This is true. People face discrimination in education admissions, employment and other financial matters. Names are important and when you name your child something "unique", you force them to work harder because of said discrimination. When it comes to the Black community and these names, the parents doing the naming are often uneducated and have no understanding of the burden they are putting on their child's shoulders. Your name and your actions (dress, speak) will define how people judge you. Is it right? No, but that's how it is.

If you're a grad student, you know how to conduct research. There are plenty of studies that support this. Black people especially have experimented with sending two resumes in; one with a "normal" name and one with their real name. Guess which one got the call back?
