Could Christopher Nolan Be The Best To Ever Do It?

Not even close. A great filmmaker and a real visionary, but there are too many tremendous directors who have influenced, changed, and brought new things to film over decades of work. Nolan's approach and films are worthy of praise, but he hasn't done enough to be in the same discussion as Scorcese, Kubrick, Speilberg, Coppola, Hitchcock, and that's not even getting into the many great foreign directors.

Also, the fact that you brought Michael Bay up in the discussion nearly voids your opinion on films... Michael Bay shouldn't even be called a filmmaker or director.

you guys are getting way ahead of yourself, even watching inception you can point out Nolans flaws (very few but they were there)

he's amazing but he's not on scorcese's level, never

Best to ever do what? Why act like he has more than 7 movies since '98 or '99?

Dude has 2 great films (TDK and Inception) and two really good ones (BB and Memento), then work like Insomnia and The Prestige and a bunch of short films.

Lets be serious

This is just my take on what I think of these directors.  Obviously I'm missing lots of movies and even directors.  Also again, it's just my opinion.  But to me at this point Nolan is Tier3, borderline Tier2 right now.  He is nowhere near the list of Tier1 directors in my opinion.  But he is definitely proving that he has what it takes to get there one day.  So I guess what I'm saying is that he is essentially the Lebron James of directing.  People are starting to say he is one of the greatest but he isn't there yet.  Win a few championships, get some more solid stats and you can be mentioned with the greatest to ever make a movie.

Kubrick, Coppola, Scorsese, Speilberg, and these are just names coming off the top of my head. Could he, maybe but HIGHLY doubtful.

One thing that distinguishes Akira Kurosawa is that he didn't make a masterpiece or two masterpieces, he made, you know, eight masterpieces. - Francis Ford Coppola[sup]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_Kurosawa#cite_note-157[/sup]
