Work/Life Balance Is Overrated

Usually when you work over 40 isn't it time and a half??.. I know mines is..

I know mines is....but I'm still considered salary. If I only work 10 hrs a week I still get paid for 40 and anything over 40 is time in a half.

What does it mean then? I am very very efficient at my job so if a project that takes 5 hours for my co-worker to complete and I can do it for 3-4 hours, doesn't it mean I am obviously better skilled than him?

Ok, it wasn't explained that way. I wasn't speaking on the same job tip.

I was thinking he was saying if you work more hours then someone who made more then you then your just a sucker.

Two indications of when you've crossed the line of working too much:

1) negative health affects on your body/mind
2) alienation of family, loved ones, and friends (this can include yourself as well)

The problem with these two things is that 90% of the time we ourselves cannot point them out/we don' t stop it from getting worse until its too late. In most cases others point it out to us and we get offended and classify them as "haters"

this is coming from a self-employed business owner whose business does 200k + a year....so yes I do work a lot, but i know the realities of working too much. Truth is it never outweighs the joy of happiness and good health with loved ones.

Using your mind to make money > using your body and physical exertion

that is the ultimate combo breaker when it comes to wealth

^ Man you're putting in an additional 20 hours a week and getting the same pay as dude putting in 20 hours less and you don't see anything wrong with that?

Man go ahead with all that...straight sheep mentality.

:lol hell yeah...

Dude tripping.

I bet he wouldn't mind if dude got his promotion and his girl too

Since your both so thirsty to diss point out my post where I said anything of the sort.

Of course I won't work harder then my coworker just to get paid less.

But if your job A pays you more and you work less what does that have to do with my job B.

People sleep too much.

I know a chick who sleeps 10 hours a day,

word some broads straight hibernate.

Never work more than your supposed to unless you'll be getting handsomely compensated. For example--

worker A works 40 hours and makes $60,000/year
worker B works 60 hours and makes $60,000/year

Worker A makes about $29 /hour
Worker B makes about $19 /hour

Worker B is a fool

Sometimes you gotta take loss to make a gain. I've done favors beyond my job and pay in the past and it has come back to help further my career

Yup, Donald trump, bill gates, Steve jobs all suckers.

Guy who enjoys sitting on his *** WINNER
genius and business magnates aside...

You need to get compensated for the time you work. Period.

If the guy next to you is making the same but it takes you 1.5 times the amount of time it takes him to do the exact same job... You're losing.

If the guy next to you makes more and works less... And y'all have the same job... You're double losing.

I agree don't know how this was even a debate. I never said otherwise

I am not sure if this is serious advice or not, because I do the most work in my department by far and get paid the least becuase I'm the newest. Everyone else is in the twilights of their careers though so I doubt they really care.

Basically. Seems like a lot of NTers like to eat but don't know how to hunt

I used to work in sports, hours are crazy, perks are amazing (*if you're a sports fan), the pay is crap.

Decided I wanted to make more money, still working about 50-60 hours a week, but more stable, and have side ventures on the side. I'm basically out of the house from 9am to 9pm.

Money doesn't sleep.

Worker B is not a fool. The whole idea of working longer hours is that you're getting more done and making yourself more valuable to the company. Worker B is more likely to receive a promotion and make more money in the future. I don't see why this is hard for people to understand.

Not really, I've seen plently of people around me who quite frankly I am much better than get promoted and I havent receive anything. Tenure far outweights aptitude in a lot of cases. Its annoying to see, but it is what it is.

Naive.

It's not about the quantity of work. it's about the QUALITY.

I can personally say, I've gotten promoted several times just based off the quality of my work. I do more with very little time. Working smart and efficiently means more than working long hours and getting stuff done.

that scenario is basically tossing valuable hours in the air like its nothing. People damn sure should care what the next person makes, especially if you're in the same position, but making less money

Another thing I learned is that capitalism doesn't respect or reward manual labor, *shrugs*

I never said it was all about the amount of work. If you have to work 60 hrs to do the same amount someone else can do in 40 then you're a liability. In this scenario we're controlling for aptitude and work product and we're assuming that, all things being equal, the dude who works an extra 20 hrs and gets more done is gonna be promoted sooner.
