I mean they aren't too bad, I see what you're saying. but when you hatch 7 of the same thing when I've only had 11 10k eggs, it just gets annoying.and 3 of the other 4 are on your list lol.
I'll get over it, just sucks to walk that long and get the same result.

Yesterday I caught my first Kadabra at the beach and today i caught my first Alakazam after work at the train station. Just hatched a pikachu out my 2k egg and didnt realize it (it's simply amazing per the appraisal too) with enough candy to evolve it

What part of San Diego? If you're in the South Bay check out j street marina. Coronado island and its beach. Balboa park is a hotspot for tons of people !

I think your best shot is to hatch it. Other than that, you might find it randomly (and rarely) spawn at Beach Chalet, the Cliff House, or on Ocean Beach in between. I caught mine on the beach three weeks after release.
I finally caught a decent CP Snorlax. He spawned for a good 45 minutes in the Sunset:

Check out balboa park. Shouldn't be too far out of your way and it has museums and nice scenery. Double win for your lady and your Pokemon catching
