I never really understood what this song meant.

Dudes Canadian, I dont understand alot of things they do

Well, I am American, but maybe because I am a woman I understand the lyrics.

The song is about a woman who has been through some painful situations in the past that are affecting her in her current life and making her not want to explore love. Glenn Lewis is telling her that those situations made her stronger and she should not allow her past experiences to make her push away a person who want to love her.
