NT's All Time NBA ReDraft Thread: GR8 Write Up Page 187, Bracket Final Vote

I kind of wonder how my team would be with T-Mac replacing Hill. It was really close between the two, but I went with Hill because he was more consistent on defense.

But having T-Mac as my go-to scorer with my supporting cast might have been better.

Oscar Robertson / Scott Skiles
Joe Dumars / Steve Smith / Larry Hughes
Detlef Schrempf / Rick Fox
Horace Grant / Charles Oakley / Robert Horry
Kevin McHale / Roy Hibbert

The team is built around the incredible one-two punch of Oscar Robertson and Kevin McHale. They can attack you together in the pick-and-roll, made effective by the Big O's vision/ability to thread passes and McHale's touch. They can attack you separately - Oscar can get set and dribble around, deciding whether to pull up for a jumper, post in the midpost, find an angle to an open teammate, or weave his way to the basket; or McHale can get fed in the post and unleash his graceful moves around the basket. Oscar can also grab the boards and push the ball.

The two also bring some great defensive ability, mainly thanks to their length. Meanwhile, Dumars adds a tenacious one-on-one perimeter defender to the mix; the three of them should create hell for a lot of teams.

Schrempf and Horace get the nods in the starting lineup since they can dependably/efficiently space the floor. They've also held their own on great defensive teams in the past, so the hope is they do the same here. But if they're not performing well enough, they can always get swapped out with Rick Fox (better defender who can shoot), Oakley (more rebounding), Hibbert (paint defense).

The only questionable fit offensively is Dumars; but hopefully he can pick his spots to attack and shoot well enough that he doesn't crowd it up for the Big O. If things get sluggish on the offensive end, Steve Smith (huge scoring but also requires the ball to be at his best) and Horry (more stretch from the 4 position, might open things up even more) can provide different options.

Self Evaluation: It might come down to coaching. Big O/McHale create so many offensive options on their own that the team will always be dangerous. But it's up to the coach to stagger the lineups the right way and put in the players that best fit what Oscar and McHale are doing.

In the end, I sort of see them as a methodical, workhorse type of team; with the right coaching, they can be contenders.

I did move Bill to the bench and David to the starting PF slot. Although, I've recently considered going with a line up of the following:

Walton
Bron
Tayshawn
Vince
Wall

And having my second unit look like

Bill
West
Chuck
Rip
E.T.

A lot I could do with the players I have. the single "?" Everyone is going to have when looking at my roster.

"One of these are not alike."

Score one for affirmative action :pimp:

But, if we speakin truth to each other, Wilt, Web, Melo......lot of playoff pee down some legs, no? nerd.gif Clearly, on a team together, they have the fire power to put your lights out. But I mean......Dumas and BJ got more Finals shine than your starting lineup, right

Yes, and that's where I would hope Clyde would have the playoff chops to get things in order. Said it when I picked him but going for 36, 19 and 7 in a G7 of the Finals with 1/10th of Willis Reed and against Wilt/Baylor/West is pretty much the forgotten all-time clutch performance in league history. It should be the Cylde Frazier game, not the Willis Reed game.

But yeah, I pretty much felt like I had no choice to take Melo when he fell and the Melo/Webber/Wilt trio made me...skeptical, if we were getting into nut-cutting time. But I rolled with talent.

...

I'll take some more time later to really look through the teams. But LeBron x Walton when Cake got those 2 early is pretty much basketball porn for me. Not sure the rest of the squad was to my liking but those two together is genius.

Oh, and BHZ made the most Memphis Grizzliest team ever.

Who has the Duncan x Pierce combo, BigJ? That's just a slow, boring death. But death. Amare/Tim at their peaks would have been pretty cool to see but wish you had a different option at PG to distribute

I got you bro, I actually wanted to take a little bit more time analyzing your squad and BeEazy. Maybe even Champ's too. Figuring out how some of those guys would translate into this era of ball is something I find really interesting.

You'LL probably get a better breakdown from guys who were alive to see most of your squad play outside of Penny and English

Your win shares is LIT tho :pimp:

That's my gawd :nthat:

Good looks.

B Lamar Odom
B Vlade Divac
B Shane Battier
B Kyle Lowry
B Stephen Jackson

B Brent Barry

I felt bad you got 30th, but I also knew you'd still put up one of the best rosters, lo and behold.......Absolutely killer starting 5. Smart, versatile, tough bench to go with.

