Unless you bid around 5k, I wouldn't count on winning them lol

Sure, does the average NTer have the ability to win one of those auctions? Probably not. But it isn't like they pushed these out to boutiques and threw a $1000 MSRP on them. All the proceeds go to a CHARITY to HELP PEOPLE. Listen, I'd like a pair of these as much as the next man. And I love BTTF as much as the next NTer. But seriously...how can anyone really be mad at how Nike is handling this release? I wish more companies would do stuff like this.

And not to mention, there have already been several nods to another release in 2015.

And if you really want a pair....bid on the damn auctions!

I will say that the lack of auto-lacing does kinda suck. Hopefully that will be in effect come 2015.
LOL, that's rich. Get real. That is a crock of #%@# and you know it.

Charity.

They could general release these and make a TON MORE for charity, I mean get real. Setup a percentage, ala Project Red with the iPods, Gap shirts, etc. That would make a dent for charity. This... This will make significantly less for charity. And yeah, I'm sure the production costs render it expensive to produce, so even making them slightly cheaper as a general release would do more good than harm. If Apple and GAP can do it, so can Nike. But hey, I'm just a thinker.

I know they're not obligated to donate anything, but if they really feel it's an urgent matter a guy like Parker or Phil Knight could easily have donated the equivalent of whatever these end up selling for to MJF's foundation. What they do with their money is their business but if their motivation for releasing them now is because they're finally "ready" and they want to raise money for charity asap, many of the folks at Nike could have afforded to donate a lot of money to the foundation quite some time ago. Perhaps they already have and if so then I'm in the wrong.
Tinker mentioned that one of the reasons he even started the project was the online petition, and yet the way they are releasing these makes it so that most of the people who signed that petition or sneakerheads that have coveted these for so long can't afford them due to the prohibitive cost. Why does Tinker think it's disingenuous to release them in bigger numbers at a later date? Are the people buying these shoes buying them because they like the shoes and want to support a good cause or are they doing it for the exclusivity? If they're buying them for the right reasons they shouldn't feel cheated or care if the average Joe buys a pair down the line.
I disagree.  Do you know how much frickin publicity MJF's foundation has received since this news?  It's all over everywhere.  Sneaker blogs, Yahoo, even ABC World News.  People texting me about THIS release that know I'm a sneakerhead but they don't give 2 damns about shoes.  I think the way they did it is great, although, it's a shame that some of the biggest sneaker enthusiasts won't be able to copp.  These shoes will be a STATUS symbol and that is all, as sucky as that may be.

THEY ASKED HIM IF THEY ARE GOING TO RE-RELEASE again. If he said yes or maybe.. than the prices wouldnt be as high. People will just wait.

Nice, but need power-lacing for me to really go all in.  This, taken directly from E-bay about power-lacing,Q: DO THE 2011 NIKE MAG SHOES POWER-LACE?
"No. For the power-lace feature you will have to wait until 2015."

I'm very happy with how low the numbers are so far. And before any of you say something smart, if you've ever collected anything limited and rare outside of sneakers, $4,000-5,000 is a good number for the first day, considering I was expecting some really, really big bids.

Hopefully by day 5-6, this will drop about $1,000

There is nothing to suggest you can't wear them but they did say that they don't recommend wearing when playing sports.
Q: WERE THE 2011 NIKE MAG SHOES USED IN THE FILM BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II?
The 2011 NIKE MAG shoes are movie prop replicas inspired by the Nike shoes appearing in the 1989 film Back to the Future Part II. The 2011 NIKE MAG shoes are not designed or intended for normal wear and use as footwear.

I don't know about the numbers getting low... this might get more publicity
and more steam as the days go on. I'm guessing better sales on day 2-5 and
then a decline in bids from then on...

To everyone who wants to know if this can be tax deductible then here is the IRS stance on charity auctions:

Donors who purchase items at a charity auction may claim a charitable contribution deduction for the excess of the purchase price paid for an item over its fair market value.  The donor must be able to show, however, that he or she knew that the value of the item was less than the amount paid.  For example, a charity may publish a catalog, given to each person who attends an auction, providing a good faith estimate of items that will be available for bidding.  Assuming the donor has no reason to doubt the accuracy of the published estimate, if he or she pays more than the published value, the difference between the amount paid and the published value may constitute a charitable contribution deduction.
