All Things Sports Media Thread!!

This thread is kind of dope tho... We needed a sports media thread around here

I'm down to just turn this into a general sports media thread. Talk about the business and post HOT TAEKS.

Also, Simmons just tweeted he's at nearly 4 million downloads already. Once NBA season kicks in, that will increase.

Grantland was basically my homepage

Now with no Simmons and all pop culture writers gone... I need to find a new site

The former grantland was right in my wheelhouse

Jim Miller just penned an article for Vanity Fair:
Can ESPN Solve Its Grantland Problem?

http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2015/10/espn-grantland-problem

Over the last two years, ESPN management had heard from Simmons many times that he didn’t think they were selling Grantland aggressively enough. ESPN sources place annual ad revenue for Grantland at about $6 million a year, including the Web site and a Simmons podcast, but since his departure from ESPN, Simmons has rolled out his own (and his owned) podcast, which, according to an industry expert, is probably worth north of $5 million in yearly revenue alone. Thus Simmons is now making for himself roughly the same as Grantland’s entire annual ad-sales revenue.
:x
No surprise. Carolla has done real well since he moved to podcasts. Both of them have a cult following. Simmons should've just quit ESPN and started Grantland on his own from the get go.

Noticed his podcast is in the top 10 on iTunes now. And he's really only had Cousin Sal and Joe House on the Podcast. :smokin

I'm actually one of like 6 people that liked the girls in hoodie podcast
Going to be interesting to see how bill incorporates the grantland defectors to his new show/HBO programs .

I liked Girls in Hoodies as well.

I like female persppective, especially when seems like 80% of the voices in podcasts are male.

October 30th makes it exactly 4 years, full time, at Grantland. October 30th is also graduation day: my last day at Grantland. Feels right.

Are Barnwell and Mays out too? They missed an entire week of podcasts last week unexpectedly and I don't know if they've ever done that.

damn, BS taking down the ship. impressed with how much pull he's shown. i wonder if ESPN could have really prevented this extensive turnover, or if they just didn't care that much for grantland.

so far kinda disappointed with his podcasts. good to have him back but the sports analysis is watered down. cousin sal holdin it down tho

He was one of my favorite culture writers along with Wesley Morris.

Zach Lowe also hasn't posted an article in 10 days.
