OFFICIAL 2019 COLLEGE FOOTBALL OFFSEASON THREAD

UF team looked like clowns going after Steele like that. Grimes especially given that he transferred from OSU himself.

The greatest coach in Michigan history has gone to one of the worst organization in sports to work for and be fired in 3 years by a Sparty.

Fisher > Beilein

I appreciate everything Coach B did for the program tho, and hold no hard feelings for him leaving.

Just passing on some info. This is the scoop from Scott Schrader, who we know is extremely tight with Steele. Practically family:

USC doesnt have a scholarship to give but might get one opened up by June 5th or maybe sooner. But because of it, Steele is antsy because he might miss out on other opportunities if that said scholarship doesnt open up on June 5th or sooner. Other programs also don't have a scholarships available but some big time school said they can open one up. Scott said Steele told him "its a no brainer he would go to USC" if the scholarship was available. Bama, ND, Oklahoma Clemson and some other Pac 12's are calling him. He's going to UCLA this weekend but not visit any of the other schools.

Side note, not to downplay how gross a human being Jalon Jones appears to be, because he is allegedly very very gross, but it looks like Chris Steele was working on leaving UF before the incidents in question. He was homesick and he and his roommate Jadon Hill didn’t get along with a bunch of guys on the team, especially their 3rd roommate Jones, and it looks like his name being dragged into the sexual assault investigation gave him justification

Oregon isn't all over Steele?

From what I've seen Schrader's info is accurate. SC is going to reclassify JT to 2018. Stanford is working to open up a scholly for him and his parents are refusing to let him go to school off the west coast. dacomeup dacomeup Oregon is all over him and he wants to go there but his parents right now are saying absolutely not. They were right about UF so its kind of a "told you so" situation. They're at 86 scholarships so they need to encourage 2 transfers or pull 2 schollys before they can even fit him.

SC summer classes start I think May 15 (and is summer 2 in June?) so they have until then, but Oregon Summer doesn't start til mid-late June so if he was to go there (his first choice) he'd have to sit and wait for them even longer than he'd have to wait on SC.

He was definitely looking on leaving regardless. This gives him the leverage on getting the waiver, though.

man, if we don't get Steele because we gave scholarships to marginal guys like Nomura, Jayden Williams and Livai, I'm gonna be hotter

Ironically those are 3 guys that writers are high on. The marginal guy is dude from Washington, Trey Davis, but even then he's tall, fast, and you bring him on to try to open doors to his region and 7on7 team which has a ton of kids this year and next.

To quote a good 247 poster on the DB signing and Steele:

Let's look at our DB situation prior to signing day:

IPM - Injured - 2nd straight year he's needed shoulder surgery
OG - Injured
Greg Johnson - Injured - Also 2nd straight year he's need shoulder surgery
Dominic Davis - Coming of a position change and it would be the end of his 1st year playing DB
Hufunga - Injured
Chase Williams
ITS
CJ Pollard - Injured

Now here are the DBs we signed:
Max Williams - Injured - Redshirt candidate
Trey Davis - Injured - Redshirt candidate
Briton Allen
Adonis Otey
Jaylon Watson
Jayden Williams
Kaulana Makaula
Dorian Hewitt

So... Going into fall camp, 7 out of the 16 would be coming off of injuries. 3 of our projected starter were lost to season ending injuries last year, and of those 3, 2 of them were lost to season ending injuries for the past 2 years in a row. 2 of our signees are question marks on whether they'd even be able to contribute this year at all.

That essentially leaves us with 14 DBs in a defense that utilizes 5 DBs at a time. Of those 14, 2 haven't been able to make it through a complete season and 3 are coming off of injuries that would keep them out of Spring ball. Nothing against IPM or Greg Johnson, but I think it's reasonable to assume at this point that there's a high probability those shoulder injuries might cause them to miss more games throughout the season... If you include Hufunga in that due to his collarbone being re-broken during Spring Camp, that could mean at any given time during next season we might only have 10-12 DBs available to play. Which really only gives us 2 deep at that position.

As for the statement that we were taking low 3 stars that no one else wanted, here's a list of our 3-stars that we took:

Trey Davis
Dorian Hewitt
Briton Allen
Adonis Otey
Jayden Williams
Jaylen Watson
Kaulana Makaula

Of those, Jayden Williams was recruited hard by Washington and Oregon. Briton Allen by all accounts was underrated and that was seen during spring. Adonis Otey we flipped from Arkansas. Makaula really impressed most scouts during the Poly Bowl against top tier WRs that were there.

So the only real reaches were Trey Davis, Jaylen Watson, and Dorian Hewitt. And of those reaches Jaylen Watson probably has the most college ready body. And Dorian Hewitt was the leader in the secondary for the Texas high school champs.

Is this a great DB haul? Absolutely not. There's probably 1 or 2 superstars in this bunch and probably a majority will be reserves for their college careers. But SC needed bodies and they couldn't rely on a 4 or 5 star prospect that MIGHT be available at the end of Spring Camp or prior to Fall camp.

tl;dr prior to signing day we had 8 scholarship DBs and 5 of them had season ending injuries. We signed 8 new DBs, which means 7 of the 16 scholarship DBs going into 2019 fall camp will be returning from or still out due to injury.

We just needed bodies. We couldn't sit and pray that someone would de-commit and try to transfer in. And even then they held a scholarship open when they thought they could get Ricks.

I think Jayden has a chance because he can get bigger but in my opinion, Nomura and Livai will be busts.

High was maybe too favorable wording for Nomura and Livai. Writers think Jayden williams will be really good. Nomura they think will be a contributor and they needed that Centennial pipeline. Livia was necessary because they desperately needed to get into Narbonne, but still 300 lbs coming out of high school and still growing -- they needed O line bad.

Was it a money thing? Or did he just wanna coach at the next level?

The latter.

If he wanted to pull a Sexton and use it as leverage for more money they would have paid him. I think he just wants to coach basketball now, and not deal with any of the drama comes with being a high major CBB coach.

That’s not a surprise. Mullen moves him from MS to Fla with plans to go back to 2020 class but word was he was too old. Great athlete though but there were times where his teachers wouldn’t see him for weeks at a time smh.

GT from Troy with two years of eligibility.

Is Terry Wilson going to lose his job?

5* 2021 kid.
