I want to show you guys this vid from the /B/ Cringe thread vol. Do fat people repulse you?

"go wrestle something"

you may not be but you must have parents or a sibling who is obese or something the way you continually try and take these childish little shots at me

maybe you're a chubby chaser, I dont know. But you seem to be really personally offended by this thread.

to the point where i just think you were lying and you really are obese yourself.

which is cool, im not making fun of you.

not to mention i didnt even say anuthing about generalizations, Ninja did.

you have a weird vendetta against me.

You don't have to come at him like that, though. That man doesn't have to be fat to feel a certain way about it.He definitely means well.

Every fat person rolls in a scooter now too? ^
I see so everyone has the free time to go on a walk, and the money to afford a cleaner diet?

Now let me tell you about that last part. "In my opinion."

That is exactly what it is, your opinion. Every single one of you attempting to dictate and change the lives of others. That doesn't work, anywhere. The collective opinion for LGBT is that it is wrong and shouldn't be allowed. "Be straight" in other words. Just like you are saying "be skinny." And look where the LGBT community is. Fighting society in order to be able to have simple rights like a civil union.

Stop trying to "help" and let people live. I understand you lost weight, and you feel good. Hi-five. Have a cookie. Not everyone is you Steezy, don't try and change that.

Keep your opinions to yourself. (In terms of controlling people's lives so they fit your image.)

my dude im not trying to control anyone, I take care of my own body, is the only one i have and plan on not abusing it, what the next man does with his doesnt concern me, gain weight till you blow up, YOU AND THE LIKES OF THAT ORGANIZATION are the ones that are trying real hard to change how society perceives obesity, trying to turn a negative into a positive in a very ******ed way, by compensating, congratulating and LYING to obese people by saying WEIGHT is a non-factor and you can still "be well" @ 350lbs +

That is the problem. That organization is all about enabling. It is akin to an anorexic organization telling them that their weight is normal, or an organization of Heroin addicts wanting to preach the health benefits of being a dopefiend. I don't think that it is doing a service to obese people. I do agree that there needs to be more health education , especially in public schools.

for anyone to make a change for the better they first need to come to terms with reality, accept the wrong and fix it....saying is ok to be obese is building a HUGE comfort blanket for them to hide under and never want to better their quality of life.

I don't know, I take a whole different outlook from their article.

Taking weight out of the equation is dumb, but promoting wellness and accepting amongst the people and children? I see nothing wrong with that. Anti-bullying programs? Definitely nothing wrong with that.

I didn't read anything that made me think none of them would try and change their weight p, but there is probably something in there that says that to you. I looked more at the protective layer it is attempting to make.

If I had people making fun of me everyday, or saying that I repulse them, or if I'm losing job opportunities simply because I am overweight. Well I wouldn't have any motivation to work out, I'd be depressed. No motivation at all.

So I have no problem with this.

lots of people coming in here in order to pat themselves on the back for not being fat.

kinda sad that ya'll need that.

that's like making a thread congratulating yourself because you can read, and then talking about how illiterate people suck.

easy targets, easy stances to take, easy ego boosts.
Even if that is what people came in here to do...

You're really comparing the 1% illiteracy rate with the 20+% obesity rate in the U.S.?

I doubt anyone feels good about themselves for beating 1% of the nation at something.

not being able to find a job because of your weight, having jabs thrown at you, etc wouldnt motivate you bro?....do you really think having an organization tell you its ok to be 150lbs overweight will motivate you more to lose that weight?...

im seriously curious how it is that they promote wellness without tackling the isuue of weight....

bullying, well kids bully kids about everything and anything, if anything a big kid is the last kid anyone would wanna mess with in the school yard, wimpy skinny kids probably get targeted more because of their weight.

Completely false. Obese children are targets for bullying more times than not. Believe that,

The study found that being overweight increased the risk of being the target of bullying by 63 percent.

http://health.usnews.com/health-new...articles/2010/05/03/bullies-target-obese-kids

They promote wellness by promoting positive emotions. Which is one thousand times better than the average bully. No matter how you put it.

