Hey guys. Just agreed to buy a 2012 Honda CBR 250r from a private seller here in NYC. Bike looks and runs great. And comes with all these extras, including exhaust. We agreed to a sell price of $2750.

What do you guys think? Did I pay too much? Is it worth it? Money hasn't been transferred yet.

What you buying a 250 for? Just to commute to work or something? It's like a scooter. If you're getting it as a learner bike, I would suggest staying away. People get tired of the 250s dumb quick and then it's hard to sell. No disrespect my G. J

I tried looking for a Kawasaki Ninja 300 or a Yamaha R3, but the price was just too high. People were asking for $3500+

I figured since I'm a new rider, I could use the 250r to learn and get comfortable and then upgrade to a 600.

I would have to agree a 250cc won't be much fun after you get the newness fades you will regret it. More importantly you will have wasted your money if you have patients save for the 600. My 2 cents

I learned on a 1000. Most of the people I ride with learned on a 600 or 1000. The few that had a 250 said it was a huge mistake. I would say save your money and get a 600 when you get the funds. Just take it easy and don't throttle hard. You'll be comfortable on a bike much quicker than you think.

Gotta go with them ^. I started off on a 750 with almost a year gone by after passing the MSF course and didn't touch a bike until I bought it. I can't imagine getting a 250, I probably would've traded it the same day I got it. Save up a little more.

i bought my 600 not knowing how to ride at all. had a month of crash course learning through youtube vids :lol and had a buddy of mine help me out also. that was probably 5 years ago. but i suggest not getting that 250 because like others said, you'll probably get bored quick.

Good deal.
Great bike. U got it for a great price.
Have fun with it.
250's are easy to sell so u should get most of ur money back when u sell.
:hat

Damn, you guys got me having second thoughts now :\\

I really want a 600, but they usually go for around $6-8k here in NYC for used models.

THIS...that is a really good price, usually you see all lot of the 250-300 bikes go close to sticker because of the quick turnover by folks who want to upgrade. i wouldn't worry too much about getting bored, other than at high speeds, you'll be quicker than most other vehicles on the road...ride it a ton and enjoy being on 2 wheels!

You'll be fine with the 250 for now. Will you get tired of it? Yes but like others have said, when it's time to upgrade you'll get back most if not all or more of your money. Teaching my girl currently on her 250 and the only thing I'll say is remain calm, and ride within your limits.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good bike lock? I've heard horror stories of people having their bike stolen. Would love to have some piece of mind.

Nice buy. I have the same bike and love it. Had it over a year and probably keep it for longer because I want to get into racing unless I can get an older 250rr imported at a good price. I paid around 2900 for mines last year with less than 1000 miles and it was stock so you got it for a good price. Resale won't be an issue since a lot of people start off on 250's. A lot of people are going to tell you to start on a bigger bike but in my opinion start on what you feel comfortable with.

By the way if you have any aftermarket parts you want to sell let me know.

Just got off the phone with Geico. Got the most basic coverage with only liability. Comes out to $40/month.

How long would I have to wait to get a great rate with full-coverage?
