Damn shame....Dude shoulda just went to Wake

EDIT - Thought you were talking about Hickson from NCSU....Dude who plays basketball.....he's a beast......But as for your boy???

Police arrested football player Cedric Denard Hickman, 21, of 2717 Western Boulevard, Raleigh, and wrestler Christopher Allen Sutton, 19, of Wilmington on five counts of breaking and entering motor vehicles and five counts of larceny.

Hickman, a fullback from Winston-Salem, was being held in the Wake County jail this morning in lieu of $50,000 cash bond. Sutton was released under $51,500 bond.

Someone called 911 about 3:15 a.m. Monday and reported seeing two people looking into vehicles in the 1300 block of Seabrook Avenue, Cary Police Capt. Dave Wulff said. Police went to the area and found Hickman and Sutton, Wulff said. Sutton tried to flee from the officers, according to court records.

Police accused Hickman and Sutton of breaking into cars on Greenwood Circle, Seth Court and Riverton Place. They are charged with taking country and western compact discs, credit cards and other items of value.

Annabelle Myers, NCSU assistant athletics director for media relations, said both athletes had been suspended indefinitely. Myers said football coach Tom O'Brien and wrestling coach Carter Jordan would have no comment.
Mauk Denied Request for Sixth Year
BCL Wire Services

Talk about it in BearKatz Blog
CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati quarterback Ben Mauk had his application for a sixth year of eligibility denied by the NCAA, UC head football coach Brian Kelly announced today.

Celebrating Ben Mauk

Now that Ben Mauk will no longer wear the red and black for Cincinnati we though it would be a fitting to take a look back at Mauk's career as a Bearcat.. Check out this Photo Gallery featuring Ben Mauk as a Bearcat..

The NCAA staff denied Mauk's application for an extension of eligibility based on NCAA Bylaw 30.6.1.2 that states that a redshirt year is considered within the control of the student-athlete and/or institution and does not constitute a missed participation opportunity. In January of 2008, Mauk attempted to regain the year he lost in 2003 when he sat out the season at Wake Forest University. Although the redshirt season occurred four seasons ago, Mauk was not able to apply for the additional year until the completion of his normal eligibility.

A native of Kenton, Ohio, Mauk spent four years at Wake Forest from 2003-06, before graduating and transferring to Cincinnati for the 2007-08 academic year. He sat out the 2003 season as a redshirt and played in 18 games for the Demon Deacons from 2004-06.

The NCAA allows student-athletes five years, or 15 quarters, to complete their four years of eligibility. According to the NCAA, Mauk's application did not meet the criteria for the five-year/15-quarter waiver.

The starting quarterback at the beginning of Wake Forest's ACC Championship season in 2006, he completed 14-of-21 passes for 105 yards and a touchdown before suffering a season-ending injury vs. Syracuse. Mauk tossed four touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 18 games, over three seasons at WFU.

The NCAA determined that the fall of 2006 was a season in which he was deprived of a participation opportunity and was clearly supported by medical documentation. Mauk's 2003 season did not meet the waiver criteria set forth in the legislation for a sixth year.

"Situations like this are hard when I know how dedicated Ben's life has been to football," Kelly said. "It's unfortunate, but all things considered, he will handle this and continue his career in football whether it be playing or coaching. He will always be a member of the Bearcats."

Mauk played in 12 of 13 games in a Cincinnati uniform during the 2007 season, and set a program record with 31 passing touchdowns. As the head of the UC offense, Mauk helped established school season records for scoring (472 points), touchdowns (63), and passing touchdowns (36).

After leading UC to a No. 17 final Associated Press ranking and a 10-3 finish, that included a victory in the Papajohns.com Bowl, the graduate-transfer ended the year completing 235-of-386 passes (60.9 percent) for 3,121 yards through the air and found himself 11th in the nation in passing efficiency (1 50.64).

Wake Forest University supported the extension of eligibility being granted for Mauk and corroborated the information submitted to the NCAA.

Mauk earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education from Wake Forest University in May of 2007. He continues to pursue a master's degree, in criminal justice at the University of Cincinnati.

The Bearcats were one of two NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision programs to finish in the Top 25 and graduate better than 80 percent of their football playing student-athletes last season.
Florida State puts itself on probation
Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State's sports teams will be on self-imposed probation for two years and some will lose scholarships because of an academic cheating scandal, the university said in a report released Thursday.

