Looking to pick up a console

360s online is the best and has always been. Wii games are the cheapest, i think, but i doubt the majority of games youd want are for the wii and the graphics and pretty much nonexistant online are huge minuses.

The original ps3 was backwards compatible, but the newer 'slims' are not.

As an overall system (from someone who has all 3), i feel ps3 really shines with 1 player games such as god of war, metal gear solid, kingdom hearts in the future, and the 360 is online gaming central. Ps3 is more powerful (specs and bluray) but at the moment 360 has it beat for console exclusives in my book.

360 in my book. & ive had the same xbox 360 for 3 years now, no problems at all, only one ive ever owned.

The first response in this thread, and quite possibly the best post I've read regarding this debate.

That said, I'll be looking to pick up the new Xbox myself.

PS3 has more bang for your buck. Can't go wrong wit either tho. well, unless you prefer Halo or Gears or something. But you should go with ps3. Just get the slim and keep your ps2

Hey man, today's my b-day and I've decided to get rid of this 1 month XBL card. If you do plan to go Xbox 360, PM me and I'll send you the code. That way you can decide whether or not it's worth keeping.

PS3. Free online. I always find a lot of people with mics. And its not boring to me, but that's just my opinion. I will say Sony needs to pick up the pace with it's online features. Charge extra if need be for extra features but keep the basic online play free.

Although the new Xbox is cool and I hear good things about live. PS3 is still king for me.

I'll be buying the new Xbox once a really good line of deals come along.

I don't own both systems but I was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago.  I did extensive research to help me decide.
As for your questions, here are my answers
which console has better online gaming?
As a whole, xbox live is definitely better than PSN.  It's more seamless and cohesive than PSN.  I think the gameplay between the 2 is very small as well.
does ps3 work with older ps2 games?
 Only the old, fat ones.
i hear xbox break down easier, any truth?
They did but the new models (XBOX 360 s) have pretty much eliminated the chance of RROD.  The new chip is smaller and more energy efficient.  Also, the one big fan does a good job of removing the heat from the system.  Also, if it does start heating up, the system will shut itself down automatically to prevent any damage to the system.
are games cheaper on a particular system?
They're pretty much the same price.

I think some additional questions that you need to ask yourself are the types of games you're into.  For me, the deciding factors that led to my purchase to the PS3 were its exclusives (Uncharted series, GOW, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, etc. generated more interest, more of em and a greater variety in game genres) and the free online play (Xbox live is more seamless but that didn't make a big enough dif to me).

just one more thing to consider is how the consoles handle other media.  i have an xbox and use it mroe to play downloaded tv shows and netflix than to play games.  PS3 I think can play avi files though usb (i think) and netflix too, but also has the blu ray player.  PS3 also lets you watch hulu through your console as well as mlb.tv  i think it also has youtube integration?  just something else to take into consideration as the capabilities of consoles has grown far beyond just games.

i love my xbox but every baseball season i get really satly when the "MLB the show" ads come on because that game looks so sick and the mlb offerings on xbox are a joke.

just my two cents
