~Official Incoming College Freshmen Tips~

Leave the car at home, some universities wont allow freshman residing on campus to bring a car. If thats the case 9 times out of 10, you wont even miss it,especially if you are attending a school in a city with an extensive Metro/Bus System.

If your school allows freshman residing on campus to bring a car, check with the University Police as far as getting the parking permit ($20-$250 at someschools) and a map of where you are allowed to park.

IMO if you absolutely dont need to, leave it home.

The first day we moved my brother in at Howard last yr everyone on his floor introduced themselves. Its a great way to make friends, try doing that.

Also, since this is NT, has anybody ever tried to live in a dorm with all their kicks or did they only take a few pairs, how did that work out?

School comes first.

You don't want to spend all of college trying to catch up because you were lazy in the easiest classes.

If you're coming in with a close group of friends from high school, that's great. But do not just sit back and not branch out. You need to takeadvantage of meeting as many new people as possible. You never know what could happen with your old friends, and before you know it you're alone. Thingschange, people change, things happen, so don't count on your old friends 100% to always be there, they want to meet new people too.

Meet as many girls as possible, it gets harder the further along you go through school.

First year in the dorms is a unique experience, won't go through anything like that again most likely. It's going to be a fun experience and sometimesyou'll take it for granted and just say "I can't wait to be out of here" but don't.. appreciate it for what it is, a chance to learn andgrow and meet new people.

I'm a junior now and I can't believe college is half over. Freshman year was a lot of fun, not a whole lot of expectations, easy classes, new people, new experiences.

Don't be afraid, everyone there is going through the same thing you are, it takes some adjustment, but you'll live.

Don't bring all your shoes. I made the big mistake of bringing 20+ pairs of heat and it was a b trying to find space for it.

Don't be shy, go to office hours. Sometimes professors give hints on midterm/final questions and prompts.

SMH, I should be following my own advice.

And most importantly, make friends outside your hall. You don't want to be that guy that everyone just knows inside the hall playing wow or in the halllounge 24/7.

I just got my dorm assignment...

I'm in a big room with 9 other dudes....

More than anything else
Do Well in class
make a 3.5 or higher

Don't steal the girls upper classmen have reserved already. Matter of fact, just stick with the ugly girls because all the good ones are reserved already.

It's really not that hard making it to class and you'll probably face few perdicitments in which you're unable to attend class. As others in herehave said you'll really want to do your best with meeting as many people as possible within the first couple of weeks. Oh and if you find yourself at asorority formal, don't tell your date that you've been hooking up with her friend because she's pissing you off.

tip 1: log out of NT
tip 2: use your dorm room to sleep, study, and smash...don't just chill in there...get out and meet people
tip 3: dont get caught up with hanging with one group of people right at the start...your first semester is a great time to meet tons of people. don'tlimit your social circle.
tip 4: actually do the work. don't fall behind. if you stay on top of stuff, you can easily go out 4 or 5 nights a week and keep your grades up...not tosound like your mom, but remember why you're there.

PACK LIGHT if you're in the dorms.

It's easier to put the %#!@ IN the room than it is to take it out.

It's all fun and games when you're setting up but that is clearly not yourbachelor/bachelorette pad. Seems like SRS business when you first move in because you feel like you should have a nice looking room I *+!%!+% hated move outday. Packing, FTL.

11. Have at least one nice thing to wear. "You never know if you're going to end up at a little semi or a Greek event." Though I recommend avoiding Greek everything if possible.

Stopped Reading There. dude doesn't give any reasoning at all for why Fraternities and Sororities are such "Bad Organizations", yet he speaks alot on networking

. Greek life isn't close to being all aboutnetworking, but it seems like this dude is just against greek life to be against it.

As a rising Sophomore, my advice to you freshmen is as follows:
Participate in rush, get to know the school during orientation, and decide if you fit into your schools greek system. Would I have gone Greek anywhere? $#%$no. A lot of schools have Greek systems that I could never see myself being a part of. But, at the school I ended up at I did join a frat and it was probablythe best decision of my freshman year. Greek life isn't for everyone, but it is not worth ruling it out just because of stereotypes. If you find a housewhere you feel comfortable, I would highly recommend going through the pledge process and joining that house.

I'll try to think of some more stuff to add to this later. If anyone has any questions feel free to post them or PM me.