About 60 student-athletes also have or will suffer some loss of eligibility. Two staffers, a tutor and learning specialist, already had been fired. No additional dismissals were listed in the investigatory report.

The cheating occurred mainly through online testing for a single course in the fall of 2006 and the spring and summer semesters last year.

Florida State officials conducted the investigation with assistance from the NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference and a consulting firm. The report has been sent to the NCAA, which can still conduct its own investigation and impose additional penalties.

Among the corrective actions listed in the report is a requirement for all athletics staff members to attend a four-hour training program titled "Decision-Making in the NCAA Compliance Environment."

"We believe that our investigation has been thorough and exhaustive," said Florida State provost Larry Abele, who chaired the investigating committee. "This university and its Athletics Department have accepted responsibility, made changes in the process and systems and imposed penalties as warranted."

A school spokesman was not immediately able to explain how the probation, effective Wednesday, would affect the teams.

The NCAA's Student-Athlete Reinstatement staff, though, has agreed to a 30 percent across-the-board loss of eligibility for students who came forward and admitted they received improper help with the test.

Some of the penalties already have gone into effect. About two dozen of the football team's top players were suspended for the Music City Bowl on Dec. 31 in Nashville, Tenn., where the Seminoles lost to Kentucky. Many of those players will remain suspended for the first three games of the 2008 season.

The school also is making changes at five senior staff levels in the athletic department, though the report did not include details on the changes.

Former athletic director Dave Hart Jr. departed late last year with a year still left on his contract, but he denied it had anything to do with the cheating scandal. Last week, the school hired former Utah State athletic director Randy Spetman.

USC is blacking out the Galen Center (basketball) on Sunday against UCLA. Rumor is the response they receive on Sunday will influence whether SC debuts ablacked out 3rd jersey for football next season. Total rumor, but interesting to think about.
Marcus Ball contemplates moving to safety
Gene Williams
Warchant.com Staff

549905.jpg

If there is a position that never seems to have enough depth it's safety. And now with the graduation of two-year starter Roger Williams, there is botha lack of depth and experience.

This past signing class, FSU signed New Jersey athlete Ed Imeokparia, who will likely play safety, but it's unlikely he will beready to contribute in year one. Also, safety signee Travis Arnold from Madison County (FL) will probably not qualify meaning therewon't be many bodies at safety this season.

To help the depth crisis, a current player is ready and willing to make the switch, and if it happens he should be in a position to provide immediate help.

"It's a possibility," sophomore Marcus Ballsaid of making the switch from linebacker to safety. "We've talked about it and had a couple discussions. It's in my thoughts but it's not thetime of year to make any permanent changes."

He says those changes, if they will take place, will occur after he meets with the defensive coaches before the start of spring practice.

Not only is Ball already familiar with Mickey Andrews' defensive scheme, which should give him a leg up if he moves to safety, he already has plenty ofexperience at the position. The former Rivals100 member lined up at safety over the last year and a half of his high school career. As a full-time safetyduring his senior season, Ball recorded 150 tackles and had three interceptions.

So how does he feel he would fit in at safety at Florida State?

"Perfectly might be an understatement," Ball said. "It's all about in the scheme of the defense and I feel I would fit in good. I feel Ihave the attributes that a very good safety has -- the agility, the size, the mind and knowing the game a little bit."

In high school, Ball played strong safety and believes that would be his most likely destination were he to make the switch at FSU.

"Probably strong more than likely but sometimes strong and free share the same jobs," he said. "It really doesn't matter but I would thinkstrong."

And at 6-foot and 215-pounds, Ball has the build for a strong safety (rover) in Mickey Andrews' defense. But if that happens there will be some stiffcompetition for playing time. Over the past two years, MyronRolle has been a fixture in the secondary starting 23 total games at rover. Nevertheless, Ball doesn't see that as an issue and if he makes the move, will do everything possible to win the job.

"The coaches tell us every day, nobody is set in stone as for who is starting," Ball said. "I'm a competitor, I complete, so it doesn'tmatter who is out there I'm going to do what is best for the team. I'm not trying to step on any toes but I'm just going to compete with whoever. Idon't care if Deion is out there I'm going to try to out-run him."

Ball says he's perfectly content to play wherever the coaches feel he can best help the team. That being said, the speedy athlete believes moving to thesecondary would be in both his best interest and the best interests of the team.

