Engineering Majors?

My take:

If you want to study theory and narrow your field to become a specialist/subject matter expert, R&D guy, or PhD, go for MS

If you want to broaden your field and learn practical knowledge of industry to advance in a technical LOB, go for ME (technical mgmt, PM, SE)

If you want to transition to finance, consulting or marketing, get an MBA.

Just need to match up your career trajectory with which degree will most likely get you there. Best way to find this out is talk to alumni, any school worth considering will gladly connect you. Also, the MBA is widely misunderstood IMO.

And these are general rules of course

I think lots of engineers go for an MBA to "move up"

While that does work in some cases, to me the MBA is Better to "move out"

In the sense that you use it to leave engineering entirely and become a finance guy, strategy guy, etc

Lots of knowledge gained from any worthwhile MBA would be wasted if you just want to be an engineer in manager or director IMO

Either way, MBA will never hurt you (obv), but think they are largely misused/under utilized

Not only online though. EP can be done on campus also, which is how I do it. 

You can do hybrid as well, online and on campus.

@GetYaShinebox  that's exactly why I went with the MS in Systems Eng w/ Project Management focus. I want to move into the technical management/PM roles,

and if I do get my MBA I want to move out of the technical side entirely.

Has anybody major in Architectural Engineering in here . Transferring after my AA this summer . The only school Thats offering this is UM
 
Hey everyone, anyone got updates?

I am trying to take the FE Exam but kinda scared. I took it once and felt like I at least got 50% but I did not pass. I need to take it again. Anybody have the feeling when they took FE Exam, that its harder than people say?

You'll get different responses from people but all I can say is prep as much as you can and get a good nights rest the day before. Get familiar with the Electronic manual that you can use on test day as well. Looking back, I don't think the test was that hard.

On Co-op this semester. I dig the break from school
 
I'm an EE major. Only have two semesters after this one, and two more co-ops. Here at UC it's mandatory to co-op 5 times. I really enjoy the co-oping and most of the time it leads to a full time offer.
This semester compared to my previous two is a breeze. Almost scared because of how little time I'm investing compared to previous semesters lol.

^most programs are designed to weed students out sophomore year, at latest first semester junior year. You should be gravy, just apply yourself and enroll in electives that appeal to your technical/career interests.

Started MBA a little while ago, about 10% of the class is engineers, first quant course is stats and we clearly have a significant advantage :pimp:

I think it's great that they make you Co-op that much. Very beneficial even just being in that setting and absorbing things.
 
I took the FE 3 times before I passed. It was the third time that I actually dedicated time to study and prepare myself. That time I felt better about it than the previous two.

I wouldn't worry so much about covering all of the subjects. Not sure how it is now, but I barely covered and circuits or thermodynamics ( I'm a civil engineer). I just focused on what I knew most and that seemed to be enough.
 
currently taking Calc 1, Chem 1 and Phys 1.
4weeks into the semester and still struggling to get by in chem and phys.
broke as hell and unemployment of MA put a hold on my payments because im a full time student :smh: also got bills to pay

how did some of yall make money while having that engineering block?
who here is good with chem and physics and can help me out with some homework? srs. just need help with understanding the material more. Khan Academy videos kinda help :rolleyes
 
seriously...im using it for all 3 courses. my calc 1 professor sucks and this is his first semester teaching it in many years.

Projectile Motion:
A kid fires a squirt gun horizontally from 2.1 m above the ground. It hits another kid 1.9 m away square in the back, 0.98 m above the ground.
What was the water's initial speed?

i know the answer is in m/s but i just cant approach the problem when i draw a picture. im assuming Initial positon of the y-component is at 2.1m. Final position of the y-component is 9.8m and final position of the x-component is 1.9m.
 
Use the y components and the assumption of earths gravity to determine the time "t" the water traveled for. Then once you know the time, use the x components to determine the velocity.

You'll need to use the equations of motion.

When doing these word problems start off by determining what you're looking for and the equation that will give it to you. Then work backwards and use the extra information given to fill In unknown variables.
 
I worked at Walmart about 20-30 hours my freshman and sophomore year, up until I co-oped. Didn't exactly pay well, but gave me some extra cash to help with living.
I was terrible at physics 1. If it wasn't for a great curve I would have prolly flunked. I went to a terrible high school that didn't even offer a physics class so everything was so new lol. Glad that's over.
All calcs I excelled in tho, think I got A's in all three.
Keep grinding, things will eventually start to click. Just takes a little time for some classes.
 
My story was the literally the opposite. I took physics and high school and barely had to try in college. I actually failed calculus in college.
 
Hey guys, I am trying to study for the Fe exam other disciplines and need some help finding thermodyanmics, chemistry, and circuit sample problems. Can anybody help?
