Arrogance of having a college degree

Don't do it for the money because you will be miserable.
Do you honestly believe this? I think people just say this because its the "right" thing to say. The only reason I do any of the things I do for my career is for the money, its literally the only thing that matters when it comes to a job to me. I would do something I absolutely despise if the money was great and I wouldnt be sad at all, matter of fact if I was doing something I "loved" and broke, I'd be even more mad about that.

The "when you do something that you love, money also comes with it" falls into that umbrella also.

You have to at least like what you do or you'll be miserable, I can't wake up 5x a week for 30 years dreading walking into my job.

thats not totally true.....once you make enough money where you comfortable, and you realize how much you hate your job you'll walk away.

look at Seinfeld...once you feel like you're done you done....and look at how much money they was throwing at him for another season.
I doubt that. I cant be compared with Jerry Seinfeld either, his situation and mine will never be comparable ever. He had syndication money, a legacy, and a host of other things that played into that situation.

It totally depends on what the money is like for me. If it sucks and pays extremely well I'll be fine. There are few things that I could do for a career that I would actually like, and the windows closed on most of those.

With no hesitation whatsoever. The money IS the balance in my book.

If I despise a job, that means there is stress involved. One thing I learned is that being stressed to make a little more money isnt worth it

Once upon a time, my ex's biggest snap me (in her mind) was that she was gonna have her master's (in art though). :smh:

Chick has been a waitress since I met her.

Yesterday I asked what's up with the master's when I picked up my kids and she told me that she dropped out and is still waitressing... I honestly felt sorry for her dumb *** in a way. $90 K + in the hole for an art degree and I used to be a full time graphic designer/conceptual artist with no formal education in that field.

Now she wants to get into real estate but has never had any drive to push herself beyond her comfort zone. It took me all these years to see that she just morphs into whoever she's dating.

*whomever for you educated foks that don't converse with those beneath you.

Stress triggers the release cortisol. A steroid hormone that suppresses testosterone production. I'm good. Stress free is the way to be.

Computer Science is what im majoring in
nthat.gif

Naturally talented, and maintaining/using computers is one of my biggest hobbies.

Doing what you love and being compensated greatly for it >
Same here bro cant wait to graduate next Fall.

The people who boast about having a degree are clowns. Who cares if you have a BS/BA doesn't need to be the topic of every conversation.

Once i graduate that will never be the topic of any discussion, unless im at an interview.

And that Lucky dude is shallow as hell.

Anti don't sleep on stress. It can have many effects on the body. I mean...... I can literally start a new thread on the topic if you want. Why would anyone put money over their well being is beyond me.

That was me when I graduated in 2003. Unfortunately for me I found out I didn't like programming at all. Didn't take school serious since it wasn't really coming out of my pockets (was on scholarships) and ended up having to sit a semester. I just wish I knew more about the engineering field back then...I think I'm more suited for that field and when I go back to school thats what I plan on majoring in.

*edit...I agree w/ what you initially said, but Nas is a piss-poor example.

You need a male figure in your life. :smh:

Don't let these people tell you CS majors can only do programming. I plan to do little to no programming when I graduate. Once you get that CS degree you can explore the IT Field don't fall for that CS = programmer crap that these universities are pushing down every CS major's throat.

I can admit that I never thought stress was that serious. Just something that you man up and get over.

Sounds like OP needs to not talk to ******* cause that's what that girl sounds like. Its whatever when it comes to a degree to me. You just have to have SOMETHING when you leave highschool
trade, certifications, degrees or whatever. Even without advice is always welcome.

I see what rick saying. Yes its a good accomplishment but you got some people that act like they're hot **** because their 4 year degree. I'm getting mine in May next year and for some reason i feel like it isn't even enough :frown:

Maybe I should get my masters

Your situation depends on whether obtaining a degree will be helpful or not. Some folks don't have the $$, which will add extra effort, that those with money wouldn't need. If a degree was easy everyone would have one. I know plenty of people without an degree.
I feel any minority male that gets any type of degree is an accomplishment. I didn't see many minority males when I was in college.

So many want to be ballers with as little work as possible.
I was with you until "simply". Other than that I'm with you. I may be willing to smash a chick without an degree but I def don't see myself in a long term unless she has some sort of vision and I can actively see her trying to make an reality. IMO, if I want to become better I need to surround myself with those who want to be better. A degree wont make you better but it does show that you you can commit to something long term. The harder it is, better the commitment. I grew up in a two degree household and I want to provide the same for my child.

I think pride my be mistaken for arrogance. It's a struggle for some to obtain an degree and for some a degree means more than what society views it for. For me it means more way more. I was an "D" average high schooler, joined the Navy so my parents would not have to pay for it and lost full function of both my knees and my back in the process. I had parents whom could have easily paid for it but I chose to do it on my own. So I am very proud of my degree, I've lost allot in the process of trying to obtain it.
But is a degree or trainning program or certificate the ONLY way to be successful or well off in America? Ignore the entertainment industry, and you will find MANY successful people with no college degrees or certificates. This country is one of the few places in the world where if you really work hard and believe and find a niche in society, you can be successful. The Middle Class American are still my Heroes

The truth is, college degrees are another factor people use to judge you on. If I dont know you, id be more impressed and think higher of you if you tell me you have a degree from nyu or any respected school, than a community school. Just kinda how it is unfortunately.

Audi was pointing out chronic stress which is detrimental to your health, however acute stress has many positive affects on the body. Exercise is one example.

I feel you.

Im probably going to catch heat for this.. But what made programming interesting for me is the way it makes me feel upon completion of a project.

When you string together line after line of code and see it all come to life bug free I feel like a God almost. Like on some Architect of the Matrix type steez.