"It's mostly what I thought and what I feel is best for me," he said. "There have been some whispers around (about the move) but I just hearthe whispers and I don't go off the whispers. It was always in the back of my mind to make the decision and make the move. We'll see how it works outafter mat drills."

Because he was coming off ACL surgery, Ball's playing time was somewhat limited last season, especially early on. Nevertheless, he still played in ninegames and recorded 24 tackles (1.5 for loss), 1 sack and 3 pass break-ups.

Yeah....I read that ##++ yesterday but I forgot to post it....

Yo, the ##++ is nuts....

These FSU guys are all on Myron's Nuts son.....

Talking bout he got Low 4.4. speed....Because he walked down Graig Cooper.....Who according to them is a 4.4 runner...

Never mind the fact that Graig ain't seeing NO PARTS of a 4.4...More like a 4.6....

Its like, he can do no wrong to some people....

I mean, he's a great story and all.....But he hasn't produced ##++ on the field.....

And Marcus is a BEAST and I think he will snatch his spot eventually......If for only the fact that he will PUNISH recievers....Something that Myron lookslike he should be able to do but never has.....When he returns, he should at least be the 2nd Rover...

But he suspended for the first 3 games....

Only way Marcus Going to the league anyway is @ S......Nobody wants a 210 pound LB in the NFL

I just wanna see my dude on the field....somewhere.....Because he is a MONSTER when healthy.....

I think the move for Jaime Robinson to FS will be a good one....He can roam and play a more CF like safety...Like Reggie Nelson @ UFaG.....Dude just doesn;thave the fluid hips necessary for CB.....

Whatever the case.....We need SOMEBODY...Anthony Leon.....Kenny Ingram....Myron.....IDGAF who it is.....to step up at BOTH the S positions...

Then these people suggest that Myron will be better @ LB...But if he don't tackle @ S....How will he do @ LB???? Not to mention the fact that he will haveto shed blocks....

Or......That he should go from Rover to Free

Council charged with armed robbery

University of Louisville cornerback Rod Council was dismissed from the football program today after he was arrested in connection with an armed robbery in his native North Carolina.

Council was being held Wedneday in the Haywood County (N.C.) Detention Center on $50,000 bond for a charge of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

According to a story on the Asheville (N.C) Citizen-Times Web site, Council is accused of robbing the Time Out Market in Jonathan Creek around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The story quotes the Haywood County Sheriff's Department report as saying a suspect entered the store, pulled "what looked to be a 9 mm Uzi" on the clerk and demanded all the business's money and the clerk's cell phone.

The report also said the store's security cameras filmed the suspect leaving in a silver Chevrolet Impala.

Tennessee State Highway Patrol officers later arrested a suspect matching the description at a rest area off Interstate 40 and brought him back to Haywood County, according to the paper.

Haywood County sheriff's detectives did not return phone messages last night, but Council was the only detainee in the county jail who was booked on a robbery charge.

U of L head football coach Steve Kragthorpe dismissed Council from the team yesterday after learning the news and issued a statement on the matter.

"We do not tolerate that type of behavior in our football program," Kragthorpe said in the statement. "Fortunately, no innocent bystanders were injured or harmed in the process."

Council, who would have been a senior this upcoming season, was Louisville's best cornerback in 2007. He led the team with two interceptions and had 32 tackles in 12 games.

But this isn't the first time he has faced legal trouble. In fact, Council ended up at U of L because he was arrested and charged with two felonies as a senior at West Charlotte (N.C.) High School in 2004.

Less than a week before he was supposed to sign a letter-of-intent to play for Virginia Tech, Council and an accomplice broke into the school's media center and stole $16,000 worth of computer equipment.

According to police reports at the time, police captured Council after he jumped out of a car and ran; the accomplice was never identified.

Council completed a diversionary program for first-time offenders, and the charges were deleted from his record. But he was expelled and had to finish his senior year at an alternative high school, while Virginia Tech declined to honor its scholarship offer.

He started 11 games for the Cardinals as a true freshman in 2005 and was hampered by injuries as a sophomore. In an interview with The Courier-Journal last summer, Council talked about his past and insisted he had turned his life around.

"I've learned to stay focused," he said. "Whatever is going on in my outside life, I have to leave it outside and come to work every day. I think I'm on the right path now."

Council had not encountered any further legal trouble at U of L prior to yesterday, but he was suspended one game last season for an unspecified violation of team rules.
