ATL has a diverse Economy, while Houston is just bigger. So in Houston you would find More jobs in a specific area while ATL you will find a decent amount of a wider range. In TX Austin and Dallas are better job wise, but even then dont have as much of a diverse industry, just more jobs due to size when it comes to their bread and butter which is Telecom (Dallas), Tech (Austin, Oil, and Healthcare.
For every Fortune 500 company with a HQ in TX they more than likely have some type of regional office in ATL but less positions.

Austin would definitely be better for Tech jobs.
Houston's biggest industry is Oil and Gas, with campuses for Exxon, Shell, BP, Haliburton, etc. For anyone following oil, the price of crude has been falling off significantly. Its good for consumers since you can fill your tank for $1.50 a gallon, but that doesn't help the people who work for those companies. They all have been doing layoffs for the past 2-3 years and will continue to do such.
A lot of finance jobs (but ATL probably has more). Also Education and Healthcare. I know teachers making 50k right out of college.

Man, I'm trying to move back to Atl from Baltimore. Was in Atl for about 5 years, and loved it. Other than driving...a lot of flourishing can be done. Lower cost of living, + yambs and a good nightlife scene.
$60k a year down there, you can live like a prince. Trying to find a job down there for about that. That's the plan.

yea, I just always say DO NOT GO TO ANY CITY WITH OUT A JOB. Dudes hear about how ATL is and end up quitting their jobs and just coming down thinking gigs will fall in their lap and end up looking sick. The Thing about ATL is getting here and networking, when you get your network together you can make some big time moves in a short period of time.

Yea I think dudes get caught up on the wage/salary tip wayyyy too much. Clearing $100K a year in SanFran will fund you a shared home with roommates, clearing that same salary in Charlotte will get you either in a 1bedroom condo in a sick condo tower in Uptown or in a lake front community in the suburbs (where I reside). You have to look at cost of living as a whole when you're starting to establish your career OR set roots down. Right outta college years back I was like, where can I get the most bang for my CREAM, and have nice weather pretty much all year round, and watch pro teams go at it in the city, and have a plethora of things to get into on the weekends, and have low crime, and have a chance at working for a great company who also pays well. Checking all of those boxes in the US is tough y0, not a ton of cities can claim that. Real Talk.

Charlotte is like the Banking Mecca too, NC in general seems like a great place to live, but the Weather is more "East Coast" Than Southern from what I have seen.

Yeah my dude who lives in atl recommends transferring in with your current job. Know a few folks in the dc area who moved back to atl but stayed with the company.

Outside of the summer, the weather is nothing like the deep south. It's basically the same as DC but slightly warmer. Don't go there thinking you're getting away from the cold.

It was in the 70's for two weeks this past Christmas. Now it's in the 50's. It's not Arizona weather but definitely not DC weather. Ive lived in Charlotte for almost 10 years now, half of those times at Christmas...ive rocked shorts. Spring, Summer, Fall...it's hot. Winter, one week it's 30's, the next week it's 75. That's what is hard to get use to.
Financial hub for sure. I work for Wells now, worked for BofA prior...basically outta college. When i lived in Uptown, would Always see 23/24 year old's pushing Bimmer's and Benzo's living in sick albeit leased pads around center city working for either BofA, Wells, BB&T, Ally or UsBank. $$$ is to be made in this city no doubt. Plus it's a national melting pot.

I live 5 minutes from the casino being built right off the harbor.
**** sucks. Traffic blows, and they didn't build any roads to make traffic any better

Thats the issue with ATL right now. Seems like NYC and Chicago are the only cities with transit worth a damn where you could thug it out with out a car.

At my previous job, I used to envy my colleagues who worked in Houston; they had the trifecta (i) Houston cost of living, (ii) no state income tax and (iii) were paid a NY salary (~$100k+ salary & bonus). While I was living in a tiny NYC studio they were purchasing homes and driving a new BMW, it really put into perspective how much further a dollar goes in other parts of the country.

Lol this is done on purpose, one way in and one way out. Crime is gonna be HEAVY come 2017/2018 when the MGM is done.
So the lil round about did nothing to help traffic? lol I figured that.
@LuckyLuchiano a MD metro line is supposedly in the works, maybe it will be done by 2025 if we are lucky.
A lot of MD is just not metro accessible, I believe this is because people didn't use to live so far from the city and at one point a lot of MD people loved the fact that everything was so secluded
