Your Next Vacation Destination.....?

Looking at a quick Jamaica trip next month, 4 days total. Wifey and I, just looking for good food, drink, entertainment. Will probably do a few excursions as well.

Can anyone speak to Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios?

^ was quoted these numbers from my TA yesterday:

Jamaica from Atlanta 4-Nights 6-Nights
Riu Ocho Rios $738pp $954pp
Riu MontegoBay $791pp $1058pp
Royalton Negril $917pp $1259pp

Don't care too much about the resorts as it's only 4 days, and we plan to do excursions. Food/Drink on resort is usually fairly decent tho

I've been to Montego Bay. I actually wrote about it on The Hundred's blog a while back: https://thehundreds.com/blogs/content/jamrock

My wife and I had a great time out there. Not sure if it is cause we are Asian or if we just thought it was sort of a crazy trip when it might have been mellow to other people that have been there. It had sort of a scare factor the whole time while when we were there that made if so fun. Like right when we got into a taxi, the driver hands us a Red Stripe and allows us to drink in the car. We had a tour guide that like picked up his mistress while taking us to like a cave or a weed farm. There was even one time on the beach where a guy dragged my wife and I to his house just asking if we wanted beer and we sort of thought he was pulling a fast one on us but we just like kicked it in his house on the beach and his son rolled me a joint. It was like 2 beers and a joint for like $5 US. It was just funny stories like that made it so fun.

Definitely go to Booby Cay Island. They take you by boat and grill you a lobster there. Super good!

Rui's are pretty standard mid level chains...You'll like it if you dont go to all inclusive places often. Best part are the drink dispensers in the room.
I stayed at the Royalton in Negril last year. I did the adults only hideaway side. It was def pretty nice and had a quiet beach and pool if you wanted to get away. It also bordered hedonism and a nudest resort if youre into that kind of stuff.

Where you stay is dependent on what you want to do. Negril has the best beach (7mile) and ricks cafe.
MontegoBay is the most popular and closest to the airport. It probably has the best touristy night life.
Ochie is nice too and has some good beaches, Dunns river falls, and Dolphins Cove.
The island is pretty small so you can do day trips to any of the places...Its a win win situation wherever you stay.

But if you stay in mobay or ochie, drop by scotchies....the chicken and breadfruit will change your life..

Appreciate all the info.

Fong$tarr Fong$tarr that hundreds write up :pimp:
penalize penalize it's looking like MoBay is the move. I also stayed at a Riu resort in Cancun a few years back (Riu palace las americas) I was so lit I barely remember a thing but the dispensers were def an added incentive.

Cool ****. How'd you end up writing for Hundreds?

Bobby ask me and he only knew of me through NT. At the time, they were looking for bloggers in all areas of the world and I was in SF at the time. I only did it for a year and just stopped since it was like me doing work for them for no real incentive except for media exposure. They ended up asking a ton of other people in the Bay to do write ups and my corporate job took over and I just didn't have the time. It's cool to know I am on their site though. I did a write up on Iceland too if anyone cares. https://thehundreds.com/blogs/content/ice-ice-baby-icelandic-getaway

Bali and Thailand fell through for me. Gotta stop making plans contingent on other people. :smh:

It’s whatever. Decided on Europe again for the holiday. This year I’ll probably start on France, make my way up to Germany, then London, and then ring in the new year back in France.

Where in Germany do you plan to go? If you've already been to Berlin I'd recommend Koln(cologne)/Dusseldorf area.

Solo?

I did Koln last December. It was a good time but I didn’t get to explore the nightlife at all since we had to catch a train to London that night. Was debating on going back, or giving Berlin a go.

I’ve got a couple of people who may be able to go, but I’m committed to going regardless. Booking my own hotel and plan tickets so I’ll be locked in.

Never been on a solo trip, but I’m willing to give it a shot.

Berlin is a dope city. Brooklyn on steroids. such a big city you def need to make plans in advance to get the most out of it. If you go sol def be on your toes, there are some pretty rough areas/skin heads.

a blinkin a blinkin I did thailand a couple years ago for new years....it was the best new years ive ever had..you may want to cancel europe

ate good
partied for cheap
saw some things ill never see again...

a blinkin a blinkin ive been twice. Once with my girl, once with 5 friends. It was incredible both times. I would go back every couple months if it was closer. The food is cheap and good, seafood is fresh, and people are friendly. You can ride elephants, pet tigers, feed monkeys, visit a monastery, and go snorkeling all in the same day.

drunken cow drunken cow I couldn't imagine a better place for a bachelor party. It has everything you may need, except casinos. Some places are sketchy, but it all pretty safe. If youre in Bangkok, Khao San road gets wild. If yall are in Phuket, a bangla road is where the debauchery happens. I remember we stumbled on a random OT Genesis concert at one of the bars. We got a table unlimited beer, 5 bottles of champagne, and 4 bottles of liquor for 200 USD total, tip included. We only finished 2 bottles, so they made us take other two home. We showed up the next day with the bottles and they gave us the same table for free. There aren't many rules out there, as long as you respect the people, the prime minister and their religion.

Only thing I would say to avoid is the full moon party. Its cool, but kind of corny and packed. Its more full of Europeans on gap year than locals or people on vacation.

Had to switch destination for Costa Rica Jaco Beach due to the weather...

Going to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic instead. Leaving next week.

Any suggestions, expeditions, surfing, tour, etc?
