The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Price check - used Canon 7D body only for $1100 off CL? My next question would be which lens is reccomended?

I've been shooting with a Nikon D90 which I plan to sell but I've been wanting to switch over to a Canon camera.

^heavily used? everything working properly? did a quick ebay price check, $1100 sounds reasonable imo. i know burstmode uses a 7d, great cam. i think lens selection is all preference. i like wide angle stuff so the 24l is prob my favorite. i love bokeh too so the 135l is another

did a spontaneous day trip over to new orleans this wkend...i found myself using my iphone more than my dslr :shrug i think i was more into just getting into the environment and enjoying it, rather than making photog the priority...

iphone 4 + apps: iris, picture show, hipstamatic

^just goes to show though that the equipment isn't the most important thing, it doesnt make a great pic but your eye and creativity is... I've seen some amazing photos taken with the iPhone. Are you on Instagram? @jaydistrict

As for the used 7D, the seller claims it's practically new... I've had success buying off CL but I feel some sort of way buying dslr equipment off there, specially when you can check actuation counts. My other option is to take my $1100 plus a little more and maybe get a more "entry level" Canon but new like a 60D with kit or T3i and save some $. My main reason for switching is the colors the Canon produces, the video recording being much better then the D90... sure if I get the T3i it isn't a monster cam like a D90. But I'm ok with that, I'm not a pro and mainly use it to shoot my kid and travel. Any more suggestions or opinion would be appreciated it.

Get the 7D. That camera is the best crop frame camera in the market right now before getting into the 5D territory. Not only is it better then the 60D, it's built way better also. I would get that too but I am sold on just saving for a full frame.

And anyone juiced on what Nikon will unveil this week? I think there are two DLSRs that should be announced.

Fongstarr, just curious... besides build, what other advantages does the 7d have over the 60d? Is the 7d really worth getting for these differences?

I own the 7D and shoot photos and videos...

The autofocus on the 7D is scary how fast and accurate it is when paired with a good lens.
7D has 19 AF points 60D is around 10 i believe.
7D also is faster FPS than the 60D.

^^^^Pretty much what he said. The autofocus with the burst that it shoots will get you good action shots for sure. I think it has a tad better ISO as well. It's not nearly as good as the Mark 2 but it's still good. Also with the price that you are paying, it is only a $100 more then a brand new 60D body.

ive decided to forgo my D90 (just got it a couple weeks ago

Sony Nex-5 with the18-55mm lens.

Yea if you dont mind getting the 7d off of CL then that your best cam right there, but dont get the t3i over the 60d, theres a digital rev video of the comparison of the 3 and lets you know the pros and cons of all 3

here you go sir

Yo! So I'm a happy 7D owner now... I met the guy, tried my best to feel him out, hear his story, ask the right questions and he seem legit, the 7D looked new too. I brought my own lens, memory card, did a little testing and all look good. The final step to verifying if the cam was really new was finding the actuation count, for the 7D it's a pain, involves Linux etc etc etc but I got the count it was pretty much all the test shots I took.

Hopefully I'll share pics taken with the 7D sometime soon. In the meantime check for me on Instagram JayDistrict

Congrats, you'll LOVE the 7D. Like fong said, I think it's the best crop sensor camera out right now. Good weight, great quality, and fast autofocus....and 8fps BURSTMODE! lol