And no, having jabs thrown at me, being unemployed, etc would not motivate me. In today's world, we have people committing suicide over unemployment alone so you think adding the every day discrimination and bullying is going to help that at all? Of course not. People derive motivation from different sources, you can't assume that the negative attacks will help any.

This is from the NAAFA website:

NAAFA Policy Recommendations

Employment

Include weight in the Civil Rights Act or create separate federal anti-discrimination legislation based on weight and seek inclusion in anti-discrimination policies of major corporations and institutions.

Health care

Encourage health care organizations to adopt a Health At Every Size (HAES) policy and include HAES in patients’ rights policies.

Educational Institutions

Protect overweight children from bullying and intimidation in school by requiring states and/or school districts to adopt HAES and enforce policies prohibiting harassment, intimidation, or bullying on school property.

Include weight as a specific protected category.

http://www.naafaonline.com/dev2/education/index.html

So they want to encourage health care organizations to teach people that being fat is healthy? :smh:

Health At Every
Size (HAES)

Introduction

NAAFA supports the principles of Health At Every Size (HAES). These principles are aligned with our mission of protecting the rights and improving the quality of life for fat people. Instead of focusing on weight as a measurement of health, the HAES approach removes weight from the equation and replaces it with a focus on overall well being, which includes the full range of body shapes and sizes.

General Principles

Accepting and respecting the diversity of body shapes and sizes
Recognizing that health and well-being are multi-dimensional and that they include physical, social, spiritual, occupational, emotional, and intellectual aspects
Promoting all aspects of health and well-being for people of all sizes
Promoting eating in a manner which balances individual nutritional needs, hunger, satiety, appetite, and pleasure
Promoting individually appropriate, enjoyable, life-enhancing physical activity, rather than exercise that is focused on a goal of weight loss

http://www.naafaonline.com/dev2/education/haes.html
What kind of physical activity is enjoyable when you're 300+ pounds, though? This is just unrealistic.

"Recognizing that health and well-being are multi-dimensional and that they include physical, social, spiritual, occupational, emotional, and intellectual aspects" You're a fat slob, but it's cool cuz you're happy and outgoing? What the hell kinda nonsense is this? This can be applied to pretty much anything. "Oh you do heroin and molest children, but at least you have a great social life and are spiritually, occupationally, and intellectually sound" FOH

This website really is trash, I can't believe anyone cosigns this foolishness. :smh:

The members of this organization are delusional:

Medical criticism

The fat acceptance movement has been criticized for adding no value to the debate over human health, with some critics accusing the movement of "promoting a lifestyle that can have dire health consequences".[54][55][56] In response, proponents of fat acceptance have pointed to studies which show that being fat in and of itself is not a health problem and that long-term weight-loss is not possible in the majority of cases.[57] They also argue that current approaches constitute fat-shaming which, rather than leading to weight loss, results in psychological issues like eating disorders.[58] Fat acceptance campaigners also raise concerns that modern culture's concern with weight loss may not have a foundation in scientific research, but instead is an example of using science as an means to control deviance, as a part of society's attempt to deal with something that it finds disturbing.[59][60]

More serious critiques have come from medical professionals who are otherwise sympathetic to the civil rights activism of the movement.[citation needed] Dr Arya Sharma, a Canadian obesity specialist, has accused fat acceptance advocates of using bad science tactics – of the kind previously used by the tobacco industry to promote denial of the health risks of smoking – to suggest that there is no such thing as an obesity epidemic, or that being overweight is completely health neutral.[61] Marilyn Wann, a prominent member of the fat acceptance movement, has labelled the Center for Disease Control's 2012 Weight of the Nation report "pseudoscientific sensationalism".[62]

They also lobby against the right of airlines to charge morbidly obese people for more than one seat. If any of you have to regularly fly coach, that is reason enough to not support them.

My "thesis statement", if you will; Let people live their lives. It doesn't affect you in the slightest.

