A$AP

It's really funny how delusional New York rap fans are. NOBODY said that Rocky is a better rapper than ANYBODY. We get it that you dudes are still stuck on that lyrical street rap circa 2004 %*%+, but nobody else is really checking for that anymore. You think Wiz and Big Sean made it off being lyrical geniuses? No....they blew up from white college frat kids bumping their music, doing shows at frat houses and %*%+. You know who hears them listening to that? Hot college girls with alot of friends. They all post the %*%+ on their Facebook/Twitter for all of their 3000 friends to see. That's how popularity is built in this day and age, not "what's hot in the streets"....more like what's hot on campus. Is Wiz supposed to sound like however a Pittsburgh rapper is supposed to sound? Does Big Sean sound like a typical Chicago artist? Does everyone in Odd Future sound like West Coast rappers? Does Currensy sound like he's from Louisana? Does J. Cole sound like he's more from North Carolina or New York? All of these dudes rep their city in their songs but none of them actually "sound" like they're from the area they're from. Wale and Meek Mill, two up-north artists, couldn't do a damn thing outside of their areas until they signed with Rick Ross (no I do not care that Wale's label got Lady GaGa to get on a track with him). All these dudes are #%*#$%# with eachother no matter where they're from. You stubborn $%$ New York dudes need to do the same thing. Leave the area codes at home.

point blank....A$ap is buzzin, he's from NYC...either you like him....or you don't, he's a southern influenced artist...so what big deal? nobody is getting on jay elec. or curren$y for runnin with that eastcoast style...

This is why hip-hop fans suck in general...cause you keep comparing these new dudes to everyone else...if you dont like something then dont listen to it...if you do then bump it....why do you cornballs throw everything out of proprtion...the last 20 pages have been nothing but dead end arguments...alot of valid points but still its unneccesary to discuss them in here because this thread is about asap

Tim, once again hits it on the head.  NY will always support a rappity $%@ rap market like Ninjahood has said...All of our rappers "eat" but they live in a small world that only operates in the Tri-State basically.  This kid is chasing a bigger market and its the first time in a minute we've had someone from here who has that potential appeal.  That is why the Times wrote an article on him Karsten, cause he isn't those rappity $%@ rappers.  Times isn't the Post or a broader market either, there arts section works in a bubble as well and that bubble is far more interested in people like Rocky or Lil B'.  These kids represent the increasingly alternative avenus of blackness in many ways and Times loves that sociological type of !+!$.  Black kids ryhming about Rafael Simmons and Rick Owens is far more interesting to the upper-middle class white people that the Times caters to then Vado and his legion of slimes.

And now Spencer's dumb $%@ is in here...You from Texas son, spending a semester abroad in the Heights don't make you a NY'er stop acting like you know what you are talking about.

You talking about NYC radio. Angie, Enuff, Slay and Flex still play NYC cats. And then you can't forget about Clue. Hell Clue set the standard for breaking NYC artists with the mix tape which he revolutionized. That cats from other parts of the country was buying. That are now basically available for all since they're online. NYC is all politics and favors, but I'll be damned if an outsider tells me NYC radio doesn't play NYC artists but for an hour. y'all be the first ones listening to Flex and fiendin for radio rips on Nahright and Rap Radar then talking about how Flex jocks Jayz

Its as simple as that.RAP is damn near religious to us NewYorkers. when jay-z said "sittin all day & argue who's da best MCs biggie, jay-z or Nas" he wasn'tExaggerating...we take bars serious up here. We also take da culture VERY serious, its because not only do We vet da music, we also vet da individual...you see, us NYC cats got SO much classic albums to keep us well pacified that da typical rapper has to be thaaat great to even break our cycle of digesting 36 chambers, illmatic, OB4CL, Reasonable doubt, etc. For da millionth time.So if a cat is makin noise, we DONT JUMP on da band wagon like other states with weak hiphop roots, we give em a feel, and see wasspopping first. At one point lil wayne was poppin everywhere else BUT NY, and he said it himself...it takes alot more than just some hot songs to prove ur a guy we'd invest in..look at Charles Hamilton for example: extremely talented kid, but becauseHe didn't have da support of his OWN HOOD harlem, or NYC, his campaign folded like a cheap summer picnic table, and lyrically he ranCIRCLES around a$ap...but because he was a lame NY never blessed him...A$ap isn't safe from da scrutiny...if NY'S consensus of him isA "ny cat tryin to sound like a down south houston dude' den its gonna kill any demand he could've gotten...Another funny thing is da morons in here tryin to downplay hot97...

how a$ap just signed a deal worth over 3 milli & NO ONE in daNY airwave broke wind to even mention much if anything about it...if his moves are so big den why ain't flex or angie playin his records? Drake was gettin airplay regularly when he was bubbling @ he was STILL a free agent @ that point.it just goes to show u that you gotta be straight up undeniable to get love in NY, cuz frankly we uaed to da best.
