Apple Won.

All this Apple or iPad hate. I have one and it is awesome. who cares what you people say the device is a good one and is setting the tone for future devices in its category. With HTML 5 being pushed the way it is companies that want apps are being pulled away from flash. Even Adobe is worried that their regin in the industry is being challanged. So we will see how things go, but for now Apple has the best product in the feidl that the people can actually own , so they win.

What? I'm sorry, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I don't know why you highlighted and underlined that particular part of what I wrote. Reading comprehension is key. What I was saying is that it doesn't matter why a person buy's the iPad. What matters to the developer is that people are buying the iPad.

Please explain the part I highlighted. What exactly do you mean by reasoning? I'm saying I could see the iPad used to better share and help visualize information in those professions.
in your past replies you mention that the ipad will revolutionize certain fields.  i say not really because the ipad doesn't offer any new innovations to share information.

in the post i quoted you on, you speak on how marketing affects the products sales outcome.  i think marketing/advertising for ipad will work on people who are easily influenced, mainly young people who lack reasoning skills and buy whatever a commercial tells them is "cool".

professionals like doctors apply reasoning in their jobs.  these people don't lack reasoning/critical thinking and are not likely to be swayed to purchase a product based on advertising.  like others have said previously, doctors are already using laptops to communicate with their patients/colleagues therefore they have no need for a gimmick like the ipad.

and reading your replies i made an observation that leads me to believe you have a love affair with the ipad.  it is said that there is no reasoning involved when you fall in love with someone.  you just do.

i'd rather get a slate than an ipad at this point.

but honestly, the ipad will sell EVERY single competitor. and its the standard, since every device will be compared to it.

it doesnt matter if another device has better features or if it can do more. apple knows how to market its products. people feel more comfortable buying an apple product than an hp one or an acer one.

apple is after mainstream users who dont need advanced features. they want simple things. hp slate can easily intimidate people (even if its simple to use).

The ipad will dominate for the simply reason it's an ipad. Doesn't matter thats it's not as good as other products that are similar. Look at the ipods and you'll see the exact same thing. There are much better much cheaper mp3 players with vastly superior software or in many cases no need for specific software. Ipod kill in the market even tho they aren't very durable and itunes itself is an invasive monster. People buy name brands they are comfortable with. That's all it comes down too.

Oh my god, stop. Please. A love affair?

Okay, let me break it down for you.

1) I believe the iPad will revolutionize how we consume media because:
     - it has multi-touch capabilities
     - it has a lot of screen space, giving developers more room to develop applications for it

So yes, I believe the iPad will change how information is shared. Some have disagreed and that's fine. That's your opinion. What I know is that I've already seen a couple great examples of applications developed already so shortly after the release. The Alice video OP posted is just one interesting new way that information is being presented. One might scoff at how "useful" or "necessary" an interactive book may be but I feel it's a cool step towards a new direction in how we see and interact with digital things. It's not hologram technology, it's not some Star Wars/Minority Report/Avatar type of stuff but it's cool nonetheless.

2) Again, the bolded part of your quote, I am not disagreeing with you at all. What you fail to see is that it doesn't matter if those people are "young" or "easily influenced", what matters is that there are people buying the product. If people are consuming the product, developers are going to want to develop applications for the things people are using.

3) Are you a doctor? I hope to hell not because your ability to comprehend appears to border on the elementary. So you're saying a doctor would apply reasoning to their purchase. Would they then not go and test out the product first and see how well it works for them? Would they not try to consider how the available technology within the iPad could somehow be applied to applications for their field? I mean just on this page, there was an app that helped people better visualize the information about the various elements, would something like that but about diseases or viruses and things of that nature not be feasible? I'm saying the iPad can be a great tool to help communicate, to help visualize, and to just make things we can already do be even better. Also, I'm talking about tablets here, in particular the iPad. I understand laptops can do what iPads can do but I believe that tablets have an edge in information presentation and interaction.

4) Love affair
roll.gif
Like people can't just stand back and have an objective opinion on something. I don't own an iPad and won't until they implement a front facing camera among other things. It's not a perfect device right now and it's going to take a while for Apple to get it down right. For some reason, people put Apple on this pedestal and believe they're screwing their customers for not getting it right the first time. The iPad is a new platform and since when has the first incarnation of ANY new platform been perfect? I just see the potential in this device. That is all. Love affair

pretty much... its about how it makes you feel when you use it. people are attracted to it because Jobs and Ive do a good job of making their products beautiful. its a metal slate with a slab of glass on the front for god's sake and its so simple that people love it.

on another note... i think a lot of people are getting ease of use and stupidity mixed up with eachother. when you use a device, you want it to be like second nature, you dont want to have to think about each task you're going to do. at least i dont. i dont need to use a badly designed device to try to figure it out to feel smart.

since apple has become a major player in the past 3-4 years there has been a ton more hate. and i guess thats expected with just the sheer numbers they are putting up, they aren't the underdog anymore.

i guess apple knows it's demographic better than i do.

people that will buy anything as long as it looks cool. forget the fact that it can't run millions of websites. it's easy to use! it's pretty! Jobs told me this is the greatest thing since sliced bread so he must be right!

so what you're saying is that we are screwing ourselves from better products because we settle...so we can have a pretty product? i think that's pretty much right. apple basically recycled a product and made it bigger. and now people are eating it up, and it's "revolutionary"

would you believe me if i took it out of my sig? if someone had a team android or winmo sig i wouldn't discount what they would have to say. you should obviously know how i feel about the product from my response, not my sig. would it make you feel better if i said something complimentary to the courier?