I'm out.

son who will actually feel good looking at themselves in the mirror and seeing nothing but fat stare you back, not being able to sleep because your weight caused you to have sleep apnea, damb it not being able to walk up 1 one flight without gasping for dear life, how in the world can they promote wellness without tackling the root of the problem? HOW?

I think you miss the point.

Obese people are discriminated against. Plain and simple. I dare you to deny it even as a member of is thread. With discrimination comes unfair opportunities.

If you were an employer, and two equally qualified individuals came and applied for a job. One obese and one slim. You would hire the slim employee nine times out of ten.

That's where it becomes unfair, and legislation is needed to protect these people.
holy **** famb, no.  LESS legislation is needed all the way around this damn country.  IT'S NOT UNFAIR THAT PEOPLE CALL YOU FAT WHEN YOU KNOW YOU FAT!!  my friend is around 6 feet, weighed over 300 pounds.  guy was HAPPY with it.  ate his burgers, ate his fries, ate his steak and never had a care in the world about it.  that is until a pretty little thing told him he really needed to hit dem weights and get that dieting on.  it was a ***** thing to say, but guy immediately cuts the carbs, cuts the fatty stuff, starts walking and all that.  lost fifty pounds in a freakin' month.  he feels better, looks better and all it took was some hot bird tellin him he fat and shouldn't stay that way.  i supported him before when he was fat and happy and i support him now when he's tryna live a little bit longer and feel better about himself.  no ******g legislation needed.  you want protection?  protect yourself.  you want the usa to make a law where you HAVE to wear a jimmy hat?!  nope.  you protect yourself.  you don't want kids, you don't wanna chance stds, you wear a jimmy.  you don't want to?  fine, but don't come cryin to me when your jo got a bun in the oven or your **** hurts when you pee.  big gov has no right in the legal decisions we as a people are making whether they be dumb or not.  leave my freedom alone charles.

why do you think so many people gain weight during marriage??....because they build a safety blanket of acceptance and comfort, no natural instinct to compete for a mate anymore, well at least not as much as when you are single....this acceptance for obesity this group strives for is pushing an agenda for more sickness and disabilities...its wild that anyone would support this.

Charles I'm usually behind you 100% bruh. But I cannot get behind legislation to specifically protect the obese.

I can fully get behind a stronger emphasis on healthy eating, stronger emphasis on actually having affordable healthy food in schools, and I'm all for gym/PE/health being a requirement from k through college. Aren't we the fattest nation? It has EVERYTHING to do with our overindulgent yet supremely sedentary lifestyle.

Education > coddling, and we both know this.

I feel like if people knew what they were eating and what it was doing to them, and HAD to exercise daily from childhood, obesity would be cut drastically.

This is from a guy who used to sweat walking up stairs. No one ever coddled me, I got made fun of and teased to the point that depression wasn't even an option anymore. I got up and fixed it. I'm still dealing with depression but at least now I can run a mile in 7 min.

I went from Big Boi to Wiz in a summer. All it took was getting up off the damn couch.

I get that some people have genetic issues and what have you but not everyone can use that cop out. Its not genetics if you're eating a brick of cheese.

Okay. So every obese person is now lazy? Generalizations harm more than they help. Remember when the US said every African American was uneducated and incapable of a job with higher qualifications? That really worked out.

People with less money, have a bad diet. That causes weight gain. Is it their fault they don't make enough to afford organic meals? No, it's not.

Or the people who are working, and taking care of their children. What free time do they have to go out running, or to the gym?

There are the lazy, whom have no sympathy from me. Then, there is the obese population. Who do not deserve to be called anything. Definitely not coming from you.
You know whats funny, I ate healther and more organic food in a third world country for cheaper than I would if I ate organic here.

I've been following this thread since the beginning and have a few points at this point.

I understand and respect the "libertarian" point of view expressed in this thread (but I don't agree with it): let fat people be fat; it doesn't affect you. The fact that it doesn't affect you is arguably not true: "In addition, the obesity epidemic exerts a heavy toll on the economy with its massive healthcare costs." [www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/pmc2833287/]. An example study estimating total economic impact of obesity in Australia: https://www.mja.com.au/journal/2010...gin_no_cache=a08c1c730643585c947a43ba1226f2a4.

