I find the taste of vodka and gin too strong, on that pure alcohol, bitter tasting bs, they need to be sweetened tenfold for me to be able to drink them.

No need to, you're doing it right. Jack and coke for me except in the summer I sometimes switch to captain and coke. Only time I'm ordering something fruity is if I'm sitting on the beach on an island.
