Obviously you don't need a world AIDS day to go get tested, but that still doesn't change the fact that most people don't. Thats supported bystatistics that show that AIDS is fast becoming #1 killer of black women in the US. Days like this are meant to bring attention to the issue and try to fosterchange in peoples behavior.
Instead of trying to preach to the choir, why not just tell a friend to go get tested instead of doing nothing?

Word..and people with AIDS will always have a stigma unfortunately.
Its the ONLY dissease that is 100% preventable baring (sp) that you were born with it or got raped or had an unlucky pre 1980 blood transfusion.

just because you shouldn't need a special day to remind you to get tested doesn't mean that it's not necessary. special event days likethis are extremely effective for changing behavior (in this case getting tested or having safe sex...or abstaining?). think more psychology than sociology.
