Racist Fraternity at the University of Oklahoma caught on tape.

The irony in all this? Singing about hanging n****** from the tree got them ou boys round the clock police protection yet black people protesting & chanting black lives matter got a lot of people thrown in jail...
America

At times like this, I'm glad ME662LLA has been banned.
People understand this concept in ever other instance unless it deals with black people. Then everyone gets selective amnesia.
I don't know why some people struggle so mightily to comprehend something so basic as consent and respect.

If a pervert gropes a woman on a subway train, nobody in their right mind is going to accept "but porn videos" as a valid defense, let alone "but my girlfriend lets me touch her that way."  There's an understanding that your "female friend" is not an authorized representative for ALL WOMEN GLOBALLY.

Consent is both limited and provisional.  If you allow someone you care about to call you by a pet name or touch you in an intimate way, that doesn't give them the right to do so in public, in front of your parents, if you're upset with them, etc. etc.

No logical person would go from that to "well, I assumed I could do that to you because my ex - who was the same gender - once gave me permission to do that with them", much less "I assumed I could do that to you because someone, somewhere consented to do so in a video."

If an adult entertainer chooses to participate in a film that caters to a particular type of sexual fantasy, there should be no delusion there about the representative quality of that decision - or about the nature of consent it entails.  The performer has made a limited, individual decision.

Does such a film's content speak more for the performer or for the audience?

Really, what's more representative:

a)  That a woman was at one time willing to participate in filming a pornographic movie in which she was portrayed as a submissive sexual object.

b)  That a seemingly limitless demand exists for content that presents women as submissive sexual objects.

The average consumer of rap music is a White male.  If an entertainer decides to record an album to cater to the "taboo fantasy" of "gangsta rap" because they know there's a huge market for it, that's less a defense of racism than a demonstration of it.

The success of "bum fights" videos does not depict the "innate violent proclivities" of homeless people, but the exploitation of desperate poverty by those seeking to capitalize on the violent appetites of their audience.

Sad and disgusting behavior but by this time next week the narrative will shift to how kids will be kids and how Black people use the word too. Two weeks later, the media will find a minority frat doing something less disgusting and disturbing but will nonetheless treat both issues as the same. Three weeks from now the dialogue will be about "black on black crime". One month from now, the racists on that video will get $20,000 from a gofundme after their supporters on stormfront raise money.

Wow. 2015 people...TWO THOUSAND AND FIFTEEN. We Have to do better than this. The greatest country in the world is also the worst country in the world at the same time when crap like this goes on. Serious up. Being a brown guy who was born and raised in the south, now at the age of 34...I've never experienced any sort of racism...ever. Even going to grade schools K-12 in rural NC with pretty much a 75%White, 20%Black, 5%Other demographics layout. This **** Has to stop. It does nothing but set this country back...

The "media" has already started blaming black people for the whole thing.
White kids get video taped on a bus chanting KKK songs, and somehow that leads to newspaper articles about black football players having altercations at bars and not getting expelled for it.

Not doubting you, but that's legit amazing if you've never experienced racism growing up in the south. I lived in a extremely liberal college town in Michigan and then Northern VA and I've experienced more than enough racism to last me a lifetime.

Minus whale post an article in here, famb..

And to my dude that said he never experienced racism...

Are you sure you just never KNOWINGLY experienced it... Because there is a difference

Both dudes are still set for life, likely. Yes this definitely is bad press for them, but this is America. It will go over and they'll be making 6 figures in a few years thanks to their family connects. Racism is never going away, in America people. Get used to it or get a passport. The history is TOO deep and strong. It's literally like aids, it can be controlled, to an extent for a period of time, but it never fully goes away.

That second link seems like a huge reach.
“The reason was I was offended, it wasn’t just because of the ad, no rational person would be offended because of maracas. It hasn’t been just about the symbols on the posters. The event in the past years, they have been dressed up as Mexican people, wearing ponchos and sombreros. I just didn’t understand, why race had to be a theme,” she told Campus Reform. “Race shouldn’t ever be a theme, would they sell Chinese food and wear Asian conical hats? I don't think race or ethnicity should ever be themes. These are very important to people.”

I know a lot of poor people in frats...

I for one do not agree with the suspension. What the said was disgusting, I can agree with that. But what Happened to free speech? To rob these kids of an education for their views or ideas seems unconstitutional. I believe the uni did this only to avoid the media attacking them further and it's not really deserving. U can't punish for speech. Ou may claim that they are punishing for disruption but it's not like they chose for this to go viral. I hope they overrule this expulsion. It would prob be a good decision for the kids to leave the school anyway for their own safety and sanity but that should be their decision. What are y'all's thoughts. One stupid action doesn't call for a stupid reaction. Fight fire with love

In a utopian society all would be forgiven, but in America people want blood, b.

Do I think they would actually go through with a lynching? No. Do I think they made these rhymes up? No. Do I think they have some inkling of racism in them? Absolutely. It may be subtle, but it's clearly there, along with the others that were singing along.

I'm talking about in their day to day interaction fam. Obviously not referring to the actions on the bus.

Of course they won't show their racism in day to day interactions. These cowards only express their true feelings in private. Don't be naive and say things like "they have an inkling of racism in them"

well when you have a confederate flag hanging in your Frat House, i think racism has to be somewhere in their day to day actions

And there you have it folks, it's always are fault no matter what the context is. I would also recommend staying away From the comment section, filled with hatred

What? Of course you can punish for speech.

Free speech doesn't mean there can't be consequences for what you say. It means you're free to say what you want, which these d-bags exercised on that bus. There's no law limiting one's rights to say "that" word.

If I walk into my supervisor's office and say "you're a ******* *******" and then I get fired, should I be upset about it? Of course not, because what I said was inappropriate, given the setting. I was free to say it, but that doesn't mean I'm free from the repercussions.

Also, there is a student code of conduct that every college student agrees to, whether they know it or not. So even if this was a genuine free speech issue, that goes out the window when you're a student on a college campus.

edit: btw, nobody was "robbed" of an education. Robbed implies that they're victims, which they're not. Actions have consequences, and they're learning that the hard way. Also, they're free to get an education elsewhere.
