Did this on Saturday and it made me appreciate Rolo's photos that much more. I just couldn't get the same dynamic long exposure with what I have with my D90 and lenses. Oh well.....

I love shooting at Dodger Stadium. My suggestion is to move around, depending on your seats, you usually can't move down but you can always go up. Go early or stay late for empty stadium shots or warmups. Use the building and don't forget the people in the seats. Have fun and do all this with beers in between!

^ I don't think the lenses really compare. The 24-105 f/4L is more an all arounder, type lens; whereas the 85mm is more a medium telephoto - portraiture type lens. I own the 85mm and personally I love it. Many people say it's basically an L lens minus the red ring. The focal length, especially on a crop body, you will be using it outside more often than not. If you have other lens to meet your needs at other focal lengths, I think you'd be happy with the purchase.

I can't speak on the 24-105 too much, but I can't imagine why it also wouldnt be a great lens if you are ok with the speed.

Canon 85mm 1.8 is definitely a good lens. Chromatic abberation is bad in high contrast areas but it is great for portraits. Also one of the fastest focusing lenses Canon sells. I was practicing lighting with my wife recently and shot the below photo. It has been sharpened in post.