In short, if you think that obesity isn't a problem, then you're flat-out wrong. I think the majority of the people posting in this thread would agree that obesity is a significant epidemiological problem here in America and in the world. The disagreement seems to be coming with what is the best way of fixing the obesity epidemic. I think the dialogue thus far in the thread is way too focused on fat shaming. We're getting too caught up on whether it's bullying or what sort of emotional impact it has. We're spending too much time trying to equate it or differentiate it from other forms of discrimination. This isn't worthwhile. I personally don't agree with groups like NAFFA (or whatever it is) or the whole Health At Every Size movement; however, I'm not disillusioned enough to believe that fat shaming or fat support groups or any of that type of stuff that is being debated is really scalable enough to make a difference in the obesity epidemic. Getting rid of these sorts of groups isn't really going to make much of a difference in fixing the obesity crisis.

What actually needs to be discussed, researched, and considered, is how to fix the obesity epidemic. The solution will come out of science and economics, not emotions or philosophy.

  • You gain weight when you consume more calories than you burn. It's simple physics really.
  • Certain factors effect how many calories people consume and how many they burn. These include socioeconomics, will power, other health problems, culture, personality, stress, etc..
  • Physical activity is important in terms of increasing how many calories one burns; however, it cannot balance out a ****** diet.

In my opinion, the key to weight loss, is to focus on consuming nutrient-dense, satisfying, real foods, and avoiding the calorie dense, nutrient-deficient processed foods that are so prominent these days. This cannot be done solely by "feel," rather some sort of record needs to be kept, at least initially. I.E. count macros and carbs. Micronutrient requirements can generally be met through a diverse real food based diet, plus some supplementation. It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive. In fact processed foods and fast foods are much more expensive for what you're actually getting.
While will power and personal priorities are going to partly determine how easy it is for people to follow the above rules, there is a lot that can be done to optimize the situation. This includes getting rid of so-called "food deserts" in low income neighborhoods (areas where people have minimal access to a supermarket and are forced to rely on corner stores, fast food etc); doing away with subsidies for calorie dense, nutritiously void foods; proper nutritional education in schools; doing away with advertising promoting **** foods; adding warning labels to **** foods etc.. (not saying I necessarily support all of these possible interventions, just brainstorming)

Basically, what I'm saying here is we can spend all the time we want debating on whether fat acceptance is a good/bad thing, but the fact of the matter is that side of things is insignificant in terms of solving the obesity epidemic. Rather we need to make significant societal changes.

now who's generalizing?
laugh.gif

so now if you dont buy into that con of "organic" everything its somehow making you fat?
roll.gif

whatever happened to taking responsibility for your actions? dont people read da nutritious facts anymore? its BLATANTLY obvious

that if you take in more calories then you burn YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT, that **** has nothing to do with how much more or

less money you got.
Do you know there are people out there regardless of their wealth can't comprehend the facts on the back of the label? Do you know that more people in general don't even know what they put in their body? It's not as BLATANTLY obvious as you think Mr. Hood. I guarantee that you don't know most of the substances that you eat and drink consist of and what they ACTUALLY do to your body.

BONG BONG BONG -RZA

people with less money have to eat at home, eating at home is cleaner than anything you can put in your mouth in the street.....you can barely get a meal at McDonalds for less than 10$....

doubt money is the cause of obesity....if that was the case, id see alot more obese homeless people.
You don't understand health's relation to economics. Sounding mad ignorant right now plehboi.

Its cheaper to get fat. A Big Mac costs less than a couple pounds of organic food from Whole Foods.

not only that, but places like save a lot are located in lower income areas, where places like trader joes arent. The quality of food in save a lot is laughable in comparison.

Also look at the number of chinese food stores and corner stores in urban areas. A kid can go to a corner store and buy a dinner of chips, some kind of tasty cake and some ****** chinese food for 5 bucks
