Is "The Crying of Lot 49" worth picking up?

For those that have read it was it good, the idea is very intriguing to me. Just wanted some opinions before I actually go out and buy it.

If I understand it correctly it is a detective story of sorts in which the main character gathers a ton of information and gathers "clues". She mustthen sort through them to figure out which is good and which is bad and she takes a lot of seemingly random actions. Because they are so many clues and thevalidity of them is unknown and there are so many possibilities, none of them actually mean anything. It's like playing connect the dots with infinitedots, you can make any shape you want, so the shapes you make actually don't mean anything. The more you try to find order, the more chaotic your lifebecomes.
