Anyone Collect Sports Cards?

Are graded cards still a thing? I like to get a few hockey cards graded. Is it worth it? Some of my collection from the past.

lol of course have u been under a rock the past yr:lol:

they are in demand so much they are currently backed up i believe (the grading companies)

Yeap. I haven't bought any cards since the early 2000s. Buying those graded Jordan and Gretzky rookies were probably one of my last card purchases. And I think I paid around 400-500 each for those PSA 7s. That was what i could afford at the time. PSA 8 and 9 were out of my price range and will forever be unless i win the lottery or hit big at the casino.

phnrprman phnrprman o ok

yea the pandemic brought back the hobby and the grading companies got slammed

pokemon, all the sports

i had my old book of pokemon in the closet and theres a rare mewtwo I have worth dam near 2gs if its 10 graded

I just checked some of the prices for grading. Wtf! It's going to cost an arm and leg. I'm good. I'll keep my cards upgraded. I guess the only real reason to get a card graded is if I wanted a higher resell value. But who am I kidding i haven't resold anything in a long time. I think I have 5-6 UDA Gretzky jerseys in the closet that hasn't seen the light of day since I bought. I was planning on hanging them in the house but that never happened.

If i can ever get the high prices asked for the PSA 7 Jordan rookies. I will sell them in a heartbeat. I could start some nice home renovations with that cash. And keep my lowly BGS 6 rookie for the collection.

They raised price of grading at basically all service levels earlier this year. Yea, it's a ripoff at this point unless you have a guaranteed money card that will grade high

Anyone know if these Pokémon cards are worth picking up??

Low key happy to see people buying the "wrong" Pokemon elite trainer boxes. Funny part is there's a card that goes for around $200+ ungraded.

Also, PSA is backed up like a year or more for Pokémon cards. Idk if they separate the sports cards, but I think the last i looked they disabled everything but the $300 per card submissions and up.

damn. I’m trying to get my old Pokémon cards and some sports cards PSA grades to sell. Was trying to wait out the current delays but one year yikes.

gonna try looking into third party services I guess

You could debate going BGS but they grade hard and idk if the market value = PSA grades

I assume since PSA is the big name their grades will be easier to sell. I’ll look into it more.
Beckett as far as I know will sell for the same or maybe even more in the sports world.

PSA is the grail for Pokémon, mainly because PSA 9/10 are easier to achieve and the culture has deemed them as the grail / standard. Beckett is notorious for grading harder than PSA and CGC.

Sports cards, selling price graded I imagine goes:
Beckett -> PSA -> other

Pokémon cards, selling price graded I’ve seen goes:
PSA -> Beckett -> CGC -> Other

Can’t speak for Pokémon but for sports cards PSA is currently the gold standard and it has become harder to get a 10 from them. Beckett might have been the standard in the past but that isn’t the case anymore

Good to know, thanks for the info!

Damn PSA taking over everything.

I thought I heard somewhere that PSA recently got or is getting some high end tech to look at cards in hopes to speed up their turnaround times. I felt as though this will cause some variance between PSA cards graded prior to this tech vs after it’s implemented. Thoughts?

That thought made me shy away from PSA for now, but I’m not ruling out pushing my Lugia to them for grading should I ever decide to sell it and them still being top dollar.
