*Official* Casino Gambling thread

Don't take advice from anyone who claims they have a "system" or an edge at a table game in a casino.

Not sure if you've noticed, but Craps is probably both the most social and superstitious game in the casino. It's an etiquette thing. You don't want to have some guy winning as a couple of folks crap out because it turns into a superstition and luck thing. Obviously I have no control over what the next man does with his bets, but from a superstitious standpoint, it irritates me that some guy is betting on me %$$@@$+ up. Now think of how irritating it would be for me to throw the dice and have it hit your hands if they were dangling over the rail to 7 out. Of course, do you and bet however makes you happy, that's what the casino is for.
see i can rock with that G

.  I usually just play blackjack since it's pretty straight forward, but I'm gonna have to start reading on craps unless someone wants to give me a basic run down

I am a Blackjack player... I play pretty basic never hit on bust cards depending on what I have. I like to bet big and sometimes I play two hands at times that can be good and bad.

I try to stay away from single deck black jack.

I'll try to give a basic rundown of craps on here for those of you who want to learn, but its a lot easier to learn from a friend while they play the actual game in a casino. Also, a great way to learn is to find an open craps table and have the dealers talk you through it. They'll be more than happy to teach you the basic bets, especially since they'll steer you away from the sucker bets. Just make you sure you tip them like any other game.

So the basic bet in Craps is the Pass Line bet. You'll make your first wager here (bear with me here since I rather not confuse people with the Don't Pass), as this is the basic bet on the craps table. On the come out roll (when the big button is set to "off," indicating that there isn't currently a point number), you get paid 1 to 1 on any 7 or 11, and lose your bet on a 2, 3, or 12, and then the process is repeated. However, if any other number comes up, that number becomes the point, and your pass line bet becomes a bet for that number.

At this point, you'll want to place odds behind that pass line bet. Placing odds is the best bet in the casino, as it offers no house edge. There are different payouts according to each number specifically for the odds bet. This bet is done by placing money behind your bet on the pass line, typically an increment of your original bet. You'd like to put as much as possible (assuming that you can easily afford it) as this minimizes the house edge on your game as a whole. You win this bet and the pass line bet if your point number comes up before 7.

The Come bet acts like a new Pass line bet for every roll. Same rules apply on your first time betting it as the pass line bet. When you establish a point for your come bet, you can add odds to that and make another come bet, thus giving you more numbers to play.

You can also make place bets, placing money on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, which pays a certain amount depending on the number every time it hits. Bet in increments of 6 on 6 or 8, and increments of 5 on 4, 5, 9, or 10.

The Field is another simple bet. You get paid 1 to 1 on a 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11, 2 to 1 on a 2, and 3 to 1 on a 12. You lose on any number not listed.

Basic etiquette things...
-Don't say seven. Ever.
-Keep your hands from dangling over the edge of the table.
-Don't take too long to set the dice up before you roll them, but don't let anyone rush you.
-Make sure to tip. Moreso in craps than any other game, dealers make the game pretty enjoyable. And their job is a lot harder in craps than it is for any other game.
-Don't forget to pick your money off the table each time you win, or else the money will play.

Basic slang...
-yo = eleven
-two-way = split the bet between your own bet and a portion as a tip for the dealer
-press = to increase in betting increment
-inside = placing bets on the 5, 6, 8, 9
-outside = placing bets on the 4, 5, 9, 10
-hard way = getting a pair (hard 4 would be two 2's). This is also a bet in the middle of the table.
-on the hop = a one-time bet, can be made for any combination of dice, paying 15 to 1 (or 30 to 1 on a hardway hop)

I don't mind asking any specific questions. Like I said, I just wanted to outline the basic bets, and leave some of the other bets out of it for now. Feel free to add more

Baccarat = bet on the dealer over and over. Slightly more likely that the dealer will win. If you want a game with coin flip chances, this is the best bet for you. Don't let people fool you into thinking that tracking player and dealer wins and losses is important to this game. Old people all believe in the Gambler's Fallacy.