PG Steph Curry
SG Andrei Kirilenko
SF Tracy McGrady
PF Rashard Lewis
C Bob Lanier
B Michael Redd
B Fat Lever
B Andrew Bogut
B Danny Ainge
B Mehmet Okur
B Boris Diaw
B DeMarre Carroll

If you put Redd in at SG........ you and Addict4 could have a series where each game was 151-148 to start the 4th quarter. I love a lot of your team, cept Ainge, **** Ainge.

PG Nate Archibald
SG Allen Iverson
SF Bruce Bowen
PF Charles Barkley
C Pau Gasol
B Allan Houston
B Baron Davis
B Shareef Abdur-Rahim
B Rony Seikaly
B PJ Brown
B Xavier McDaniel
B Josh Howard

Iverson/Barkley/Pau and if it were me, I would slot Houston into the SF, I would totally love that group. I know Bowen "fits" because of defense and not needing the ball, he also lets every defense have an extra defender against you. Houston can play some D, and keep a defense honest. Lot of toughness off your bench too, smart backing the softer Pau.

SG Sam Jones

PF Maurice Lucas
C David Robinson

B Andrew Toney

B Tristan Thompson
B Jamaal Wilkes
B Mychal Thompson
B Damon Stoudamire

Little bit like Champ and ECook, you have some older guys I don't know enough about. I know you started damn well with Stock + David, and that goes a long way. I know Toney and Wilkes were both very good in their era, and Rod was hugely underrated. Fit wise, I can't give you a fair assessment worth anything.

PG Tim Hardaway
SG Dan Majerle
SF Shawn Marion
PF George Gervin
C Moses Malone
B Jermaine O'Neal
B Gordon Hayward
B Jack Sikma

You could have "some" trouble just true scoring. A take the ball and get out the way scorer, you know sometimes you need that. But balance wise? I like a lot of what you put together.

SF Glen Rice
PF Wes Unseld
C Willis Reed
B Kevin Love
B Antonio McDyess
B JR Smith
B Timofey Mozgov
B Zydrunas Ilgauskas
B Mugsy Bogues
B Bobby Phills

Well, you'd have the Ohio vote. Russ may be a smidge early here, but West/Rice/Unseld/Reed is a really nice quartet. Love and Dyess? Like that, a lot. The rest of the bench.......eh, gets a little loosey around the corners.

Even the young guy you took I know nothin about, what're you tryin to do to me here man? This was your chance to get Pat a bunch of studs and let him be great. I guess you did surround him with greatness, but did they have to be fossils? Help me out here big guy.

PG Dave Bing
SG Reggie Miller
SF Julius Erving
PF Rasheed Wallace
C Nerlens Noel
B Toni Kukoc
B Michael Finley
B Derrick Coleman
B Norm Nixon
B Jalen Rose
B Rex Chapman
B Steve Kerr

Broke my heart when you took Sheed, but you have a lot of guys I was eyeing, I just never pulled the trigger on. Love your 2-4, a lot, Kukoc is fire, DC was so good, and I was always a Jalen fan. But if you wanna go with Sheed at C against Shaq, David, Dream, Kareem, Wilt, Russell, I mean......

PG Oscar Robertson
SG Joe Dumars
SF Detlef Schrempf
PF Kevin McHale
C Roy Hibbert
B Horace Grant
B Charles Oakley
B Steve Smith
B Robert Horry
B Scott Skiles
B Rick Fox
B Larry Hughes

So much balance 1-12. Not really a pick I don't like. You have eleventeen PF's, but it works for you. You also stole like 6 of my guys, but I wanted to be fair and I could always work around a target or two in the name of helping guys get their picks in for the next guy.

Chester
PG Mark Price
SG Alvin Robertson
SF Dominque Wilkins
PF Kevin Garnett
C Dikembe Mutumbo
B Jose Calderon
B Jason Terry
B Gerald Wallace
B Clifford Robinson
B Andre Drummond
B Trevor Ariza
B David Lee

Lot of smart value and fits here. I wonder tho, in a heavy weight matchup, as well as you do with Mutumbo/KG, Mark Price guarding Russ, CP3, Rose, Magic, Kidd, Payton, Penny, Steph? If you could have pulled Mookie as your backup, someone to switch onto PG's late, I think you woulda seen a much bigger affect.

Pro
PG Magic Johnson
SG Earl Monroe
SF Glenn Robinson
PF Bob Pettit
C Artis Gilmore
B Mike Conley
B Jerry Stackhouse
B Luol Deng
B Al Jefferson
B Khris Middelton
B Tyreke Evans
B Nikola Mirotic

Magic and 4 jack offs looks great on paper, dude would work with anybody, really no way for Pro to go wrong here. And getting Magic Johnson at 7........ :smh: Glenn would become the new Big Game James. Love Conley as the backup too. Magic feeding Monroe, Pettit, and Gilmore, ****.

