sorry im a noob when it comes to electronics, but if i wanted to watch a TV show on my laptop but play it on my tv,

would an VGA to Hdmi cord work?

my laptop only has a VGA connection and my T.V  has an HDMI connection?

Yeah, assuming you get the right cord it will work. Depending on your type of computer, you might have to go into Control Panel and switch the output to VGA instead of your laptop's screen, but that's the only problem I can foresee.

and the sound will probably be coming out of your laptops speakers still since it isn't hdmi-to-hdmi

invest in some quality PC speakers
