congrats famo, highly ingenious NO DOUBT.....
if only she was a well-known NTer (not that she needed to be), then maybe the dots would have been more connected and things woulda stood out more for the rest of oblivious folk.
it's cool if she's into sneakers and into NT like that, otherwise I wouldn't feel right to be able to pull it off
I just cringe during the toast/reception or how ppl will ask "How did you get proposed to?" "oh, on an internet forum dedicated to a bunch of sneaker nerds"

Here are two ideas that you are free to use:
1.) This one has to be done on a special day like birthday or Christmas, etc. Basically get her a pair of sneakers and remove the 'stuffing' from inside one of the shoes. Put the ring in the toe box and then some paper back inside the shoe (so that it is not obvious). When you give her the shoes say something like "I heard they run small so try them on so we'll know if we have to exchange them." When she goes to try them on, she will pull out the 'stuffing' and find the ring.
2.) This one takes some collaborating with a third party. Oh, and it helps if she likes Happy Meals from McDonalds. Before hand you go to a McDonalds and talk to whichever manager is on duty and tell him that you are going to come in at a specific time and order a Happy Meal and you want them to put the ring inside the box (or bag) like where you'd normally find the toy. So you are with her and you tell her you are in the mood for McDonalds and you convince her to go. You go through the Drive Thru and order the Happy Meal for her. She looks in the bag and she finds the ring.

I'm pretty sure you won't get it back if that happens.
