Why Vote ?

I vote in honor of my ancestors who were brave enough to look domestic terrorism in the face and cast their ballot
:smokin
You all love voting for people you think will win instead of voting for people who represent your values.
Thats the hard part about voting, finding someone who represents your values.Even if they come close most are to far left,to far right or whatever they represent gets cast aside do to their popularity.

That article may have just swayed me to vote for someone I never hear of, Jim Carlson.
He's only on the ballot in Minnesota
This is why "boots on the ground" matter.

People don't even know their own power when they really think about it.

All it would have taken is enough signatures for him to be registered.

Hell, even some of the leading republicans at the beginning of the year didn't garner enough votes to make the ballot in all states.

If enough of your peers didn't vote then you would become a swing state.

Go figure.

Never happening in NY.
You have no one to blame for your misrepresentation other than yourself.

How am I being misrepresented? The candidate that most closely resembles my ideas and views will undoubtedly win the electoral votes in my state.
Now If my state started trending towards the middle, or if the president were selected using the popular vote, I would most certainly change my tune.

It is a personal choice.

A rare event is not an impossible event.

You're complacent. Just say so and move on.

Its easy to tout "history" and "tradition" instead of being responsible for for reform.

There are more candidates out there than "D" or "R"

But you're not even supporting the candidate that resembles your views.

You're taking credit for something you didn't contribute to.

I'm going to because Scarlett Johannson said I should, and I enjoy looking at her breasts....

Stop posting. Your sarcasm meter is out of batteries for the day.

NY just went R in 80 and 84. It could go R in 2016. Anything is possible. IL, supposed Democratic stalwart, has voted just as many times D as it has R since 1972.

All it takes is 1 election result to embolden the opposition and turn a state into a swing state. Look at Arizona this year for instance. Obama thinks he can win it yet it's electoral votes have gone to the Republican Party for decades. I wonder what happened? Oh, that's right. Enough people voted against Republican policies. Voted! Can you believe that?

Anyone who thinks a single vote makes a difference in national elections in delusional. Putty, you dont come across as delusional to me so lets just call it "Idealistic."
Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, North Carolina, and/or Wisconsin are deciding our next president.

A third party candidate (Nader) is why Gore lost Florida in 2000.

I voted for Nader in 2000 (but I wasn't in Florida) . . . and I was very much leaning to H. Ross Perot in 1992 until his campaign fell apart that summer . . . I'm waiting for the day when a legitimate 3rd party candidate can emerge again . . .

at first i thought this was about LUPE's rant on twitter.. then i checked the date..

you mean the fact that p. diddy coming to your house and killing you for not voting doesn't scare you?

Your vote doesn't matter because it theoretically doesn't really matter... You think third party candidates ACTUALLY have those plans for presidency? It's a farce, just trying to cater to those who are looking to vote outside of the big two.

Paul Begala on the Swing Voters Who Will Pick the President | The Daily Beast

We don’t have a national election for president. We all know that. Thanks to one of the few boneheaded moves by the Founding Fathers, we have 50 statewide elections for presidential electors, who in turn pick our president. The Electoral College means that if you live in California or New York or Illinois (all certain to break for Obama) or Texas (overwhelmingly Republican), your vote essentially doesn’t matter. So right off the bat, 95.4 million Americans can be taken for granted—nearly a third of our population.

700

And that’s just for starters. If you live in Alaska, you’re in the bag for Romney; Hawaii, mahalo, is for Barack. Utah is Romneyland, and Massachusetts, where Romney was allegedly governor, is solidly for Obama. The truth is, the election has already been decided in perhaps as many as 44 states, with the final result coming down to the half-dozen states that remain: Virginia and Florida on the Atlantic Coast, Ohio and Iowa in the Midwest, and New Mexico and Colorado in the Southwest.

You think your vote doesn't matter because you're worried about everyone else.

Clearly people vote, and numbers get tallied, but for some reason you don't even wonder how one vote turns to ten, to 100, to 1 million.

One. By. One.

Each vote matters.

Tell me this, if voting doesn't matter then why is the GOP trying to enact voter suppression tactics against minorities and the poor in like 20 states?

But you're the one some how telling me that third party candidates don't matter. Hilarious.

Your patterns aren't even consistent when you try to establish them.

Its anyone's bag but you'd rather promote the big two instead of at least encouraging people to learn about smaller candidates.

Votes. Matter.

If anything that emboldens my position.

Third parties have just as much power as do the people who swap between the big two.

Anything is possible but you're shutting down the opportunity for people to take 3rd parties seriously.

Where do the votes come from in the other 42 states come from then?

Call me "idealistic" but you don't get to complain about the big two if you're neither learning about 3rd party candidates OR trying to change the system.

Again i'll spell this out. If you're not voting for the national elections, you are also skipping a chance to vote on local measures on the ballot that directly affect you.

More complaining from you.

You don't get what you want so now you get to cry about it.

You're not "thinking for yourself"...you're a complacent sycophant who has been tired by the very process you detest.

By getting you disinterested, you've let them win. Congrats.

You're just throwing your hands up and letting them take victory laps with your complacency.

How does it feel to not even be able to represent yourself? Feels like "thinking for yourself"...right?

That "thinking for yourself" mentality doesn't do a damn thing if you:

A. still have the same system in place

B. don't try to change the system

C. don't participate in the system to use it against itself.

You have no one to blame for your apathy and fatigue than your own efforts (or lack thereof) to reform the system and fervently pursue the goals you wish to see fulfilled.

You just want to be on the winning team. You don't want to actually have to fight for something.
nobodys complaining im just using the internet to discuss things id rather not discuss with friends and family since unlike u i like to be aware of when im coming off as a douche.  that whole be the change you wish to see approach is inspiring but unrealistic.  you are truly naive if u think a group of righteous individuals is going to change decades and decades (probably longer) of corruption. so basically in order to recognize something is flawed we must be able to have an alternative first and already be acting on that alternative before we can call a spade a spade?

im not trying to change your opinion let me just ask u this. have u ever heard the term (in america) believe in god or die?

You are right about that... Look at Iowa, New Mexico, North Carolina for tangible proof...

As for NY if Cuomo runs (and who are we kidding everyone in the country knows he is running) NY will go Dem..

But the way it works is the percentage gap is unexpectedly good for the party that never wins the state first (they don't win but get unexpectedly closer).. It normally takes a few election cycles to turn a strong hold state into a swing state.

I was reading about Texas becoming a swing states in a little over a decade because of the changing population.

Why recognize corruption even exists if you don't care to change it?

Yep.

Because other than that, you're not doing anything.

I've never heard of that...but if I had, I wouldn't acknowledge it.
