My keyboard is acting up on my laptop

anyone know if I can take my hard drive off and take it to the repair center? Its a hardware problem.

If not is there any way to keep them out of my files?

copy everything over to an external hd (and if you can do a clean install, but if you can't) pray to god they don't find any remnants of your weird porn stash

what kind of laptop is it?  The keyboard is usually pretty easy to replace.  I ordered one from amazon for about $20, watched a video on youtube and did it myself a few months ago.

I was using that canned air and I think it shorted it out, the letters were all mixed up.

Ive honestly had good luck with Computer nerds off CL. Saves me cash and their work has been on point.

OP prepare to get charged out the anusch for a basic diagnostic.

The better bet would be to find someone elsewhere, CL like dude said.

Did not enjoy my experience with my geek squad warranty

They took 2 weeks to replace a faulty HD on my MBP...

I could have done that in 2 hours... (with OS Installation and Backup Data transfer)

Never again

Geek Squad is the biggest scam running. The charge out of the wazoo, the turnaround is awful and as some have stated they have no problem looking through your personal stuff.

A basic diagnostic will run you $80, if you want just the keyboard repaired be prepared to either dish out about $30 for a hardware install if you already have the spare keyboard or have them offer you what they call Tech Support which starts for $199 for a full year of tech support which includes free hardware installations, virus removals, etc. If they have to send it out, be prepared to be without it for a 2-4 weeks and pay more.

That said, you can probably find better prices at local computer repair shops. As to their reliability, I think it's hit or miss whearas Best Buy will try to butter you up if they mess up and leave it worse off... or they'll just tell you to go kick rocks.
