So I was going to cop the Sonata Hybrid Limited after test driving one, loved the features, the ride, everything, they just didn't have a color I wanted. No problem right, we agree on a price, a value for my trade in, even sign some tentative papers (which at this point mean nothing) and they agreed to order me one just the same but in black. FFwd to today my car is in, so I go to pick it up, they calld me early and told me "don't even worry bout it," on my trade in, I can keep it, making it seem as if they were giving me the $950 off still AND letting me keep the car. Unlikely I know, but my car is a P.O.S and it's possible after test driving it again and looking further (the back window is being held up with a coat hanger and the door panel is falling off on the inside), they realized it wasn't worth any $ to even try to fix it up and sell or auction it.

So I get to the dealership to get my black one, sexy, fill out the new paperwork, notice they put the $950 back into the price but whatevs, I can deal since I'm getting a steal getting the Limited with the Navi screen, sunroof, etc top of the line trim for 23.6k I signs everything and drive off. As I'm driving I think, how do I do this sunroof again, look up, no sunroof! Wait, no navi screen! No 400 watt Bose system!

I turned right back around and left it right on the front of the dealership so everyone will see it in the mornign, called the salesman and he agreed to talk to me about it but they closed so I'm going to have to wait til tomorrow.

Yes I know I signed the papers today, but I also know for a fact you have a 72hr window.

TLDR: Agreed on 1 car and price level, they order me a lesser 1, I sign before I realize, left the car back for them to see tomorrow

Does this dealership EXPRESSLY STATE you have 72hours?  Thats not a national law..

PS- I'm assuming this wasnt a reputable lot.. ive seen the bait and switch, but not to this level

It's an official Hyundai dealership (my mom's indecisive self has done it a few times).

I'm not sure it's law, but I've known many people to take cars back within 3 days.

It'll be he said she said if they try to argue with me they never agreed on the higher feature trim level previously, even though its obviously the case because they were trying to get me to just take the one I drove but I didn't want white. Obviously no way I would agree to get me the car I want but at the expense of the premium features.

 Forreal... I can almost understand not noticing the lack of a sunroof immediately on a black car, especially if it was at night...... but how the hell do you not notice no navigation screen as soon as you sat in it ?

It's a black car, didn't notice the sunroof until a few minutes of driving when I wanted to mess with it and looked up. The navi screen though, yes it's 3 inches larger than the regular screen. Same thing, didn't notice it til I went to mess with it. I signed the papers before getting the keys and getting to sit inside the car as well. Just ran around the outer body of the car real quick and went back inside, when I had to sign the condition received paperwork

Could go either way I guess. But like really, who would agree "Yea I want this car but in a different color. Ok if you have to get me a significantly lesser version.'

They threw some darker ten on the sunroof glass so it'll blend in ?

you'll be ok, question is though.. do they even have what you wanted in stock?

if so its just a rewrite.

if not, its a rollback for them.

if they wont take the car back, leave them the keys and say ur not doing the deal. threaten to call the GM and explain your case. its not worth a headache for the dealership, especially if youre still going to buy a car from them anyway

Good luck papi
Argue with them and break them down

Did they ever give you a Vin # of the new black model they would be ordering? Was a feature list given describing what the car had? Or did you just sign stuff without reading?

hyundai have been producing legit carslately but not seeing the navi at first was your first mistake.

Man, I haven't ever heard of something like this going down.

You paid $23,600 so that's probably like $4-5k more than the version you drove off in.

Only other thing I would have done is emailed the salesman so that it is in writing and clear that they did not give you what you signed for and it is documented in writing that you realized it almost right away.

What's wrong with Hyundai? They make decent cars now a days

There's nothing wrong with Hyundai. All cars these days are "good". No company can afford to make a "bad" car. They'd go out of business in a heartbeat. The difference between a good and bad car today isn't the difference between an "A" and and a "D", it's more like the difference between an "A" and a "B".

If they let me out of the deal, I'll probably go back to the Kia dealership if they'll take me. I texted him when I was buying the Hyundai  Be like talking to a chic then another passes by so you dead that then go chase the other chic off in plain sight of the first chic, think it's going down so taunt her (not literally, I texted him telling them at Kia the deal I was getting to give him the chance to beat it as we agreed since I visited them first but told them I would look at other models) then get rejected and try to come back to the first chic and apologize and tell her you were never interested in the second chic to begin wif

i think it might be better off to take a cordial approach rather than go guns blazing (figuratively). these guys probably didn't make a mistake and probably knew exactly what they were doing -- i think you are probably at their mercy unless there is some 72 hour clause. i'd be friendly. then i would act like i was in disbelief. then i would threaten to slam them on social media (i know, super scary - but effective).

might not be worth the headache to them.

but judging by that analogy up there, i'm thinking they figure its immoral to let a sucker keep his money

Hyundai makes a decent car but still question reliability.  When we get Hyundais at my dealership for trade they need a ton of work typically.  We took in a 2011 Sante Fe with only 30k miles and it literally needed 5k in work.  So it went straight to the auction.

As far as OP's situation check if your state has a cooling off period.  If not you may be screwed if they dont want to unwind the deal.

Not to make you feel bad or anything but in the many years working in the car business I have yet to see someone not notice a large amount of features missing especially obvious ones like nav and a sunroof.   Did you not test drive it when it came in?  Not see the build sheet?  The trim level of the car?  Did the salesman not do a proper delivery and just toss the keys?  It amazes me that you found this all out while driving out.
