Good roll lately, but still has me feeling very weary of possible flukish nature.

How I would fix the Yankees...

1. First thing, try to extend Chapman long term, and get it done before the offseason. Keep Betances, Miller & Chapman together for a while. If you have to pay 2 guys Closer money, you do so. Especially considering you have 3 more years of Dellin under arbitration. Investing $30mil in guaranteed "Bullpen Aces" is such a worthwhile investment. Especially when you consider that you will end up spending $20mil for a Great Closer & Quality Setupman anyway. 4 year / $50-55mil isn't a bad idea.

2. Let Pineda's season play out for him. If he stinks it up, you keep him on the cheaper end. If he kills it, you may have to let him go. A long term investment on him for a high dollar amount is too much of a risk. $10mil is my hard ceiling for him.

3. Send Severino down to the minors for the rest of the season, and let Nova take his spot. He gains nothing being up here anymore this season. Let him go back to AAA, refine his pitching, work on being deceptive, mixing in pitches and speeds. He'd also have all offseason to work, and will come back on the back end of the rotation in 2017, if Pineda somehow stays.

So closing the season would be Tanaka - Pineda - Eovaldi - C.C. - Nova

4. Just ride it out with Teixeira and Beltran. When their deals are up. Bring up Bird & Judge. Save $40 or so million.

5. Look to trade Brett Gardner. He's been meh. Ellsbury has been better this season, and while Ellsbury deal is much much worse. He has a no trade clause, and even if you didn't have one, it would be tough to get out of anyway. Also because Brett is at a smaller number + less years, likely get more from him.

Brett Gardner, Luis Torrens, Robbie Refsnyder & Jacob Lindgren should be able to pull a quality # 2 Starter that can be around for a while.

Torrens is blocked by McCann & Sanchez, he's at least 3 years out. Which could be longer if Sanchez does well.
Lindgren is pointless if you ink up Chapman long term.
Refsnyder isn't that great compared to the hype machine on him, but he does have potential to be a scrappy player in the right situation.

We still get by keeping potential Cornerstone pieces in Severino, Judge, Snachez, Kaprielian & Mateo

6. Let Headley's year play out. Has had a good May... .288 / 2 HR / 7 RBIs. At least in comparison to April. Need him to put up a solid 3 Homeruns 10 RBIS month from here on out. And stay above .250 per month.

If he doesn't pick up, then what you do is trade him. Turn his 2 year / $26mil into a 2 year / $20mil or 3 year / $30mil lesser player + a young prospect with a lot of work to develop.

You then follow that trade with trading for a smaller contract of an even worse player, and just try to mask the impact.

7. Do not trade McCann, it's not worth it. He's been playing well, and works well with the staff. Also is a good locker room guy. Unless you get a far better player, no reason to shop him.

You do this as a holding pattern, because we really screwed ourselves by not going after any Free Agents this past offseason. Should have spent on 1 guy at least, and said we will take the 1 year hit, knowing that we will have cap relief for the next couple years.. HELL, you could have signed a Free Agent OFer, and unloaded Gardner and the same prospects for a higher level prospect in a different organization.

4 BIG Series in a row.... If we want to get in and stay in, have to really clean up in the next 13 games.

3 vs. Blue Jays
3 @ Rays
3 @ Blue Jays
Makeup game vs. Tigers
3 @ Orioles

I feel like 10-3 is what we need to get within a couple of games.

Details On Carlos Beltran’s No-Trade Clause

Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran can block trades to 15 clubs under the terms of his limited no-trade clause, according to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney, who explores the possibility of a deal involving the veteran. Among the teams to which Beltran could be dealt without consent are the Indians, Nationals, Royals, Cardinals, Rays, Tigers, and Dodgers, per the report.

Of course, it’s far from clear whether New York will end up entertaining such a move. The club has moved back to within striking distance in the AL East already, and there’s plenty of time left before the deadline.

Parting with Beltran wouldn’t necessarily mean abandoning hope for the present season, Olney suggests. Shipping him out would free up opportunities for highly-regarded young players such as Aaron Hicks and Aaron Judge. They could be expected to provide value now while helping prepare for bigger roles in 2017 and beyond.

It’s fair to wonder just how much trade value Beltran would carry. On the one hand, he recently turned 39 and is a subpar outfielder (especially if one credits Defensive Runs Saved). On the other, he’s a highly respected veteran who is currently running out a productive .274/.299/.522 batting line, largely matching his overall production levels from last season (about 20% above league average).

Salary will certainly play a role, too, as Beltran is owed a healthy $15MM this season before reaching free agency at year’s end. Whether or not the market is receptive to that overall package remains to be seen, but presumably the Yankees won’t make a move unless they receive some kind of interesting return (barring a full-blown collapse in the next two months). That’s especially true given the uncertainty of Hicks and Judge as well as the fact that aging sluggers Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez come with their own blend of health, age, and performance questions.

I don't think you'll get a worthwhile prospect for Beltran anyway, and he's producing, so I'd pass on a trade.

Still want Gardner gone though. Simply because it's the best allocation of assets, and keeping him is kind of pointless.
