Official Pizza Appreciation!

Pizza from Pizza Twist in Hillside, Queens & pastries from Oasis Cafe in Flushing, Queens. Plain pizza was pretty trash but the other ones were solid.

No square cut?

i love square cut but always forget to ask for it or never realize a place does it until its too late

No square cut?
Damn I didn't even think of asking for that. If I ever go back I'll make sure to ask if they have that option.
Glen Oaks? Haha. Crazy to see. I grew up around there.
Nice! Good 'ole Glen Oaks, yup. It's changed a lot over the years. A lot of the OG businesses are long gone.
Looks like Dominuts.
It def does, good eye. Same cornmeal crust as them too. This place was kind of expensive & now worth it imo. The 14" pies I got are their "large" priced at $22 & their 16" XL is a whopping $29 :smh:. I can go to an actual pizzeria & get me an 18 inch-er for like $20, lol, never again.

What's changed about it in your opinion? I grew up in the Floral Park/Bellerose/Glen Oaks area.

Man, still trying to figure out what makes that Pizza Chicago Style😂🤔. No tavern cuts, no cracker crust, and the crust is completely visible.

Lol, yeah there's absolutely nothing about it that makes it even a little Chicago style. I guess that's the best name they could come up with given their limited creativity .

Does Chicago identify more with tavern style or deep dish for pizza? I'm going to guess deep dish for sure.

Population boom, cost of living & property prices have nearly doubled. There's a lot of strip malls in Glen Oaks now compared to back in the day.

Both. Most Chicagoans eat more tavern style than Deep Dish. There's just far more taverns style joints around. But we're more famous for Deep Dish outside Chicago.

The tavern style started in the Southside at Vito & Nicks (father/son) which opened as a speakeasy during prohibition in the 1920's. In the 40's Nick asked his mother from Sicily (Vito's wife) if she could make super thin Pizzas and cut them in squares so people at the bar could share. It was meant to keep the customers thirsty and make a little extra dough from the Pizzas. Eventually other taverns followed and it became a thing.

I think I'm gonna head over there tonight for dinner. It's been a min and I haven't had Pizza in a couple weeks.

i been bugging walkingBred walkingBred and checks mcgee checks mcgee about chicago pizza and def gonna try tavern style. i've always went deep dish every other time i was there but def doing tavern style this time. but also lou's just cause i love lou's
Lou's makes tavern style too. It's good, but not my favorite. Not as crispy as I like it. If you can head out to Vito & Nicks I give you mad props. It's just really good pizza.

People are saying this is the new spot on LI.

It’s connected to and run by Root & Branch Brewing, which is one of the best breweries in the country. I’m inclined to believe the pizza is worth the hype if they’re putting as much love into it as they do the beers:
