Seems in those countries with cities with great walkability/bikeability/excellent regular mass transit and safety also have the illest open country roads with less driving restrictions, and thriving car cultures so you could always meet that itch

Those countries are also homogenous and their car "culture" reflects that.

The mixture of vehicles and different styles/modifications to those vehicles in the US are what makes cars fun imo.

Politics is what's keeping things the way they are but corporations are what caused them in the first place and who control the politicians.

Not only is there too much traffic, wild fools, and very limited legal parking on the road, the transportation system gets packed, and you deal with street performers, homeless people, crazy people, beggars, detoured/delayed trains and buses and increases in the cost of riding. And if you're lucky you might catch Alp .
