Chicago Gangbangers Sit for an Interview. These Dudes are Crazy

Italian Americans felt Jersey Shore was a embarrassment.

Exactly. I work with an office full of white people and they HATE that Hillbilly Handfishin show, Honey Boo Boo, & any other redneck/white trash characters on TV. At the end of the day, EVERY race is embarrassed by a portion of people in it.

Hell black people in Africa despise these inner city gangbangers just as much as I do (went on a trip to South Africa in HS & they are some of the most humble, appreciative people that live with little to NOTHING. I had some basic *** Chuck Taylors on and they thought they were so cool, gave em away the day I flew back). They would LOVE the opportunity to live in America and make an honest living here! Idiots over here are shooting each other over street corners they don't own...meanwhile Africans are walking MILES barefoot just to get a clean handful of water or something to eat. These guys in the projects got government handouts in the form of food stamps & section 8 housing, but I'm being harsh? :lol AIIGHT

I'll take the "self hate" labels on an online forum with people that don't know me in real life because I've lived outside of America for over 6 years & witnessed first-hand other cultures AND our ancestors (in a sense) in the motherland make the most with what they have in WORSE conditions.

Miss me with the "you're still a ***** in a coupe" nonsense. If thats how people see me, then thats how people see me. That would have happened anyways. I'm trying to change the system...but I will never accept that claim on the basis of what makes you feel like its an appropriate thing to say.

I'd rather try to address why people think that way than trying to defend my single data point of someone who breaks the mold.

That whole "you're still a ***** in a coupe" attitude is self-defeatist. You're basically saying that people will judge you that way so you might as well embrace it.

...What? Why would I EVER do that? That doesn't change the fact that I have nothing in common with those gang-bangers. I want to make it possible for them to rise out of their situation and to do better for themselves but are you serious in saying "well thats how white people see you"

Who cares how white people see me?

I mean really.

Is that supposed to change how much I'm changing opinions and breaking stereotypes?

I'm just so perplexed at what you mean when you say these sorts of things.

True.

I guess at the end of the day people are more concerned about how others view them instead of trying to actually be responsible for enacting the changes in the first place.

The only people who I will allow to embarrass me will be people I'm close friends with, people i'm dating, or family.

Otherwise, try as you may but I refuse to acknowledge any association to someone who I bear no relation to on the grounds that you want to pin that on me.

White people are going to judge me regardless so why make it easier for them by accepting that claim?

I. Simply. Refuse.
The thing is in this situation is...there isnt enough responsibility put on the folks who choose to view a mass group of people that way.

If someone wants to view me as just another black hoodlum. That's on them, It's not my job to teach these folks that not all black people are like that..How about they teach themselves, open up their mind and treat me accordingly..not based on what they saw on TV.

Let's be real. The majority of these kids are simply a product of their environment, which breeds this type of behavior. In some communities completing high school, then college and great job is simply the norm/duh move. Sadly in other communities "gangbanging" is seen as being successful. We all know the real problems let's stop playing...

I honestly worry about my family in Chicago, they don't live in those areas but this always worries me. I wish good health and well being to all those innocent in Chicago.

^ Same here. My cousin moved there for a regional position with AT&T. She loves it, but she stays in the city at ALL TIMES. Wish nothing but peace & success to her; she worked hard to get to that point.

I remember in the New Era hat thread people were talking about you can't even wear hats in Chicago because so many are gang-affiliated. You shouldn't feel unsafe because you wear a certain hat :{.

My cousin and his family moved to Chicago a couple of years ago. They live in the good parts of the city though. I plan on visiting them eventually because i've heard how great of a city Chicago is. A lot of people I know are starting to take trips there. I want to try the Chicago deep dish pizza and see if it's the real deal.

Gino's deep dish pizza....BEST I had in the city & Harolds got the fried chicken on lock. Their hot dogs are too crazy for me with the celery salt, tomatoes, onions, relish, & peppers; I think NYC (Nathans :smokin ) still holds the crown in that arena.

Some of the opinions and comments that have been made in this thread are just as or more ignorant as what was said in the video by the Chicago gang members. The ignorant arguing with the ignorant over the conditions of some that clearly are the effect of such a broader complex matter that go beyond and much deeper than these Chicago gang members and most black or latino males living in urban cities across America today.
This is not a matter of history simply repeating itself, that would be to brazen on their part, but rather the old rules reformed and transformed to modern times. Thus giving birth to slavery by a new name, the pipeline to prison( education, schools),the prison industrial complex and on and on.Sadly these Chicago gang members and many young black males like them don't know or don't care to know that their fighting a battle, with an invisible enemy that will used them in the same manner they used their forefathers.
Granted this isn't everyones reality but for some it is this is why America-is truly the good, the bad and the ugly.

