40k salary for a job you like or 100k for a job you don't like?

Shooting off the hip, I would say the 40K, but.....how bad is the 100k job? What are the benefits? Whats sick/vacation time look like?

At certain point, you can use you off time to even out the bad job.

Life isnt supposed to be about working.

Ive worked jobs I hated for wayyyyy less than 100k.

I don't think I could ever lover a job working for somebody else but reality is that's what I'm going to do for the rest of my life. So my heart isn't with the work its with the money at this point.

I understand what your saying, and I'm working for somebody else currently. Your reality doesn't have to be reality if you
make the right choices.

id be fine with $40K in somewhere like Panama or something...matter of fact, i did see a job opening down there

Yea its like I wouldn't know what I would wanna do. What would I love doing? **** is stressful. Then it's a risk and I always played the better odds gambling. I got a family to support so that's a big risk to take when 40 something k isn't rich but it gets us by right now.

@illphillip

Congrats to you but it certainly is not the case for the majority. There is a saying that every Starbucks barista is an aspiring actor / actress around here. I had a spend numerous hours counseling and giving career advise to someone who graduated in the 90's with a major in Japanese because he loved manga. He finally found a job 3 years ago and is now in the the right track. There are ways to channel your passion and it doesn't have to be a career.

I would love the stats but 1/10000 probably make it if not a lot less. It's similar to restaurants, 75% or more fail within 2 years.

Ststa ain't that low, famb...

Becoming a multi millionaire, yeah...

But a chill little business... Attrition rate is in the 80s... Not 99.999%

Well, I can only speak for myself and the people I know. The majority of people I know and interact with seem very happy with their careers.

If we want to generalize the rest of the population, maybe "the majority" aren't even passionate enough about something to want to make it a career. Or willing to work hard enough to go get it. Or fall off when it doesn't happen as quickly as they'd like. I certainly know people that fit into that category as well.

My younger 1/2 bro is kind of like that. Didn't really have a passion for anything. Likes a little of this and that. Didn't finish college. He does collections in the medical field now (which his mother works in). Does well for himself but doesn't love it.

I been locked and loaded in a field I love since I graduated college. Interned for free when I was in college.

And for the record, I'm good with not being like the majority.

Pharmacist. Retail.

I got two pharmacist in my family. I mean school looked tough and paying off loans will take some time but man, both are making $110 or so. What's funny is both work at Walgreens and it's pretty much just like working a retail job but getting paid. Half of the BS in their job is customer service and it's definitely a pain sometimes since a lot of sketch people wall want to get those pills they don't really need.

Also salary can be good if you living situation isn't that crazy. If people are paying $1000+ just for rent, there is little room to save or even spend on luxury items. I think that is why a lot of the younger kids are still living at home where as my parents generation, they all had to move out early and just start adult life at a young age. I mean living at home can mess up your social life but it can allow you to work that $40K job and still have money to burn on things.

^ the money is good, but the job wears on your nerves and is degrading professionally. These large corporations have turned retail pharmacy into Mcdonald's with prescriptions.

100K after taxes could pay for 12 high level pornstars to shoot 12 scenes of a porn series I'd call "Whip It Out Chronicles" where I'd wear my NT fitted & invite these girls to a van sex session by whipping it out, hence the name.
After selling the rights to a big porn conglomerate, I'd quit my job, and continue shooting scenes.
LOL.  Will it be mosaic?

Whip it Out Chronicles, Vol. Mini Meats Only.

How to live on 40k? 100k not that much?  I don't know what warped sense of reality you guys are on but 40k is more than majority of the country and 100k puts you in the top 10% which means its more than 90% of Americans.  I know someone who has 6 kids and his wife doesn't work all living on his 60k income in the bay area.  Also there are plenty of people working 60 hours a week for 40k

So what's your point?

At least people work.

100k job isn't what it used to be.

It's like the new 75k job. Both pre-tax.

aint that the truth. im still driving my almost 15 yr old toyota truck that i hope lasts me another 15 yrs because i dont even wanna think about having to take on a car payment.

im convinced that i will never retire. i will work until i drop dead in my office. my only hope and dream is that i can set it up so that my kids can one day retire.
Repped. That's deep.