Retro
PG Dennis Johnson
SG Paul Westphal
SF Chris Mullin
PF Elvin Hayes
C Shaquille O'Neal
B Steve Francis
B Marques Johnson
B Mike Miller
B Buck Williams
B Brad Miller
B Jabari Parker
B Cuttino Mobley

Building around Shaq, you missed out on the shooters you needed/had to have. Mullin is great, but you needed more shooting elsewhere. DJ was great, for the 80's, when everything was 18 feet and in, but with Shaq, I would have liked you to go in the modern approach and let him operate with zero double team possibilities. That said, Hayes and Mullin are solid parts and Buck Williams would be tremendous off the bench. Jabari may someday be a great one as well.

PG Deron Williams
SG Kobe Bryant
SF James Worthy
PF Al Horford
C Boogie Cousins
B Gilbert Arenas
B Bradley Beal
B Tony Allen
B Karl Anthony Towns
B Tyson Chandler
B Rick Mahorn
B Tobias Harris

I don't know if Deron and Gil work, with Kobe/Worthy/Cousins. You get just the one ball. Talent wise tho, you have everything you need, no doubts there man. And you def covered each spot, multiple times with your bench depth. Solid team overall, my concern is just the PG fit is all.

PG Bob Cousy
SG Drazen Petrovic
SF Kiki Vandeweghe
PF Tom Chambers
C Bill Russell

B World B Free
B Jason Richardson
B Kevin Willis
B Ralph Sampson
B Danny Granger
B Dino Radja

Your wings, vs some other teams wings.......how you feel? Love the sniper that is Drazen. Was hopin I could steal him. Russell does give you a legit chance at about 10 rings I guess, but hey.
Rich/Granger is an interesting duo to me, I always liked both of them, and thought they were underrated in this era.

Awwsome
PG Tony Parker
SG David Thompson
SF Peja Stojakovich
PF Blake Griffin
C Hakeem Olajuwon
B Goran Dragic
B Jeff Hornacek
B George McGinnis
B Josh Smith
B Joakim Noah
B Bo Outlaw
B Victor Oladipo

You surprised us all b. But overall, I like a lot of your squad. Love the Blake/Peja duo, around Keem, and TP is probably the perfect PG, just a smidge shy of the range needed, but he has enough probably. If not, Dragic is the perfect backup then. :pimp: Honry is tough as nails, and adds another sniper for ya, and you went all solid toolsets the rest of the way.

All of you, this was a blast, and I enjoyed workin with y'all. Thank you to everyone for bein a part of it, and thank you to the judges who I couldn't find a spot for for helpin out any way you could. :nthat:

CaptainSneaker da real MVP.

That breakdown of his submission :wow:

I ain't... I can't do all o' that, my dudes.

allen, yup.. The Walt/Russ pick is one I'll definitely think back on.. same with not snatching up Serge when I had the chance.

My thinking was Duncan and Pierce could keep Russ in line... plus I imagined Russ and prime Amar'e running the floor together and that sounded good to me.

I'll do my best to breakdown as much as I can tomorrow.. I'll have the entire day off

Oh I get no love?

I lost out on a lot of the shooters I wanted just from waiting a little too late on selecting them. Specifically, Jeff Hornacek was a pick I had locked in and awwsome took him. Chuck Person was another guy I wanted late in the draft and I probably should've taken him over Starks, but my mindset was he would swing back around to me.

However, Porter, Turkoglu and Christie were all good shooters in their prime and would give a point forward like Mason room to operate in the post. La Bomba was also a good shooter, though streaky at times.

Still haven't had a time to give my roster a run-through but good points CP.

I rely heavily on the Iceman as my go to scorer. But I believe when you have as many talented basketball players, system matters more than anything and balance is key. I think my depth is second to none really. I wouldn't choose my spot as the best but I think I put together a squad that can play any style really and is going to be an uptempo team that will grab boards and strap up. Lot of the teams seemed to make defense a secondary option and I tried prioritizing that.

My dad said ECook's team would be pretty good, cept Bailey Howell. He didn't like that pick for some reason. (????)

He said English/Issel would be nice this era. Havlicek is his best player, however he wouldn't be a starter on the all white team.

Then he gave me **** for takin Kenny Anderson. Pops trippin.......

anything less than 2,000 words per team will be a disappointment
