People with anxiety or panic attacks ....

Xanax works.
It's highly addictive though and the withdrawal is unbearable.
Worse than heroine or cocaine withdrawal, I've been told.

I've been on Xanax for over 20 years.

The first anxiety/panic attack I had lasted 36 hours.

I withdrew coming off Lexapro and was damn near close to offing myself.

I avoid any prescription meds at all costs. Some people absolutely need them, but they're so easy to abuse and you end up depending on them. They say to medicate with the supervision of physician. Problem is 90% of physicians don't give a **** and will treat you like a lab rat.

Did you quit cold turkey? Always consult with your physician when you're trying to quit a prescription medication.

Tapering down is usually advised. Cold turkey can result in very serious withdrawal effects, especially with anti-depressants or anti-anxiety meds.

In the case of Xanax, the withdrawal from quitting cold turkey can actually be fatal so it's important to have your physician make a detailed plan on how to quit your medication.

Yeah man, I goofed. I never expected that to happen. Lesson learned.

Withdrawal is no joke.

hmm so i cant even smoke up in peace anymore lol. Ever since I read this article saying smoking up isn't good for the white matter in your brain its been bugging me when i smoke. I have this tendency to overreact lol. Even though the article says it's for heavy smokers, it still affects me. How do I let this go and just chilllll?

Used to smoke weed but one night i was sitting there and a wave of doom washed over me and i got very dizzy. After that i started getting anxiety attacks around the same time every night (After i quit smoking weed). The weed triggered something in my head and in the end i had to take an anti depressant even though i didn't have depression anti depressants are known for helping anxiety. They helped right away and after a year i got off them and have been good since.

Strong weed can also cause temporary or permanent psychosis especially in younger people. It's not common but it does happen. Weed isn't what it used to be.

Anyway, stay away from Benzodiazepines like Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Valium. They can be very addicting. SSRI's (Anti depressants) are not. SSRI's are the ones like Prozac, Celexa, Paxil, Zoloft etc. You take those once a day and they stay in your system without getting you high.

I've found trying to keep somewhat busy schedule helps...

being with people or groups (can be focus or not) takes my mind off what I'm dwelling on, my perceived inadequacies...

I'm just not trying to be alone with own thoughts because thats what poisons any proper momentum...

I suffer from panic attacks been having them since I was 20 I'm 36 now. Never got on meds try to stay away from them. But I used to smoke weed but one day I smoked some new **** I guess they have now & I started tripping. I thought I was dying. Was having real bad panic attacks

I took an oxycodone with a bar of xanax the other day and I was calm AF.
Felt really good too.

My cousin who's an RN told me not to do it again.
Said it was highly addictive.

Ya you would be calm. Oxy is an opiate just like heroin. Xanax is a Benzo which is highly addictive aswell.

Ya i had to quit man haha. If they are bothering you just get a referral to a phyciatrist.

Those meds change peoples brain chemistry till the point it also changes thier personality.

I see not one good outcome from the people around me on anxiety/depression meds

Honestly I feel like people who need them are soft.

Everyone gets anxiety. That's life, I had all that prescribed to me too, I'm good on being a zombie and not being able to quit.

Pills aren't fixing anything, figure out the root of the problem. People just want to take pills instead of work on themself now. I blame the doctors too but you got to wake up some day it's not 100% their fault.

I hear you, though anxiety works on a spectrum, where for some people its so intense that its crippling and affects their quality of life. There are natural ways to quell it(exercise, meditating, balancing your diet etc) but I'm inclined to believe there are cases where doing those things isn't enough. Being stressed out over a relationship or because you're unemployed though, I believe you gotta suck that up.

Yeah i had referral when it was real bad. But after talking to one & them telling me about the side effects & you can't just quit cold turkey I said f it & learned to cope with them. It's no where near as bad now.

But I smoked some strong weed & I was tripping. Thought I was going to die. Having panic attacks for about 4 hours after smoking. Had to sleep it off. The worst panic attack since I was 20.

I hear you. But I don't think xan is good for anything. It might take years and years to get better but in those years you'll learn a lot about yourself you'd never have learned if you were just taking Xanax or seroquil. I know everyone is different but those pills aren't teaching you anything but covering it up.

Yea xanax never seem like a good idea

Great point.

I'm struggling with it bad also but I been a heavy weed smoker for years so maybe I only been perpetuating my situation more?

SSRI's can be addicting. Like I stated above, I withdrew HARD from Lexapro.

Not only is addictive, you can literally die. Combining opiates and benzos is how Prince died. "Accidental OD."

happened to me once for the first time about 2 -3 years ago realized it was all in my head stopped giving a **** and never had one since

It can certainly act as the proverbial "band aid over a gaping wound". Taking the time to compare how it is on and off weed for an extended period of time can tell you a lot. Its interesting, in some instances(people) it can alleviate anxiety but in others it exacerbates it. You also have to keep in mind that when you're high the neurons in your brain are firing more before they shut off. This can give way to over analyzing something to the point that you become anxious about it.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Some people have a chemical imbalance. It's there no matter what and nothing brings it on. Just 2 wires that don't connect in the brain and sometimes pills can help and even save someones life.

Ya you gotta taper off over a period of months. I had no problem stopping Celexa. Was taking 20mg and after a month was taking 10mg then a month later in was done and back to normal. Low doses will NOT make anyone feel like a zombie like some people here are saying and SSRI's will not get you high. 13% of Americans take them.

People's minds and bodies respond to different things. If you are fortunate enough to have a doctor, work with him or her and with trial and error and see how exercise, diet, lifestyle, meditation and therapy work. The same is true for drugs. For some people SSRIs are ideal. For some it would be benzodiazapines. In certain and more progressive states, cannabis might be the best option.

Regarding benzos, I think you guys might be having problems because of the dose you are taking. A "bar" of xanax is 2mg, which is huge with this particular drug. I get prescribed .25 mg pills and one or two pills induces a deep sense of calm and I have been taking them regularly for a decade. If you take xanax infrequently and then you take a bar, you will probably blackout and act erratically, especially if you mix it with alcohol.

Stick to the clinical doses for benzos if you are going to take them.