Some also act as if its 2012,Obama is in the white-house and every black american shouldn't have any obstacles in pursuing and obtaining the american dream. We have a clear lane to the American dream and all the devilment that awaits us on the other side of this promise land. Thats like the tortoise who beats the hare, with the hare having been through hell and back then afterwards the tortoise turning towards the hare and asking "why haven't you caught up yet?why haven't you beat me?"when in reality the tortoise has had the advantage of a headstart,a good one at that and the prosperous rewards to go along with that victory. The civil-rights movement wasn't that long ago,bruh...lol

This **** again.... I dont know what to say but we need a solution, not an "Im not them" or "im doing better than them" mentality. They also have to do something for themselves instead of finding the easy way out by killing the next man to get theirs

Damn. I'm all for Chicago getting some guys like Giuliani and Bloomberg to reform and clean up the streets along with a much more efficient police force. This mentality reminds me of the NYC in the 90s.

The only answer to ending all of this madness is education.

Putting a premium on kids learning, then being able to apply what they've learned in the real world, is what will elevate people from this current state of madness. They need to bring back vocational schools and training at the high school level, which leads people right into the workforce, then applying their trade. But in this instance, all that is going to happen is that these young men will wind up either dead or in prison, with maybe a few getting an education while inside the prison system, then realizing that this is the only thing that was needed all along, but after it's all too late.

If you noticed when these kids were speaking, you wouldn't ask them to quote Shakespeare off the top of their heads, nor whether or not Africa is either a country or continent. You can see that their self pride is gone, and the only confidence they do possess, is in the ignorance that they all share, and then take pride in.

These young men are a product of a country, whose values seem to have been flushed down the toilet. There once was a solid belief that the least of us could rise up from the dirt, then stake a claim for themselves in this nation. Somewhere along the way, that belief has been lost among those of us who should have the most pride, much more than anyone else in this country, especially after what our ancestors have built and struggled for in this country.

These kids, Black kids in particular, need to learn as soon as they are born, exactly what they are up against in this world. No more sweeping it under the rug, no more lies and misinformation. You are black and they want you to fail. They want you to die, or wind up in the prison systems, so that they will not have to deal with you. This has been proven since the inception of this country, and do not let them do this to you, do not play into their stereo typical imagery, and then how knowledge of self with education, will help them to win.

But all too often, especially these days, they are filled with nothing but silly music and video games, way before they can even walk and talk.

This crap isn't happening by accident.

STOP BLAMING THE GOVERNMENT.
It's a tired, lazy and convenient argument for people who don't accept personal responsibility for themselves. The only thing holding these people back are the people themselves. This is all a result of horrible parents crapping out unwanted kids, and daddy leaving and not raising them. It'd be nice if a politician, or maybe even Al Sharpton, would bring up this point. But why bother, when you can just blame the government?

Don't you know? It's ALWAYS someone else's fault in these situations on NT

The only answer to ending all of this madness is education.

You made some excellent points, but education isn't the only answer. Parenting is almost as big of a factor in this as education, you can take a child from the hood and try to give him an education or vocational skills but the mentality that the child absorbs daily will more than likely dictate how that child acts. We need accountable parents teaching their children that education is how you're going to better your situation. I don't know how it will be done, but it starts at home period.

I'm actually back and forth about whether or not I want to become an educator in order to help our young men. From the experiences I've had working with them is an exasperating job but if we don't help our own then who will? I'm not trying to sit up in a nice neighborhood festering in smugness acting like I am not my people and that I don't owe them anything because "im different". I refuse.

How do you guys expect these dudes to go to school? Without a significant scholarship through academics or athletics they do NOT have the money to go to a college that would get them a job good enough to get them off the streets. I'm not saying i agree with them or what they do but they're just trying to survive man...

You can type up the most grammatically correct responses you want. At the end of the day, you are still in fact that nebro in the coupe, Future.

You're black. In this country you're automatically judged, viewed, and treated by the way they view the majority of black men.

I'm Latino and I don't like being thrown into the "immigrant", "wife beater", "drunk" mix but when people ask what I am and I say, "mexican", the next statement is, "do you drink?". When I tell them where I live, "thats the ghetto". Mind you I stay in a historic district with white folks but to them, it's the "ghetto".

All you can do is laugh it off. You're gonna change maybe a few peoples minds about you but looking at the bigger picture, you driving a coupe, will be met with 1 of 3 remarks. 1. Are you an athlete? 2. Are you a rapper? or 3. Must be a drug dealer.

Sad, but true.

Trying to survive by killing other people? I know dudes who came from bad homes, had the option of settling for the street life or attempt to make a better life by attending school with no scholarship. Financial aid is there for that reason and it helps many people from backgrounds similar to those guys.

IMO you have to at least try. If you try, focus, put your mind into it and you'll succeed. You may not have a mansion with 22 *******, least you can survive and thrive. Maybe have a condo with 22 ******* :smokin

^^ EXACTLY. summed it up perfectly. Don't tell me the government doesn't care about black people when they've loaned MILLIONS of dollars to us to attend college. If you don't qualify for Financial Aid, join the military & they'll pay for your school while you're in OR after you get out. Tired of dudes making excuses for this crap in 2012
