Blu-Ray: What's the difference? How much better than DVD? Is it worth buying?

Not all transfers are created equally. I've watched some blu-rays that are absolutely

. I think Casino was better on HD-DVD, but that's a different debate.

Thats gangsta right there.

A weak release week. All I really wanna buy is Appaloosa. That movie looked good to me but I love westerns so i'm biased. Anybody seen it?

Not sure if anyone on NT would be interested in this, but Amazon UK has the Planet Earth series for about $37 shipped after the exchange rate. I had to scoopone up for that price.

Check out amazon.co.uk

I bought Burn After Reading about a month ago on Blu and I popped it in today and it doesn't work. Any advice guys?

What player do you use?

PS3? Only thing I can think of is a firmware update. Doubt it's the disk. If anything take the disc back and get a new one.

Tell em it's defected. It's the truth.

Yeah the same thing happened to me with "Sunshine". I needed to do a firmware update and it worked fine.

It's the disk because I put in 3 other blu's and they all worked perfectly fine. Yea, PS3.

Edit: Amazon proves yet again why it's one of the best companies in America. Extremely easy return policy, all I have to do is mail back Burn After Readingwithin 20 days and they're gonna send me a new copy within 7 days starting today.

I seen blu-ray on a 1080p HDTV samsung and it really doesn't do anything for me but if I had money to just throw out I would get it

How does Troy look on Blu Ray? Loved that movie... Just picked up cloverfield/sleepy hollow combo pack at Frys for $19.99, and Casino & American Pyscho for$9.99. Frys is the best place I've found for deals around my way.

For older titles, definitely go to Fry's. They have some amazing deals. New titles are priced the same as Best Buy. Usually at $26.99.I've found that when buying Blu Rays, patience is the key. Don't buy new releases unless you HAVE to have them. The Dark Knight and Iron Man come tomind when buying new realease Blu's.

Troy looks and sounds good. You won't be disappointed. It's a definite upgrade over DVD. Plus, I think it's a good movie so that helps.

I heard this from a friend and its the best way to sum up blu-ray.

It looks so real that it kinda looks fake.

I think that Casino Royale is a must have Blu. It was the first BIG title for Blu-ray that really got people talking about it. Hell, it's what made me getthe PS3.

X-Men Films Coming to Blu-ray

Posted January 15, 2009 05:27 PM by Josh Dreuth

20th Century Fox In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring 'X-Men', 'X2: X-Men United', and 'X-Men: The Last Stand' to Blu-ray on April 21st. All three titles we be delivered as two-disc sets with 1080p AVC video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

No special features have been revealed at this time, but you can expect to see at very least all the extras from the previous special edition DVD releases.

Astute Blu-ray fans will remember that 'X-Men: The Last Stand' has not only been previously released, but was also the first Blu-ray title to be released by Fox back in 2006. It is unknown if this new two-disc set will be an extension of original release, or a completely new encode.

hope it comes boxed as well.

King Kong came out this week. Blu-ray.com gave the av transfer rave reviews.
-regarding the video quality; "It's gratifying to see Universal bestow such a phenomenal transfer on the film. King Kong is a reference qualitytransfer that will be used as demo material for years to come. Highly recommended! "

I'm not a great fan of the movie itself but I'd consider getting it just for the visuals alone. on sale @ sears right now as well for around $19

also next week- what i've been waitin for the longest
Bourne Trilogy!
Best Buy will have it for sale @ a price point of $64.99
currently the next best price is amazon.com but i foresee them droppin it down to BB price point for the week of their sale.

recently picked up Band of Brothers earlier this week on amazon for 34.99 thank to a gold box deal
