I don't understand - He is on a comedy network, with a show that is purposely built to build satire around the political world and its media coverage. I don't think he necessarily plays down his influence, otherwise why would they have had the rally that was recently held? He definitely understands the demographic which he appeals to and plays to it.

If you ask me, I'd say that I watch for the laughs - the craziness of politics. If one is looking for the latter, then Bill Maher or someone else would be the a better choice - Politically Incorrect never had a chance to have a run as long as The Daily Show -- the reason being, it just wasn't funny.

Let's be real, they're both extremely smart people. I do, however, think Colbert is a better comedian and is much wittier. I was at a taping for one of his shows and he is incredible at improvising.

stewart is smarter imo, he grills a lot of his guests on real complex issues...
colbert is much funnier, as is his entire show. I cannot stand olivia munn as a reporter, and most of colberts interviews are much funnier than stewarts. i watch both shows nightly but when push comes to shove im on team colbert
