Turns out the new Mustang wasn't that great after all.

Ford could easily match Nissan on those numbers with a V6. Remember they produce a 365 hp TT. The point is that its a MUSCLE CAR. And most consumers anticipate a big nasty sounding V8.

Nissan is in a league of its own in terms of Japanese manufacturers still producing entry level sports cars but I dont think their intentions were to catch a mustang.

Ford from the beginning has focused on keeping the majority market share on pony car sales. So ya, they were slacking on base models for a bit in the earlier S197 platforms.

In conclusion, 370z = drivers car. Id drive the piss out of it. 2011- mustang = a pretty damn good car for the dollar. Id gladly take the base model and mod it to my liking.

Not much faster in the 0-60, and I want some weight numbers as well.

In either case, not interested in either car. They're both hogs that don't take well to mods.

and its a number I would expect from a car with 2 more cylinders, because even the LS1 made more than what the mustang made up until 2011

keep in mind that the vq37 is a V6 with a liter less, goes to show that not all sports cars need a V8. Imagine if nissan made one with a VH or VK engine

Attention NT'ers 0-60 means nothing in reality when youre talking about how well a car performs. Its an old benchmark that is used to wow people.

Aside from porsche, lotus, Z06/ZR1, whatever youre not going to find a mass produced car that is a lightweight performer in the same light. Safety regulations force cars to be heavier and bulkier these days.

I dont know about modding them though. I am certain before Ford switched to the 5.0 that the 4.6 V8 was easy to mod and responded well. A full exhaust change and CAI gave an easy 25-30 hp.

Well the he LS1 is a 5.7L motor compared to the 4.6L 2011 Mustang. Looks like a liter less to me.

Sports cars don't even "need" a 6-cylinder, though. Modern advancements and forced induction, especially, prove this. Last i checked, the Evos and STI's of the world seem to be doing just fine with motors the size of the bottle of soda we drink out of.

It doesn't matter, the Z is more expensive and they are in the same class. Why should we give it a pass for having a smaller engine?
