Italian Americans felt Jersey Shore was a embarrassment.
AIIGHTFresh Eggs![]()
The thing is in this situation is...there isnt enough responsibility put on the folks who choose to view a mass group of people that way.True.Italian Americans felt Jersey Shore was a embarrassment.
I guess at the end of the day people are more concerned about how others view them instead of trying to actually be responsible for enacting the changes in the first place.
The only people who I will allow to embarrass me will be people I'm close friends with, people i'm dating, or family.
Otherwise, try as you may but I refuse to acknowledge any association to someone who I bear no relation to on the grounds that you want to pin that on me.
White people are going to judge me regardless so why make it easier for them by accepting that claim?
I. Simply. Refuse.
most since ive ever seen putty make...gotta give cred where its due....true spit there...Miss me with the "you're still a ***** in a coupe" nonsense. If thats how people see me, then thats how people see me. That would have happened anyways. I'm trying to change the system...but I will never accept that claim on the basis of what makes you feel like its an appropriate thing to say.
I'd rather try to address why people think that way than trying to defend my single data point of someone who breaks the mold.
That whole "you're still a ***** in a coupe" attitude is self-defeatist. You're basically saying that people will judge you that way so you might as well embrace it.
...What? Why would I EVER do that? That doesn't change the fact that I have nothing in common with those gang-bangers. I want to make it possible for them to rise out of their situation and to do better for themselves but are you serious in saying "well thats how white people see you"
Who cares how white people see me?
I mean really.
Is that supposed to change how much I'm changing opinions and breaking stereotypes?
I'm just so perplexed at what you mean when you say these sorts of things.
.I want to try the Chicago deep dish pizza and see if it's the real deal.
) still holds the crown in that arena.
STOP BLAMING THE GOVERNMENT.
It's a tired, lazy and convenient argument for people who don't accept personal responsibility for themselves. The only thing holding these people back are the people themselves. This is all a result of horrible parents crapping out unwanted kids, and daddy leaving and not raising them. It'd be nice if a politician, or maybe even Al Sharpton, would bring up this point. But why bother, when you can just blame the government?
The only answer to ending all of this madness is education.
You made some excellent points, but education isn't the only answer. Parenting is almost as big of a factor in this as education, you can take a child from the hood and try to give him an education or vocational skills but the mentality that the child absorbs daily will more than likely dictate how that child acts. We need accountable parents teaching their children that education is how you're going to better your situation. I don't know how it will be done, but it starts at home period.
I'm actually back and forth about whether or not I want to become an educator in order to help our young men. From the experiences I've had working with them is an exasperating job but if we don't help our own then who will? I'm not trying to sit up in a nice neighborhood festering in smugness acting like I am not my people and that I don't owe them anything because "im different". I refuse.
True.

Trying to survive by killing other people? I know dudes who came from bad homes, had the option of settling for the street life or attempt to make a better life by attending school with no scholarship. Financial aid is there for that reason and it helps many people from backgrounds similar to those guys. How do you guys expect these dudes to go to school? Without a significant scholarship through academics or athletics they do NOT have the money to go to a college that would get them a job good enough to get them off the streets. I'm not saying i agree with them or what they do but they're just trying to survive man...
