of mind that on the off chance that it DOES, then i've done my part.

However, nothing is stopping you from going forward and trying to reform the existing system.

You've also committed the fallacy of asserting that there are only two parties.
Man what??

I get what your saying about local government, those changes are a lot more tangible. Still a lot of corruption there too.

I just really dont understand how you can show faith (yes voting for someone without any evidence that they can actually make a diff is showing faith) then turn around and attack religion so ferociously. I would understand if you just said I dont agree and left it at that, but you make it a point to belittle "God" every chance you get. Then turn around and defend politics? Politics of all things....smh

And Im sure there are plenty of religious ppl who arent completely sure if the things they believe are 100% true....so whats wrong with them still believing on the "off chance" that it actually is? You dont think that gives them peace of mind? You sound just like the people you're attacking. You're a smart dude, I respect that and Im sure you'll have a long winded response with articles and books you've read but really you're lost just like everyone else...please stop trying to give directions.

So if the same criminals are always the ones that we vote for, then how does anything get changed for the better champ?
You do realize that the two candidates work for the same banks right? Romney wrote Obamacare? Did you know that champ?
Ohhhh, I get to vote between Burger King & McDonalds!! Both are gonna kill me boss.

I'm glad you asked champ...................

1.. You either organize and get other people that think and feel the way that you do and try to get a politician that represents what your looking for or YOU yourself run for office. Either way it starts from within champ.

2. Nothing new to me, thanks though.

3. The game is being played and is GOING to be played whether you take interest or not, either way the outcome of the game still affects you someway somehow as I said, even on a local level. That goes for you and anyone else in here with that "I'm not going to vote mentaility"

This has been a public service announcement brought to YOU by Deuce King!!

I can agree with u about local voting I guess I should have specified. What's stopping me from voting in the national election is the feeling that I would be supporting a system I do not believe in. That's what u are doing most by voting no matter how much u think ur vote counts. U are supporting the system more than anything and that is why I will not waste my time standing in line to decide between two extremes.

So politics is a game to be played and anyone that does not believe in voting between two criminals has no interest in what's going on huh?

Your grasping at straws with the verbiage/analogy that I used, but then again your a conspirarcy theorist so that doesn't really surprise me at all. Also, I already said what you should do if you think you only have the option for voting for a criminal. Either way, get involved.

I vote in Presidential elections primarily due to social issues. There is no argument against this. There is a clear dichotomy between the two major parties in this regard.

Good. Agreed

Am I defending politics?

I understand the flaws in the system, but ignoring it doesn't make them go away.

You even recognize the value in voting, so you've already make one back-track.

You probably have an issue with the extent of voting presently, not voting itself.

So make a better argument in that regard.

These are the problems with modern voting, not even addressing money in politics:

What are your ideas for reform?

Here are a few:

Here is another

We need voting.

Unless you want to go back to mere appointments or last-man standing cage fights.

So now that you know we need voting...

What type and to what degree? Thats the question.

You should focus on making more nuanced arguments if you're not going to address the nuances being presented TO you.

Pascal's Wager doesn't work for religion. Its not even analogous to politics.

Religion makes epistemological assertions.

Voting makes the verified assertion that your vote matters. If you're lied to, then thats another story, but its not the same.

It works for voting because there isn't another viable option to obtain political representation...sans a revolution every 2-4 years.

Literally.

Its possible to hack voting machines, and its even possible to literally steal votes. Thats a different story.

Money doesn't literally steal votes. Money influences people to change their vote via campaigns and other persuasive tactics.

EVEN if you think voting in the current system doesn't matter, I know that my single vote will have to be THAT MUCH MORE of a hassle for "the powers that be" to want to change my 0 to a 1 or vice versa. Thats that much more of a split second that they'll have to spend erasing my pencil mark, or clicking and dragging my entry, etc.

If you don't like the process, you should at least give them hell IN their system...especially if you're not going to have the fortitude  meaningful assert your ideas for reform or even try to change the system.

Tough.

Support a system you DO like or start your own.

Do you grow your own food too?

There are more than two candidates and there is more than one stance.

Its not easy. Its not supposed to be.

there are only two candidates that have a chance of winning though so whats the point? i support enough organizations that dont win (mets, knicks, titans fan) but atleast with sports i can see the results directly.  with politics its the same old corrupt people running the country we just get to choose who we want as the face of the corruption every four years.  that shouldnt be something that people should feel entitled to participate in but people like u wanna make those of us who know how to think for ourselves feel irresponsible for not falling in line and believing everything the media tells us.

Most people who complains about the government, does not vote. So shut the hell up

I vote in honor of my ancestors who were brave enough to look domestic terrorism in the face and cast their ballot for the party of Lincoln. Those strategic black folks who played off  conservative, paternalistic Southern Democrats against populist Readjusters in local elections. I vote in honor of the progressives who successfully overturned machine politics and secured the power to initiate. I vote because I have been unable to come up with an alternative solution for social, political, and economic change.

On the one hand, I am just as cynical as the rest of you. Sick and tired of corporate greed, impersonal politicians beholden to finance capital, and the sellers of a fabricated personality. On the other hand, conspiratorial notions about the illuminati and the so-called power structure don't do a damn thing. The same people criticizing politicians are the same one's who dogged Occupy Wall St. protester's. Talk about FEMA camps all you want. Talk about the once cozy relationship between Obama and investment bankers. But I tell you what, if you're not a member of the today's Gilded Age elite, you better wake up and recognize the fundamental difference between Obama and Romney. Don't be so foolish to think that a country should be run as a business because Romney's version of vulture capitalism will have you in a perpetual system of debt peonage.

A lot of you take this way too far.

Whether someone votes or not, it's their right. And it's your right to choose your beliefs. Standing by your beliefs is commendable enough to justify its reasoning.

if you don't vote / refuse to vote because you don't like the system . . . then what?

How would you make reforms?
How would you pass new laws?
How would you change the system?

What are your alternatives?

Shun society and create your own community in the woods, off the grid? No taxes, no currency, no consumerism, no credit, no internet, just you being one with nature? But you still have to come out to get your kicks on release dates.

Another alternative is armed revolt. People are too afraid to do that regardless of how much they complain.

What will really happen when you refuse to vote / participate is that the rest of the world will continue to change and evolve around you regardless how much you whine and complain.

People so blind that they can't see there really isn't major differences between these political parties

Most of you won't be able to handle this though..... enjoy :D

voting for the president of the United States of America is just another social experiment conducted by the rockerfeller commission...
