OFFICIAL 2010-11 SACRAMENTO KINGS SEASON THREAD - Vol. Too Lazy To Make A New Topic Right Now!

No contact with Morrow!?!?!?

Is that a smokescreen?
roll.gif

Not much stuff going on with the Kings until the big players like Bron Bron decide first.

The Kings should just wait for the other teams to over pay on the FAs and then pounce on the remaining ones after the other teams have no money left.

Morrow got a qualifying offer from the Warriors, about $1.09 million... Cheap! But dude needs to work on his defense.

Just wanted to post another list of FAs that the Kings can target in regards to PGs. I think a lot of these guys will be gone by the time Kings decide to spend some money on free agency, but there are definitely some under the radar PGs out there. Any one taking a chance on Shaun Livingston?
Kings Sign Donald Sloan to 1-Year Deal
Donald Sloan, the undrafted Texas A&M product recently named to the Kings' Vegas Summer League, has signed a one-year minimum-value contract with the team, according to Mark Deeks of ShamSports.com. Sloan will make $490,180, per Larry $!*!.

Sloan is now the fourth guard on the Kings' roster, and the 12th player overall, not counting Jon Brockman. In an open VSL team practice in Sacramento today, Sloan ran point on the "A team," which included Omri Casspi, DontÃ[emoji]169[/emoji] Greene, Hassan Whiteside and DeMarcus Cousins.

Cheap signing...

Good article about Cousins and leadership.
Cousins showing Kings his leadership skills

jejones@sacbee.com

Published Saturday, Jul. 10, 2010
Mario Elie praised rookie center DeMarcus Cousins for the things everyone knows he does well on the basketball court.

Elie, the Kings' summer league coach, noted Cousins' rebounding and skilled offensive game among highlights of the team's first minicamp practice Friday morning.

But Elie also pointed out something Cousins hasn't been given much credit for displaying: leadership.

Cousins, the Kings' first-round draft pick, was dogged for being immature before the NBA draft. But as he did when he worked out for the Kings before last month's draft, Cousins continues to show there's more to him that you might not know.

"(Cousins) was really vocal out there," Elie said. "He was encouraging his team to play harder. A lot of stuff you hear about him, and when you're around him, it's not the same guy."

Cousins has made a habit of not defending himself against negative perceptions. He said he always has seen himself as a leader. But he didn't do that at Kentucky last season.

The team had five first-round draft picks, including the first overall pick, John Wall. There also was forward Patrick Patterson, who was an established player when Cousins and his heralded freshman class arrived in Lexington, Ky.

"I took a back seat because we had John and we had Patrick," Cousins said. "That really wasn't my time, and now it's my time. It's a young team. There's no true leader. We have Tyreke (Evans), but he's not here right now, so it's my time to come in."

Cousins was aggressive rebounding the ball and showed off some impressive passing skills.

He looked comfortable facing up and making jump shots, too. Elie said the plan this summer, however, is to feature Cousins in the post, where his strength should be tough for teams.

Teammates had a hard time dealing with Cousins, as they struggled to get around him for rebounds. Elie said he believes Cousins will bring intangibles the Kings haven't seen since Chris Webber, Vlade Divac and Co. were piling up wins.

"He brings that tenacity that we haven't had in a while in Sacramento," Elie said. "He brings that toughness and swagger that we need in the frontcourt – even at 19."

Cousins scrimmaged on the same squad as Omri Casspi, DontÃ[emoji]169[/emoji] Greene, second-round pick Hassan Whiteside and rookie guard Donald Sloan.

Even while playing with the more experienced Casspi and Greene, Cousins wanted the ball late to try to win in a scrimmage, Elie said.

Cousins already is making a good impression on his teammates. They're glad to see the surly player they heard about is more like the "teddy bear" Elie describes.

"I heard a lot of rumors about him being, I don't know what," Casspi said. "But I'm happy that he's on the team, and he's a good guy. And as he gets better as a player, he'll be a force."

Cousins said he's getting in better shape, too. After weighing 292 pounds at the NBA draft combine in May, Cousins said he weighs 287.

"The weight's going down," Cousins said. "I'm feeling good, and I'm trying to get in the best shape possible."

Cousins sounds like a leader already.

I am a fan of Udoka actually. I just wish he was more consistent offensively in his 3pt shooting tho. He can probably help a contender with his defense or he can continue to just chip in sporadically for the Kings' bench. When he was on the Spurs I thought he was going to be the next Bowen, but I guess not.

WASH FA Josh Howard tells Y! he's optimistic he will overcome knee injury 2 be ready for reg-season. Wash, NJ, MIA, NY, SAC, LAC interested

Ehh no thanks, Maybe a couple years ago but he's getting old and injuries are becoming an issue.

^if we got him for a 2 yr MLE then I say go for it. Otherwise to f with that
laugh.gif
Especially since we kinda have a logjam at the 2/3 position

Cousin looking nice in that vid! Cant wait for the season to start. bout to head up to Vegas this week to meet up with Reke to catch a summer league games and then hit up next weeks USA tryouts.

It was really good to see Cousins and Whiteside play yesterday. The Kings haven't had a big man like Cousins that can just throw it down inside consistently since Webber pre-2003. With Whiteside's potential in defense, I really hope JT is watching and improves his game this summer as well.

There is going to be a starting SF controversy on the Kings. Casspi has bulked up this summer and gained 15 pounds or so. Definitely noticed it too. Defense and stamina will be key for him. Donte has probably improved as well, but he might lose that starting spot if he just continues to do the same things and not take the next step to be a more complete player.

Josh Howard would have helped the Kings like 5 years ago. Time flies...

I think the Kings are playing the Lakers today. Yessurr!

Another W for the Kings.  Really excited for this upcoming season.  Would someone be so kind as to make me a sig..?

Yeah, another good win for the Kings.

Cousins continues to impress me with his fluidity. Not many centers are going to dribble the ball himself after a steal to start a play or block a shot and be the first player back on the other side to receive the ball for a bull-dozing layup. His passing has exceeded my expectations as well. However, he does get dribbling happy at times, but that will stop in the regular season because he won't be the #1 option anymore.

Whiteside's defense is awesome, but his post game needs a lot of work.

Casspi started yesterday and he had a pretty poor game. Greene came off the bench and was lights out with the shooting. With Casspi's play making abilities, I think he will be a better option off the bench (Ginobli, Odom?), while Greene can start and provide the shooting and defense with his length.

Wayne Chism and Devan Downey were fun to watch too.

I'm never really satisfied with the sigs I make for the Kings. But this on is good since it's the same type face as the "Sacramento" on the primary logo

DMC looks like a great passer! Cant wait to see him develop with reke....

kings still need some shooters for the season!

Cousins coming through in the clutch, he had an excellent night.

Donte and Casspi looked good too. I can see the improvements.

Much respect if you do get season tickets. The Kings need the fan support in the building and I would definitely do my best to go back to Sac more often to watch them play as well.

looks like the kings have two guys who arent scared to take the last shot (i know its summer league), but still...

wished the season started tomorrow! never been so hyped up!
