Would you take a job offer in Africa?

If you are not living rich in Egypt, the living standard over there is despicable. Lots of pollution and lots of social and economic problems.Poverty is rampant.

Not to mention, the racism in Egypt makes America look like a wonderland.

werd.

i'd do it to make a difference job wise. looks good on resume (at least to the people who aren't racist

but home is where the heart is: new york city forever.

I'm actually thinkin bout tring to get a job as a international social worker once I graduate so yea I would love a job in Africa. My mom actually did itfor a while and loved it. As others said I heard the pay is better

I have a friend who just came back from a venture in Capetown not to long
ago and she said she loved it. (go figure, she's in Capetown

)

But for me it would really depend on what my job actually was.
I wouldn't necessarily want to work in the more poverty ridden locations unless I've have
some type of hand or direct effect within the community.

Bettering the struggle instead of just being another partaker of it.

I think where in Africa makes a big difference
Some people classify the whole continent as one horrible place

True Indeed.
For some people depending on location
it wouldn't even be much of a stretch as they assume it would.

I have not looked into racism in Egypt. My mom works with diplomats. Those who travelled to the Middle East mostly point out Egypt as the worstMiddle Eastern country they have been to. The poverty and pollution is a serious problem. The country is overpopulated and they have graveeconomic/political/social issues. One serious social issue is with street kids/people.

As for if we are going to talk about Africa as a continent as a whole...So much ignorance in here. So many African countries are filled with so much resourcesand beauty, but you let Western media news outlet paint a picture of it for you. It has so much to offer and so many countries in Africa can be consideredeconomic and development success stories such as Botswana. People over here trying to dismiss it as a 3rd world continent as if it is some disgusting place allover. Open up your eyes and stop just looking at the news. How many places in the U.S. have it so bad because of the inequality gap and you can say they are nodifferent than some other places in the world in "Third World" or developing countries? Third world living conditions and overall deterioratingstandard of living does not just happen in third world countries.

I would, in hopes of restoring the land to what it once was before it was invaded.

Of course I would.

Africa is not as backwards as some of you may think. Most of North Africa is pretty advanced (way more advanced than Sub-Saharan Africa) and there are regionsin the continent that aren't too bad (parts of Western Africa, Eastern Africa and South Africa the country). You will find all the technological amenitieswe have in the West.

Also, you'd pretty much be given everything if you were offered a job there. Good accommodation, benefits, above average wages, etc. Making $30-$40k USDmay not seem like a lot in the U.S. but you'd be living like a king with that kind of money in Africa. Brand new 3-Series BMWs start at around $25k inAfrica.

And believe it or not, but a lot of people in Africa generally tend to be happier than Westerners. Despite the tons of problems plaguing their countries, theyare happy people because they value whatever they have. On the other hand, Westerners are so caught up in material lifestyles that they never appreciate whatthey have and always want more. It also helps in Africa that life is much more laid back and people are more care free. However, this is also probably one ofthe many reasons why the continent remains under-developed

This is 100% false. You'll survive just fine in Egypt if you're in the lower middle-class. Middle-class workers make around 1000 Egyptianpounds a month (about $180 USD) and they are able to survive. Monthly rent is as low as 10 pounds a month, daily transportation is around 5 pounds so wages arein proportion to living standards. People are quick to compare wages in under-developed countries to the cost of living in the West. Sure, $180 USD a monthwill get you NOTHING in the U.S., but its enough to survive month-to-month in the Middle East.
Not to mention, the racism in Egypt makes America look like a wonderland.
This is 100% false. I know tons of East Africans who lived in Egypt for 5-20 years and not once did any of them speak of racism. In fact, many ofthem were perceived to be Egyptians when they learned to speak Egyptian Arabic. In case you didn't know, Egyptians are mixed people and so you'll havemany who are born with extremely dark skin color. In case you didn't know, Egypt was once the same country as Sudan for over 50-years and so many peopleborn in Sudanese territory have Egyptian citizenship. In case you didn't know, Egypt is home to tens of thousands of black Africans who make a living anddo well financially in the country. In case you didn't know, Egypt does not have a history of slavery or de jure segregation like the U.S. does. I hatewhen people make ignorant comments like this without any basis at all.

Oh yeah, here's the most popular Egyptian President ever....racism in Egypt, huh?

Poverty and pollution is a serious problem but unfortunately that is the result when you had a socialist revolution that set the country'seconomy back 40-years and a dictator who has been in charge for almost 30-years. Not to mention that Egypt has the largest population amongst Arab countriesand I believe the 3rd highest population in the continent. Despite it's wealth of problems, Egypt remains one of the most developed Arab and Africancountries. Poverty is definitely a problem in Cairo but there are a bunch of really clean suburbs in the city where pollution and noise arent a problem (andyou dont need to be rich to live there either).

yeah. Just depends where. I've been looking a south africa for a while now.

yeah as of now. ten years ago you would have had places like South Africa, Uganda on that list ect....Africa is just so diverse in everything that IMO if you not from there, why live there?
With that type of thinking there'd be no immigrants in NYC.
you just compare Africa to NYC?
Yeah but more so 18th/19th century America.
There were more jobs than people in America at the time, not so much the case in Africa.
That wouldn't change anything. You think the majority of immigrants got a job off the boat? and to speak on right now there's still plentyimmigrants coming to the country for jobs and there's more ppl than jobs.

Plus the hypothetical proposed in this thread is that you're already offered a job in Africa so the proportion of people to jobs is irrelevant.

Maybe. Depends on the circumstances. I was born here but my fam is from Nigeria. My pops is still out there. We have a very nice house in a very affluentneighborhood. There's a lot of money to be made out there for those willing to look past the poverty and corruption. Same goes for many African nations.Who knows, if things don't go well for me out here I may keep it movin. Here's a pic of my pops crib (which is now a boutique hotel).

I've got more pics but you get the picture. If you're smart, hardworking, business minded and willing to take the risk, you can live a better life inAfrica then the one you're living here.

If I was an assassin or something like that I would............. maybe a spy?

Obviously there are some good things going on in Africa, but all we see on American TV is rich actors asking for help to feed children or the latest news report on some refugee camp getting murked. You can't deny that it's probably the least desirable place to live in the world.

With that being said, I would like to visit and possibly live there, as long as I was mostly safe. I'd like to teach English over there possibly.

i back this. american media is the BIGGEST reason for america's perception of africa or ANY other 3rd world country (Haiti).

ok broseph. media or not, a majority of Africa is not fit to live. My African friends tell me this.

my roommate is Ethiopian born in the states but her parents are from there...her mom is over there running a business where she buys clothes out of dept.stores here and sells them over there in her store...has a bangin house...a BMW...livin it up...

but i would take a job anywhere in the world for the right pay and i'm not in a war zone

never been to africa, so i can't argue with you on that point. im just pointing out that most people don't get the whole picture because the media.this excludes obv people from/who've been there.