1.  i agree, it's a cool toy to read comic books, children's picture books, etc... if you plan on reading the bible on this thing... good luck... you better hope your optometrist is using something other than an ipad to display your eye damage.

2.  agreed, developers will make applications for the most mainstream product out.

3.  exactly, elementary... ipad would be good for a child physician's trying to teach children about their health, bodies etc...  but i doubt an adult with chronic cancer would want a doctor shaking an ipad in front of them as they are slowly dying.  "oh look, 'doctor shakes ipad' this is how it spreads all throughout your body."

4.  i think it's a neat toy but it won't revolutionize any professional fields.  i see it like the 3-D trend in recent films... it's a neat novelty but it doesn't mean the film will be any good be good(ex. alice in wonderland).  and i LOL'ed at "love affair" too.  it's all in good fun, no disrespect.

I like how people say one thing is greater than the other when they most likely have touched either, one device for sure. I hope the slate is an awesome device that pushes the boundaries of the tablet, but let’s face it there are only 2 mainstream tablets in the market and the iPad is the winner so far. All this hate for a device that is in a new market. Like it or not it is the standard for the market.

Some of yall kill me with these close-minded outlooks on the iPad, it is a great device whether you like it or not. Sheep’s are buying it, but people who want to try something new are investing in it. It is backed by a strong company that has proven to make a product that the consumer can depend on. Most companies try to mimic what this company does. Lets state the facts, it never had a phone before and its first phone forever changed how we look at and use phones, its laptops are better (hardware wise) than most, its software is the blue print that other try to use. Windows 7 and Chrome are prime examples.

Just like Google came in and took on some major companies forever changing how we do things, Apple has done just the same. So give credit where it is due. I can care less whether you like the iPad, but give credit where it is due. If you haven't tried the device don't knock it and if you choose to rate a device with a device that is only in concept then others need not listen to you.

Will this revolutionize anything? It already has, the magazine industry, print media, professional fields, TV, games, man I am done I will let the future prove my point.

NOW THIS IS FOR THE HATERS WITH NOTHING BUT HATE TO SHARE

Good luck waiting on what ever device you are waiting on. You know the duel camera with no software written to accompany it, the battery life, the elite publishing rights that have yet to be obtained, the well established app market that doesn't exist, (for those who swear by windows) the zune market. Good luck WAITING on that to come out. Me I will enjoy playing Mirror's Edge, watching YouTube, checking Twitter, Facebook, and NT, downloading music, movies, apps, and books on my....

CWrite78, my arch nemesis of tech opinions. Is flash your arguement? I willing give up my access to flash usage on a device that is not meant to replace my laptop which I do use flash on. But I do this with the knowladge that there is this new technology called HTML 5 coming out that could bring the things that flash has to the device I use.

So NULL sir, NULL

but it's suppose to be the best web experience. so why would you give up flash?

enjoy your 5(or 10, w/e) mainstream websites that have adopted HTML5. experiencing the web in a new way! (limited, but still new!)

im still waiting on how print media (mags, newspapers and books) have been revolutionized by the ipad (and become successful) same with games (last i checked, we had portable games for YEARS.. so i dont see how that is being revolutionized by the ipad)

As for my stats, google homey, you and I have have been back and forth. You seem to be able to look up stuff on this concept device that has yet to come out , so finding info on this horrible device (iPad) shouldn't be hard. I believe there is enough info out there to prove that this new market that only Apple and whoever makes the Joojoo is in, Apple is dominate in and it is the game changer. Now if you excuse me I just downloaded the latest Slam magazine on my iPad and I would like to read it over breakfast.

No serious sent from my iPad, no flash needed to do this as well.

so what you're saying is that we are screwing ourselves from better products because we settle...so we can have a pretty product? i think that's pretty much right. apple basically recycled a product and made it bigger. and now people are eating it up, and it's "revolutionary"

Pretty much yeah. Apple does an INCREDIBLE job of making people think they need something or they will be left out of the loop. It's almost like a form of peer pressure. One of those if you're cool you'll have one type of things. They make what is usually an inferior product seem as tho it's the newest best thing out there and consumers eat it up. Then every few months they will remake it and the same thing will happen again. Lather rinse repeat. I am in no way an apple hater, far from it. They just often do things i can't fathom. Like that new ipod nano with NO buttons so your only volume control is on the cord with the earbuds the player comes with. Sounds cool until you realize your good headphones/earbuds are USELESS with it. Seriously, who the hell would use the crap earbuds it comes with? I am not saying the ipad isn't cool at all. It actually is but it is more of a toy in my opinion then a serious piece of hardware. The no flash thing is just idiotic though. You can't blame apple for cashing in tho, afterall if we didn't buy they wouldn't sell it.
