Is Social Media Destroying Society? Former Facebook Exec Says 'Yes'

i guess we are supposed to be respectful of evil people now too?
even if they are a villain?
they can kidnap and terrorize a city but let spiderman make a joke about the evil guys costume and all of a sudden he's in the wrong

He wrote the Spiderman character, and while I don't agree if anyonve can say this it's him. It's his work. To be realistic, Peter Parker would probably co-sign what Dan is saying

Ia much bigger issue than just that. Yes, it does provide some value that people are able to see actual video footage of incidents involving police.

At the same time, the Internet and Social Media also allows the Blue Lives Matter types spread false or misleading information about shooting victims. So, that’s a drawback.

And I’m looking at the existence of Social Media as a whole; not just the role it plays in one particular issue. Like it being probably the biggest driver of sex trafficking/child pornography and what’s accelerating the radicalization of people who become domestic terrorists/school shooters. Just to give a couple examples.

So, on balance, when considering all issues and factors, I stand by my position that Social Media does more harm than good and that we’d untimely be better off without it.

And, in my opinion, nobody should just “take the word” of someone they don’t know who is providing information any form of media.

ARE you considering ALL issues and factors though?

There are dozens, AND DOZENS of things to consider that we haven't mentioned and/or haven't even thought about.

I get what you are saying though.

I’ve definitely put a lot of thought into this topic, but no, I can’t say I’ve definitely considered all relevant factors. It’s one of the more complex and multi-faceted issues we face currently in society, IMO.

At the end of the day though, social media isn’t actually going anywhere, so my opinion that we’d be better off without it doesn’t matter much.
